STO BOT (I've seen it!)

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So like in any other Game STO has it's exploiters.
Some days ago I was in an open instance with an other guy and he was 100% behaving like a bot.
1) Not talking for 30 min (even when talked to for a dozen times)
2) never using full impulse while flying around the planet
3) never scanning for anomalies
4) used only disruptors as weapons which you don't have to time properly (like torpedos)
5) 3-4 lvl to high for the instance (so the bot wouldn't get hurt

I still remember his ingame name.
So what is the policy of STO? What to do?

just some more details:
1) he was in my Team. I told him many times how to use the full impulse via team channel. why?
2) because we were 2 guys in instance with one big planet in the middle and we had to fly more then 100 (million km or what is it?) and without full speed it takes several minutes.
the ships were many an powerfull so I couldn't go alone after them. I had to full impulse to the ships attack them and fly all the way back to this guy. he strted attacking them when they were near. he never made the "first contact"
3) ok anomalies are **** and this is irrelevant
4) it seemed he had no other weapon but dual disruptors
5) it was a patrol the system mission. we were 2 guys. he had no problems killing the ships and was very idle

so what would be evidence for a bot in your opponion?

Report it - if it is a bot they'll shut it down if it's a player, no harm done.

I don't know. I occasionally minimize and ignore chat at times, and I have on a number of occasions just lazily floated around using phasers only. Typically when I'm reading something else or chatting on Steam.

Absolutely nothing you have stated here could be construed as evidence of botting

i dont see any indication for botting here, might be just a guy who did some lazy mob grinding with the mind numbing chat and whispers turned off ... i know i did that ...

Seconded, I use the whitelist so if I don't know you and you aren't in my fleet I won't see a thing that you say to me.

might not be a bot heres the reasons

    1. no responce i dont like you
    2. no full impulse "i'm not in a rush"
    3. anomalies there TRIBBLE any way
    4. i like green death
    5. quit your moaning for god sakes

I dont think a bot would work well and II found this in a Bot forum that says everything:
well its a fail by yourself.....
first : u NEED to take at last a little part.. even if its flying arround...
2: a bot for a game where u have to grind .. like L2 or wow .. ok
    but here ??????????????????????????????????????
    rofl

There are plenty of legitimate reasons for the things you outlined.
    1) Some people don't like to talk. I use a custom chat window 90% of the time without zone chat, because it's full of TRIBBLE.
    2) This one is probably the most odd, but maybe they don't know of Full Impulse or just prefer to fly around slowly (AFK while flying to next zone?)
    3) I made it to Rear Admiral without scanning anomalies. After beta, I really didn't think they were worth the waste of inventory space.
    4) Using multiple beam arrays and broad-siding can be very effective. Not everyone has to use torpedoes.
    5) Could have over-levelled using Defense missions and come back to complete some old missions they missed.

    It's not always a bot.

Could have been me. When I'm in a scenario I never look at the chat unless I'm lost and trying ot figure out where teammates are. If there are plenty of enemies I never go to full impulse and I have a ship that is a complete Phaserboat cause I suck at lining up shots when the enemies shields are down. I do spam quantum mines though.

    1) Not talking for 30 min (even when talked to for a dozen times)
I don't answer Unknown players privet tells either, I find no intrest in it.
    2) never using full impulse while flying around the planet
full impulls is only usable when it's more than 20km to your next target.
    3) never scanning for anomalies
I only scan them if they are ontop of my anyway, don't bother with the broken so called crafting system.
    4) used only disruptors as weapons which you don't have to time properly (like torpedos)
What's wrong with that? IF i hae a torpedo launcher I just spam fire all weapons anyhow...
    5) 3-4 lvl to high for the instance (so the bot wouldn't get hurt
I farmed Starbase 24 long into Lt. Cdr. levels, whats so wrong with that?

Am I a BOT also? IF those are the criteria, I must be.
I better go take a physical exam....

But by all means go report, if it's not a BOT the GMs will figger it out, so no harm done :)

I went into SB24 last night with my Cmdr Cruiser for an initial test drive, seeing all those -18 Battleships blowing up after 10 seconds of 4 Mk IV phasers and a load of mines was a blast. Sad thing was I didn't get high score. There was a RA3 in an escort in there totally trashing the place.

Yeah, I use it for my shakedown cruise aswell. May head over there again tonight with my mk VIII phasers I just fitted to my galaxy. If I grind the cluster missions I may be able to get her all blues...

Maybe i am a bot as well i went back after getting to RA to do some missons that were either bugged like the ground fleet one (the ice station one) a lot later than i should have just to get it done and out of my mission log.

I also have chat off while im in a fleet action mainly because i use teamspeak and there are way way to many idiots in chat and spammers.

This does not make me a bot im just enjoying the game to it fullest and revisiting stuff that i couldnt get done before i got to RA.

Yeah maybe he had no torpedoes equipped and doesnt like talking to other people at all! Who knows!

You did the best thing though, getting some advice from the community. Best not to be over zealous with the report function.

It was not definition of botting - just some evidence.
I don't want to report anybody if I'm not realy sure.
Now I'm not sure but it felt very bot like to be with him in that system ...

That could have easily been me. I'm Lt. Cmdr 10 and still have a few LC3 and LC4 patrol quests left to do, because I've been doing the main storyline and Sensor Contacts and leveled up that way.

And I use disruptors because I like the dual types of damage they do to shields and hulls.

I have my torpedoes set to auto-fire so that I don't have to worry about timing them, I just worry about ripping down shields as much as possible and then trigger a High Yield once the shields are down so that the next torp out is a dualie.

Sometimes I chat, but sometimes I ignore the chat screen because I might be watching TV in between waypoints or so.

I never wanted to be a Bot. :(

I AM NOT AN AUTOMATON!!!! I AM A... HUMAN... BEING....

That does'nt mean he is a bot. I sometimes just like to play alone so I am not too chatty sometimes. Maybe he doesn't know where the full impulse button is. For the first few days I ran around thinking that moving the slider to the top equaled max power. Who cares about anomalies? When I want anomalies I go to Delta Volanis. I usually ignore them in missions. My current weapon loadout is all phasers. I have been playing around with different loadouts to see what is more effective for the way I play. There was a period of time when I had all disruptors, fore and aft. Might try torpedoes next. I don't know how anyone can get into an instance that favors them. I assume it's all handled by the servers. During beta I grinded the Starfleet actions thing and now I have been leveling off the PvP stuff. In other words, maybe I am a bot!

The chat window is quite often filled with "where is Sulu?" like comments and people saying how bad the game is and how wonderfull WOW is. To be honest with the text flying by so quickly i quite often miss people talking to me even in my friends list and have to scroll back up for ages to read (meaning i either float very slowly forward or come to a complete stop). I rarely scan anything anymore either so could be me too.

I figure if you think someone might be a bot report them, if they are human players they will respond to admin guys, if not then they will be kicked.
