longer missions...

hi guys.

so i joined STO in 2014, have logged many long hours, and have even taken long breaks, be ith burn out, or issues with my gameplay on my pc, needs looked at badly. any how i love the game, more space side of things, ground really doesnt do it for me. anyways. the 1 thing i think this game could do with is longer missions. not talking about story episodes, but TFO's/STF's, patrols cause like some can be done in like just 2mins i have no idea what the longest lasting one is, patrols are fast too. think would be cool if cud have missions lasting like 10min+ be more fun. Also would be great if they could implement solo options for the TFO's/STF's cause as we all know some missions you cud be queing for a long time. what they could do, is have the game put in 4 AI team members, so we can all run what ever mission we like without having to wait long time for some to start, or as i have done just given up and done something else, be a great idea if the devs had a look into this, ive seen it done on other games so maybe they could try implement something like that?

battlezones. i love em, well only 2 ive managed to complete undine (please devs update to lvl 65 minimum) and badlands. i think if somehow it could progessively get harder the longer your in the "mission" like say you destroy all 3 base (bosses) then the final bit, would then unlock say a new level, so how it is at lvl 60, you complete the last bit and all objectives are complete, the area goes to like level 80 or something just to make it more challenging, and give greater rewards for the time you have put in.

Gonkra system, tzenkethi BZ, please fix it in all my time i have never completed it, just left as got fed up with it.

gamma quad BZ is just strange dont fully get it.. dont know what to say about that one.

Anyways just some thoughts, still love the game i did take a really long break and when im not at work (65hrs+ a week) i try to get on now.

It used to be that way, but folk complained and the longer TFO got butchered; you only need to see the few complaints about things being on a timegate to see what I mean (If the Enterprise is taking 5 minutes to get here....it's taking 5 minutes folks.....sheeesh!)
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I'm with you on Gamma quadrant. It's never anything but sinister whatever when I go.

    That's extremely difficult to solo.

Join Random TFO helped with queue times but of course it's random, on console specific TFOs can take up to an hour......or just never pop at all. Temporal TFOs can be real tough to get into, as most of them require at least one brain cell to complete.

I am going to say no to longer missions or longer TFOs or longer patrols. The reason is that it is clear that Cryptic's idea of making things longer is by adding more wave after wave after wave of the same boring combat. No thank you.

I like the idea of TFOs that take longer, but I have no faith in Cryptic's mission designers.

I somewhat agree, for "longer" TFOs they often seem to go with fixed timers for each phase and force you to fight infinity number of reinforcements until the timer expires.

I much prefer a TFO where there is a maximum number of enemies and if you clear them faster then you finish faster. Otherwise it seems pointless to just "fight for x minutes" since the next phase begins after x minutes regardless of whether you play well or are AFK.

I would be ok with longer patrols as these are great for quick levelling a new ship. I would not however agree to longer TFOs as this just means increased mob waves or more checkpoints a pug team has to complete before moving to the next part of the mission.

If they can increase mission/TFO/patrol length by introducing some kind of meaningful mechanic, I would support it, but Cryptic's track record on this is not good either.

My question to the OP is what difficulty are you playing? if you are in normal bump up to advanced or elite. on elite unless you are with some min maxers, the TFOs will take a tad bit longer than "2 minutes"

If you want longer task forces, there is a bunch you can que up - but be prepared for rtfo players cursing at the "guy who qued up this":
    -azure nebula rescue
    -gravity kills
    -dranuur gauntlet
    -peril over pahvo
    -storming the spire
-... you know what? the task force operations, in general, take to long as it is - i would kindly suggest we don't make them any more TIME CONSUMING or make any new ones take forever to complete, thank you.

All of those are the most common ones on Xbox when I RTFO, I don't mind as anything is better than Borg whatever.

Random group activities is not the place for 'longer' content. Story missions exist to fill that role.

Why not? Not everyone wants to be wam bam thank you mam in a few minutes...not everyone spends 5 minutes to get a 30 minute cooldown. The problem is the devs need to design something besides artificial timers
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

I think a pretty good measure of it is that the TFOs that see the most player are the shorter easier ones and most the rarely touched ones are the longer missions.

Most STO's players don't want to spend 15+ minutes in a single TFO with a random group
