Lordy. I actually all ready covered your entire post, pre-emptively, before you could. In fact, I even indicated it was a probability, rather than an inevitability. I did this with one word that you're glazing over. I said it 'could' happen, but you're talking as though I said it 'would'.

If you're going to peddle one-upmanship at me, at least pay attention to what I said. :p

Yes but you said way too much, and Hop, like most of us, has the attention span of a fruit fly.

It's why the mods threw this ragtag crew here in Ten Fopward together.

And Ten Fopward above is a typo, but I like it, so I'm going to keep it.

Fair enough. >.> I'm just not fussy on being corrected when I haven't actually made an error, I don't learn anything that way. And I crave the learning. Mistakes are awesome.

i agree, but yet disagree at the same time, i think life with money is difficult, though the more money you have the cushy you are, while life without money (the need for money, like living in as a farmer in a mountain retreat or like a buddist monk) is the easyest life of all, no worrys, no stress, no need to complain when your internet goes down... etc etc etc

Given those options I prefer to be rich, powerful, and stressed then broke and happy. I may not be able to buy happiness, but I can darn well rent it.

We really are spoiled in the industrialized nations. When I was in the marines My unit spent most of it's time farmed out to the U.N. as part of a joint peacekeeping force.
I got to see some places in the world were a hot meal was worth more than a childs life. It's given me a very different world view.

Anyone living in one is extremely lucky to live in a 1st world nation.

Who would be the most miserable: A person who was born in and lives in poor, or very poor conditions, or someone who was born and raised in a rich family and lost everything, becoming another very poor person?

It is all relative. Very (very) rich people would pity most of us for the lives we lead and think we must be very miserable with the "little" we have.

    Think about that.

Not exactly, but the example works. Imagine how unhappy one of them would be if they had to take a bus for instance. Doesn't mean that i am miserable just because i do..

My point being that often they project how they would feel onto others, so since they would be miserable taking the bus you must be miserable taking the bus, so they feeling guilt ridden feel they must provide some assistance to you to ease their conscience, even if you are quite happy taking the bus.

And the bus is just an example, it could be almost anything, and if you look to some of the "charities" put money into you can really see that mentality at work.

Wow. If this is how I think it is, someone we probably know is acting like a cliche'd bitter ex-boyfriend. Judging by the punctuation I'd say they've been drinking. Judging by the attitude I'd say this person has caused a little drama here before. And we are now supposed to think this EJ person is the one with a problem?

Bigger question is, should we care about this message?

No. Especially when such shallow and pathetic intentions are behind it.

It doesn't really matter whether you're a poet, an artist, or a writer, your talent is ignored in favour of your wage. Sometimes, it can feel incredibly unfair, and this can drive people to almost suicidal levels of depression because they can't escape reality enough, they have such ideas in their heads and no one really cares just because they happen to be poor.

This is a very real problem.

I can see how it is a problem for those people but why is it a problem for me that the world is not giving them the recognition they think they deserve?

Of course the 'solution' invariably involves folks like me being forced by the state to pay regardless of what I really think. Funny how the caring sharing bleeding hearts are so quick to use the literal violence of the state to fund their notions of compassion towards others.
    - First-world countries tend to be very right-wing...

What exactly does "right wing" mean? When "national socialists" (TRIBBLE) who despise capitalism and want vast state control over everything... and classical liberals, who want state control over very little indeed, are both called "right wing" by various people, the term has become meaningless. It is a "scare phrase" devoid of any real information.
...and closed minded, so this means that considerations like being TRIBBLE are looked harshly upon. You'd think we'd be past TRIBBLE beating, but we aren't. Look at all the chubby, well off kids who post racist, homophobic TRIBBLE on the Internet, they'll grow up to be the sort of people who'd end up in a gang, a gang that would likely be looking for a lone abnormal person to beat upon.

So... imagine you are a homosexual and then tell me, where would you rather live:

First World country such as UK or USA or France or Germany or Japan...

    ...or...

Iran... Uganda... Malaysia... Burma... etc etc...
This is also a very real problem that can lead to nervous breakdowns and other mental conditions that can be genuinely debilitating, to the point where they can effect a person's ability to function, their memory, their emotional awareness and so many other things in a very negative way. People in third world countries tend to give more of a **** about the next person than we do.

Well I for one do NOT want my neighbour sticking their unsolicited snout into my business, thank you very much.... but I must say that having lived in Ghana, Nigeria and Indonesia part of my life, anyone who thinks people have more civil autonomy and an ability to express themselves in the so called Third World is not just wrong, they are delusional, as nothing could be further from the truth.

As an affluent straight white male I have it easy peasy on the social level just about everywhere but the notion that non-First World societies and (above all) states are generally more tolerant of differences is just plain wrong.

Oh, I didn't say yah "were" an ex boyfriend. I said yah're "acting" like a bitter ex-boyfriend. And whether I'm right, or whether I'm putting my foot in my mouth the fact that yah're posting a message like that speaks for itself.

If you live in a first-world country. <- Thats got to be the misnomer of the decade. There is no first world its the developed world and 3rd world which is another way of saying undeveloped. but thats neither here nor there really.

If people want to do as they wish, whether it be complain about vactions that some plebs ruin for them or whatever, I cant see how that should affect you. Just grin and bear it and pretend you didnt hear it, or just ignore it. Some people are negative while others are positive.

But I got to say that was a very strange post you made. Some people pay extraordinary prices to go places they may never go again..once in a lifetime they saved up for whatever and who or whatever manages to ruin the whole thing for them...i think if the shoe was on the other foot you'd be hopping made too.

live and let live and dont worry what other say or think..just walk away.

Let me be absolutely clear about this.

If you live in a first-world country, and I hear you complain about how difficult your constant vacation of a life is, you are now my enemy.

I've had enough of these people complaining about how they can't stand their lives or how hearing constant optimism sickens them, then watching them go back to their 40-hour work weeks that pay a decent wage, drink some free clean water, eat a hot meal, then complain some more. For frak's sake, people, you got it cushy.

    The worst part?

The people I've most recently heard complaining about this are my girlfriend and my ex-roommate.

And that makes me look like an idiot for associating with them.

    RP much? :D

As a point of order, 3rd world countries have been known as LEDCs (Lesser Economically Developed Countries) for quite some time, now. I'm not sure if it's a case of political correctness gone mad, or a way to make the so-called 1st World countries feel better about themselves.

Also...what the hell, Haz? Were you put on some Double Secret Probation that forces you to create serious, thought provoking threads? I mean, this is Ten Forward, and nobody's danced yet. Did I wake up to find myself in the Twilight Zone? Is Rod Serling going to jump out at me from behind a tree?
