Fixed the steam issue by copying the old Beta client LIVE folder into the steam one ( works if you didnt use steam for the beta client , dunno what happens if you did )

Then you have to download the 10GB client and every patch released since OB started....
And yelling at the download to hurry the f*ck up so you can go kill Klingons does not make it go faster. I've personally tested this, so I know...

Steam works perfectly. I downloaded the beta client from steam when OB started. Didn't have to re-download anything, steam patched up today with the little 59mb patch and works fine.

It was like that for me too. Then Steam crashed for no aparent reason and suddenly it had decided it needed to re-download the client.
Which it still calls Star Trek Online - Beta...

Thankfully Steam did manage to average out at 5.9MB/sec so it didn't take too long. But still it was a rather pointless download of 7200 something MB.

    Well, sorry guys.

But you could just avoid the hassle by running STO directly. STO doesn't require steam to run. You can launch it without even firing up steam to begin with. The exe is in the steam/common/star trek online directory.

100kb/s -.- thank you throttled down load speeds.

Nothing Cryptic can do now will prevent me from wasting half of my head start DOWNLOADING. So yeah, the two things I actually wanted from the preorder I won't get until the game goes live anyway.

The ability to play and the ability to use a joined trill.

26% and I've been downloading since 11am PST.

That sucks. I made the mistake after patching up the OB client one time, then verifying the game files. Man. Steam re-downloaded almost the whole game, then I had to patch again.

That is a big reason I have not used steam... ever. I downloaded the client straight and only had to download a 59mb patch which took like 30 sec.
