how many ships?

Hi guys

I have 4 ships now.. I am a Lt. Commander. I have the starting ship .. the original enterprise from Gamestop, a Engineering Vessel and a tactical Vessel. I went to buy a Science to round out my collection and I couldn't.
Everyone in game ssaid they had more ships. Is there a cap to how many ships we can own?

    You can have as many as you want....now, if you can learn how to use them...and have a little skill...we will see :)

    Lets see after the patch :D . Because I took all the skills to get all 3 types of ships already..

    You can have 8 ships at admiral and I believe 6 ships up to then(not sure exactly when it becomes 8). It could be that you're capped at 4 ships for now until you've made commander. I know that there definitely is a cap. Discharge your light cruiser(the sucky one, not the old constitution class) and you should be able to buy your other ship.
