When the upcoming carrier was revealed many probably immediately noticed that the trait that comes of the Senneca/Hiawatha is a copy of an already existing trait. Namely
Relaunch And Repair from the support carriers:
When you launch carrier pets:
- To self: -5% Recharge Time on Captain abilities
- 25% Health Regeneration to self and Carrier Pets
For comparison the new trait
Supplementary Coordination NetworkWhen you launch carrier pets:
- To self: -5% Recharge Time on Captain abilities and Command Specialist Bridge Officer Abilities
This is hopefully an oversight. The Senneca/Hiawatha trait definitely needs a rework before launch. Carrier captains are rare and usually have all the different carriers already, meaning that they will have essentially the same trait twice. In addition it is to mention that cooldown abilities are plenty in the game and in this particular case you only benefit from it on command carriers.
Overall I would advise to scratch the trait entirely and instead give it a dedicated healing trait for teammates and pets within 10km. Maybe make it an active trait even. The ship on which this one is based was a medical frigate in the show after all, and such a supporting trait would also synergize with the console that comes with the ship.
Comments
Given how few carrier traits there are and how few good ones we have, I am not sure we need a 3rd carrier trait doing the same thing.
In the real world, medical ships were usually made from old crossing liners, hybrid passagenger/cargo ships, or sometimes large long-range ferries (like channel ferries) pressed into service. The Hyawatha class could easily have been of hybrid passenger/cargo type, possibly with a heavier focus on transporting shuttles (which colony worlds would probably need a lot of and probably could not manufacture very easily) than general cargo which would also be a candidate for quick conversion into an escort carrier (in the conventional sense of the term, not a carrier built on an 'escort' size-class frame).
I was always more of a story person than a systems one so coming up with a trait itself is a problem, but in general a good trait for an auxiliary carrier like that which would fit the theme would be some kind of anti-piracy surprise that is also useful for conventional engagements, or possibly something to encourage fighting from a distance (probably some good fighter buff, and/or long range accuracy buff) to compensate for the soft hull mentioned in DSC.
