Attitudes like this are why there are so many afkers exploiting the game and you can't even buy zen because the market is so oversaturated with dilithium
I'm guessing you also are a afk exploiter and don't want your cheat toy nerfed
Actually, no. I've never flown the Jellyfish, though I did earn it the year it was available. And I've never AFKed an event or TFO ever. I actually enjoy engaging with the content. But thanks for assuming. 😊

No, to nerfing this console. I have a Cnidarian Defender but I don't use it. There are better things that can be focused on in the game. Their fun is not wrong and most of them are probably not AFK as some claim.
The jellies have gone through an interesting development lately.
Currently i see more than a few Jellies jump around the map as to where they are required.
I've also seen Jellies employ various team support from healing to buffing, crowd control and healing other team mates.
If the defender console is in need of adjustment then make suggestions not build upon a false premise (it being solely an afk-boat).
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Yes, the Subspace Fracture Tunneling Field console from the Vovin Obelisk Carrier allows the Jelly to reposition itself to enemies or allies within 20km without having to take the bubble down.
It may sound easy to play jelly lazy boat, but it takes considerable skill to position correctly.
Exactly. Positioning is key for effective Jellyfish Mode use.
And I can't think of any map where one Jellyfish just dominates the entire map. Among the current event TFOs...
Synth Wave: Not ideal for Jellyfish Mode whatsoever as you need to stay mobile to rescue crews and man ships.
Swarm: Can cover maybe one lane during the evac stage if positioned properly.
Jupiter: Can cover Jupiter Station just fine if positioned on the station, but can't reach the holoemitters.
Borg Disconnected: Can probably park where it can free disconnected ships, but will start to struggle once the larger ships start coming out, but sure as hell cannot dominate the map
Also you can still team buff in Jellyfish Mode as well. Its not the "I win" button everyone is making it out to be.
Position is absolutely key. I have it kitted out on both PC and Xbox, and yes, it's a great fortress, BUT you can absolutely AFK these TFO's with it, especially on Console with it's auto-executes, and on PC with 'auto-fire on being attacked'. It is the best 'dumb' 'I win' ship out there with the Ba'ul ship, on a lot of static TFO's. Even on Console activation alone, it's damage is enough to avoid being flagged for an AFK penalty.
Case in point is where I've gone into Jupiter and a player with very obvious clone accounts and ALL had Jellyfish and the same toon-names came in with 4 accounts to set-up to AFK it, but left almost immediately. It literally is the most abused AFK ship out there.
This is not a case of 'your fun is wrong, so nerf it', it is a case of many, many people using it to AFK farm TFO's. I see it on both PC and Xbox. I'm also not saying people are seeing this with 'rose-tinted' glasses on either, but, and I say this with absolute respect for you and Badmoon, that pointing out a clear and obvious flaw in the Jellyfish console is a legitimate concern. Like I said in my earlier post, they should make consoles for the Typhon and Olympus 'unlimited duration'....just to be fair

You should try it. It's actually a wicked ship for a Sci-build....and I mean WICKED

Perhaps they could make a minor change to the jelly field in order to reduce the tempation to use it to AFK.. keep the field diameter and strength the same but also make it STORE the same energy it gave off during it's duration of use. Then if the field isn't manually turned off prior to expiring make it release all that energy all at once in a GIGANTIC EXPLOSION that destroys the jelly ship and everything around it. This could help ensure jelly users are actually at the keyboard and paying attention to things.
Reducing it's active time to 60 seconds with a three minute cooldown might be the better idea
that would be... a nerf.
It would balance it out with other consoles

Heresy!
Sometimes a nerf is needed, it's stupidly overpowered

Except that the Jellyfish form is its NATURAL form? Why would it basically be a suicide button if its taking its natural form?
This entire thread is silly.
I hate how your playing this GAME. You must stop. Take a hike with that.
If your ok with this....
Then your ok with DPS shamming.
Then your ok with yelling at players for flying slow ships.
Then your ok with yelling at players using squishy little ships that end up dying and needing to respawn.
Then your ok with yelling at players for using visually annoying skills and consoles you dislike.
Then you are ok with yelling at a carrier pilot for creating too much spam.
Your not entitled to be upset about how anyone else plays the game. The jelly is what it is. Personally I'm fine with them adding interesting ships and items to the game that create varied play styles.
Can you AFK in a Jelly... sort of not really. I guess you can in low level content... but you can essentially AFK in many different builds in normal mode content. I mean is a jelly any different from a fat boat cruiser parking and using FAW? Or a sci ship dropping a gravity well every 45s and essentially AFKing as well? Leave the Jelly alone... at this point if someone wants to AFK the event ques for marks or something its better to just take a carrier and not deal with people reporting you or crying on the forums.
Except they're not playing. They hit a button once and then do nothing else.
Why is it so hard for people to grasp that this shouldn't be possible/allowed?
This isn't about playstyle, it's about a lack of playing and therefore it has nothing to do with squishy ships, slow ships, DPS or any of the other totally irrelevant stuff that has nothing to do with the topic.
Gravity wells still have to be activated manually and I've yet to see anyone only using that, while automatically getting healed, while doing damage in a wide area all around him.
Can we stop with the false equivalencies? If there is one that isn't false and there are other thing that allow players to go AFK, I'm happy to start a thread about them too for you.
Cause, and don't be shocked please, the forum is here to discuss stuff, even cry about things. Don't like it? Not my problem, no one forced you to read it.

