I am want to start playing again after sometime but my ships and equipment are not good enough

heavyarms69heavyarms69 Member Posts: 6 Arc User
So, I have not been playing for a period of time. I want to get back into playing the game but looking at my ships and equipment and I am thinking they are not good enough anymore. I watched some you tube videos to see how to build my ships and I do not have the quality of equipment to build any of the ships. All I have some green, blue and purple equipment nothing else. So I am kind of at a stand still I am not sure what to do. Could use little help where to get started again, I started playing this game at the begin when it was pay to play. Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

    Starter tips.

Rank XII is fine for normal and even advanced if your build is sound. Rarity doesn't matter THAT much.

Pick a weapon type (cannons/beams) and stick with it.

Pick an energy type, stick with it.

Then you want to get energy type boosting consoles.

Shields don't matter all that much in space, you want a little extra resistance but not much then you want hull regen.

Those things will make a huge difference alone.

I've no idea how you've specced your toon, so can't help there.

Thanks for replying, does it have to be XII rank weapons? I might have 4 mill total with all toons. Do you recommand a certain ship? I have two level 60 toons, Tac and Eng to use.

Oh no, you might be a few hours too late for this:

We all have/had the ability to claim a free T6 Ship Token from the Zen Store. Go check that out right away, in case it's still there. It will let you claim a single, account-wide-use ship from the standard zen store (not Mudd's Market).

Should be under PROMOTIONS tab of Zen store, if still available. But, I think that giveaway might have expired appr 4 hours ago.

If its there, what ship do you recommend that I should I buy?

    claim it first!

Come back later for the advice, you have all the time in the world for that.
Not like you need to use it when you claim it, you can hold it for as long as you want before deciding.

Others will have their own advice, consider all suggestions, but realize we all have our own preferences. My prize may not be your prize.

Cruisers: Arbiter or Gagarin. Both have 5/3 weapon setups. Arbiter is a bit older, still loved, great trait once you master to 5th level. Gagarin is newer, trait not as "wow"-worthy to me, but popular. Either could be a solid choice. Runner-up third choice Science Star Cruiser, uses Sensor Analysis normally only found on science ships. Trait is OK if you throw a lot of projectiles or exotic damage, otherwise maybe not terribly useful

Escorts: Science Pilot Escort or Reliant. SPE has nice science abilities for an escort. Reliant is just way more fun than it should be. SPE has interesting trait that buffs damage depending on your flight speed. Reliant trait does nothing for me. Runner-up third choice Titan Science Destroyer. I didn't love it, but I have been reading others that do. Again has that Sensor Analysis ability, rare on escorts. Trait can be fun, but the cooldown (like many) stinks and makes it not useable too often.

Science: Terran Trailblazer Science Warship or Grissolm. Both newer ships, TTSW just came out this month, Grissolm was released late 2021. TTSW has a tactical slant, Grissolm has interesting configurations. Or course, with science ships you need to point your deflector to the enemy to use science skills. Not everyone likes that. Runner-up third choice Temporal Science Vessel (Nautilus). I have not used mine in a while, but I used to smack enemies silly with its science skills and a heavy triple set of forward torps. It was fun.

Side note, TTWS was one of four ships that were just released, and can be bought as single ships. Assuming the coupon will work for them, all were pleasant surprises to me vs similar ships I already owned. The Terran "Defiant" has a built-in battle cloak, no console needed! About #$%$^& time.

One thing I suggest is pick a damage type (phaser/disruptor/whatever). Once you do, there are missions that will give you free ship weapons and consoles for that damage type. Personally I dig phaser damage because there are several missions that gives you gear for that type of damage. The missions are easy, and even if you blow up a few times, you will get through them eventually. Get mission sets of gear first before chasing anything else because they are easy and free.

Doesn't HAVE to be but there's more than a few story missions you can do that should land you some sets to work with.

All but one of my toons use story sets and do just fine. You honestly don't need super duper gear, just very good synergy.

You'll notice the cap is now 65 too, at 61 you'll get a token for a free T5 (Upgradable but module needed). All T6 ships are scalable too, so you can use them on a fresh toon as well.

Cross faction flying is now a thing as well btw, either get a KDF (proper KDF, not Dom or Romulan) to 65 or you can buy it on the zen store for a premium.

Keep the advice coming, I have a few Aegis sets, maybe 1 or 2 Romulan sets, 1 Borg set, and was working on geting Bajoran set. I was trying like hell to get a MACO set with no success, not even one piece. Not sure what is all out there now, I would like to collect them all. What is the benefit of Cross Faction Flying?

Reputation daily boxes are a decent source of mark XII gear, and you'll want to level up reputations anyway for the dil and access to reputation gear.

TFOs reward some gear, and some of the patrols like Ninth Rule give much more. It's mostly white and green quality but fine for placeholders.

If you have R&D at level 15 you can craft Mark II gear at VR quality then level it up using Phoenix upgrades.

You'll be fine using your Aegis, Romulan, or Borg set for the time being. The story line provides numerous different consoles and gear for your ship. Hopefully you'll choose Phaser or Disruptor for energy types as they seem to be the most supported.

Possible ship choices could be an Arbiter Battlecruiser for a nice all around and flexible beam or cannon battlecruiser. It's starship mastery trait Emergency Weapon Cycle is a bit of a building block for most directed energy builds.

My favorite ship (by a country mile) is the Gagarin Miracle Worker Battlecruiser with the Arbiter's trait. It's amazing whether beam or cannon.

If you like to use cannons there's currently a KDF recruitment event. Start a recruit and get a ship with Withering Barrage for free.

^ These 2-3 ships with their respective starship mastery traits will have you covered for directed energy weapons.

Everything else will come in time.

What is now referred to as 'reputation gear' (similar to the ancient Borg stuff but better) will become available as you complete reputations. Think of reps as doing the old Borg queues for gear only now there are 13 different types of enemies with their respective unique marks. As an added plus there's no random chance involved like there was in the old Borg STF's. You get the marks, add some dilithium, then get the gear whether it be space sets, consoles, or weapons.

if you want a decent little sci ship, the T6Nova is a treat. not QUITE as good as the "suck zone" intrepid, but it's fun to fly
