has there been any discussion about the most critical ship component ; the Warp Core ? this should be an upgradable item . you should also be able to eject it .
I like this idea, but what would it do? +increase to power levels or something?
if we keep increasing power levels in various ways pretty soon people are going to be flying ships with 125/125/125/125 power levels etc.. if they're not already (+traits, efficient BO's, performance skills, efficient engines etc..)
The only time I ever saw a warp core eject was when it was necessary for the plot, every other emergency situation that required it the system always failed and they had to find another way of saving themselves.
I've also wondered where the warpcore was as well. It should probably have a base stat, I'd say perhaps regen, since people go loopy for EPS conduits, perhaps having different types of warpcores, some with high regen and some with high caps. Then extra stats to make the cores tailored for peopels needs. The warp speed buff with be a set figure to add to your speed, since it would have to be added to your speed after the players level has been taken into account. For example:
Warp Core Base Stat = 10% Regen
Warp Core Base Stat = +1 All Subsystems
Warp Speed Boost = +0.2
Warp Core Additional Stat = +5% Regen
Warp Core Additional Stat = +4 Weapons Subsystems
Warp Core Additional Stat = +4 Shield SubSystems
Warp Core Additional Stat = +4 Auxilary SubSystems
Warp Core Additional Stat = +4 Engine Subsystems
Warp Core Additional Stat = +1 All Subsystems
The Base stats could favour more regen or more power, then the additional stats, of which you obviously have more of with rare and very rare items, help make the core more suitable for what you want, for example, an escort may choose a warp core with good regen and + weapons.
And not very canon since Warp Core types are not limited on a ship class basis.
But i definatley think Warp Cores should be added alongside the engines.
Perhaps also redo full impulse so instead its "Warp", and have it 2-3x faster and no ability to turn.

Escorts get Dual Heavy Cannons.
Cruisers get special Warp Cores.
Science Ships get special Sensor Suites.
Of course, you could have some variety within each category.
Just a thought.