Sounds like a bug or a case of oversight. Immobile things should be immobile.

Well, lots of things work in a certain way, with things nevertheless ending badly if it works too well or is put through too much pressure. Think nuclear power reactors for example.
It's all about controlling the process and preventing overloads. I'm also thinking of that one Enterprise episode where they overloaded the weapons against what would become the Elachi. It was done intentionally and useful in that case, but it still caused damage to the ship too.

If the jelly blows up, it would be a sign that it's getting stressed by overuse and is unhappy. Cnidaria can't talk because they haven't got mouths and tongues. Hopefully players would be kind to their jellies in order to continue the symbiosis without incident.
The only way an expiration timer would work with a bastion style tank (that tank type is supposed to have a continuous and sizable aura, I have already explained why in a previous comment), would be if they eliminated the cooldown entirely and just made it a matter of having to press the button again to restart. In fact, it could do that when an attack wave ends and require a manual restart (without cooldown) when the next wave comes in instead of being automatic, though it is not the way that kind of unit is supposed to work.
It might help to think of it more like one of the flying buildings the Terrans use in Starcraft, since the jelly has similar drawbacks when the field is down; they are capable of movement but are too slow, clumsy, and weak defensively to operate like a cruiser effectively (they are more like a barge filled with rockets like they used for beach assaults in WWII than any realworld ship).
They are very niche units and make exceptionally poor cruisers at best. In fact, if you want to complain about someone using a Cnidarian Defender you should complain about people who fly them in nothing but saucer mode since in that mode they are about 99% certain to be dragging the team effectiveness down. And yes, it is possible to get them to be sort of science-ship-like when not staked down if you can get all of the synergies of best-in-slot consoles (and usually universal consoles in the ENG slots) lined up just right, but that kind of thing is usually quite expensive and in this case the results are usually not particularly great, not to mention still feeling like running around wearing lead boots and a straightjacket while on the move.
Didn't fleetcaptain already create this same thread last year and whine about it then too? Just give it a break dude, maybe you'd have more time to game if you didn't live on these forums moaning about everything. If someone is going to AFK in an event TFO, it doesn't matter if you nerf the jellyfish into uselessness, they will just sit there regardless in another ship. Probably a carrier with the pets doing the work. So then you'll want to nerf all carrier pets and so on no doubt.
Seriously, take a break from this game or something if one ship upsets you so much.

But he can create another thread if he wants too. As long as everyone stays respectful discussion is always a good thing. However, I have a feeling that soon this thread will be closed down for the same reason the other was.
I can understand somebody being concerned when two jelly bubbles cover the vast majority of the map when playing the Swarm. There are still players around that like to pass the time by operating their ships. When that small mercy is removed I think it's only natural to be left unimpressed with the situation.
Side note: What's more annoying? A Jellyfish going afk while it's still providing healing of denying access to the enemy or some dude with a squishy glass cannon high dps going kaboom and remains in the respawn mode during the remainder of the TFO?
I don’t really have a problem with anyone using the console. I tend to look at it as them “softening up” the enemies in the area so I can make quick kills and go on to the next wave of enemies. Some folks with the jellyfish console can really turn the tide in some of the more difficult tfo’s.
I have my ufo ship as well but I don’t use the console because it’s not really my fighting style. I like to jump in the thick of it with torps and phasers blasting away, plus I like the look of the ufo better.
The only thing I really am not crazy about and this isn’t the fault of the player is that pink field bubble the jellyfish console makes. It makes it difficult at times for me to see where I am going or what to fire at. Otherwise for me it’s not a deal breaker.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

That thread is technically a necro now so if anyone posted on it would of be closed for necro ing. The correct procedure has been followed. I personally don't see it as whining. Valid points are being made. With this community everyone has a equal say.
I don't own one as wasn't back in game in time to earn it, but personally, I appreciate the Jelly's uptime and range of its bubble in defensive TFOs where it shines. In decent hands it tells me where I don't necessarily need to be and where I should concentrate my efforts.

No lets not nerf it because its not that overpowered at all. It takes a lot of work to make a good Jellyfish and its not cheap either. It requires some expensive consoles ect.... Don't be stupid ask for one thing to be nerfed while at the same time a 1000 other items are OP as well.
C-Store Inc. is still looking for active members on the fed side. If you don't have a fleet feel free to contact me in game @stegi.
