It's that time of year again for us Aussies and New Zealanders.

In remembrance of our soldiers who've fought so we may enjoy things like STO many of us will be out today at ANZAC day services. ANZCOM will be putting on a small remembrance service of our own and anyone interested is invited to observe a moment of silence and maybe even a few words.

The service will be held at wolf 359 on Monday 26th. We chose Monday as it won't interfere on any of the Sunday services being held around the world.

Now, i suck at timezones so i hope this is right, the times for the AU/NZ region are as follows;
8:00PM - Aukland, Wellington
6:00PM - Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart
5:30PM - Adelaide, Darwin
4:00PM - Perth

It won't be anything big, more of an informal get together as it's rather short notice. BYO Drinks and Lest We Forget.

    Lest we forget.

    For those unfamiliar with this day, especially being an international community of gamers.

    Anzac Day is a war memorial day, first held in honour of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I, it now a rememberance day for all those who died and served in military and peace keeping operations. Its even a day to say thanks to those currently serving.

    P.S. Dont know if playing two-up on a Starfleet bridge is against regulations.

    ANZAC got the short end of the stick during the Gallipoli campaign. One of the most futile battles fought in history by some of the bravest soldiers to fight. /Salute

    They shall not grow old,
    As we who are left grow old.
    Age shall not weary them
    Nor the years condemn.
    At the going down of the sun
    And in the morning,
    We will remember them.

    Lest We Forget

    The whole thing was botched, it wasn't a battle. It was an 8 month slaughter.

    The Gallipolli was the "trial by fire" for our two young nations, and our soldiers acquitted themselves with courage and tenacity, fighting and holding on an impossible situation, and winning the respect those they fought against. The campaign was a pivotal moment in our history, and has stamped itself in our memories forever.

    ANZAC day is also becoming increasingly important for us, as all those who did survive Gallipoli are now gone, and less and less of our World War II veterans are surviving each year. We're increasingly seeing more Vietnam and now Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, as well as those young men and women who currently serve our countries on parade. Without these reminders, we will forget where our history comes from, and forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the way of life we have today.

    With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
    England mourns for her dead across the sea.
    Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of spirit,
    Fallen in the cause of the free.

    Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
    Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
    There is music in the midst of desolation
    And a glory that shines upon our tears.

    They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
    Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
    They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
    They fell with their faces to the foe.

    They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
    Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
    At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

    They mingle not with laughing comrades again;
    They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
    They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
    They sleep beyond England's foam.

    But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
    Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
    To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
    As the stars are known to the Night;

    As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
    Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
    As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
    To the end, to the end, they remain.

    I may be a Yank, but you can count me in for being there. I refuse to not honor you boys after all the help you gave us in WW2, the Pacific would have been next to impossible without your help.

    That had an amazing turnout and some well written words, glad I could attend. Had to snicker at the two guys using the science officer shield ability and the one Sovie that came roaring in throwing warp plasma. You know who you are.

    After the service, we decided to reconvene in the Lounge at Club 47 for drinks. As is standard with ANZAC bar meets, soon things were getting out of hand, and we decided to start pranking the transporter room. Obviously, security didn't like this, and soon the troops were on the move once more.

    Security eventually decided it wasn't worth the effort just for a few drunk Antipodian officers...

    It was an amazing showing, Both ANZCOM and myself personally would like to thank everyone who was there.

    Everyone remembering our fallen

    And for some reason probably related to the consumption of alcohol, everyone beating a red headed step child
