Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96. Between that and the recent PM change the UK should be in for some interesting times in the next few months

So folks know: I'm going to leave this thread up for the time being, but the rule against discussing real-world politics remains in effect.

Condolences to the royal family from their cousins across the pond.

Hated to hear this. She was a classy lady from everything I knew of her. Rest peacefully. God Save The Queen

It doesn't happen often that I follow an ongoing event.
Today was an exception, when I suddenly got a NYT alert that there were concerns about her health and the family was rushing to Scotland. I refreshed Twitter and local (Dutch) news sources countless times, for hours after that.

Saw many pictures of her life, which was impressive. She was already grey before I was born; 'her' first PM was Churchill, born over a century ago. She was older than Elvis and Marilyn Monroe and other long-gone icons... And despite that, still working what must be a very demanding job.

Let's just say that she deserves her rest, in peace.
