Captain Shon? Change my mind....

vedauwoovedauwoo Member Posts: 215 Arc User
As with alot of us, I have many toons and play through the episodes again and again as I fill out their accolades and mission bonus equipment/loot, etc.....

Anyway....

I propose that Captain Shon of the Enterprise is one of the more badass of all the Star Trek Captains out there.....I'd love to see him get a show, perhaps with S'tass and the Romulans from the Dyson sphere stories.....

So, yeah....based on his performances in the STO mission stories, he's gottsa be in the top 3 or 4 of my all time favorite star trek captains...

And he's Andorian! Without those obnoxious cheek-rocks..... *wink*

Maybe on Lower Decks? Is the STO voice actor a SAG member?

I think we would all love for the Enterprise-F to show up someplace like Lower Decks or Prodigy with Dave Rivas voicing Shon.

Nah. I MUCH prefer Tiaru Jarok get a show. Shon lost me with that silly quote/line delivery he gave at the end of the Iconian war. That war charge quote "they're is not to do or die" or something. Too cringe. To cringe for a show in fact.

That 'silly quote' was verse II from "Charge of the Light Brigade", a narrative poem, depicting the valour of bravely carrying out orders, regardless of a hopeless outcome, by Alfred Tennyson. He wrote/published six weeks after the Battle of Balaclava, on which the charge was based.
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death, Rode the six hundred.

The next verse (III) of the the same poem was, of course, quoted by Miles O'Brien and Julian Bashir in 'Sacrifice of Angels':
    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell Rode the six hundred
    .

In context I tend to think it was one of (if not the) most poignant moments STO ever presented us with:

Agreed. And one of the most authentically "Trek" moments. Star Trek is noted for the over the top speechifying of the classics. That was the moment more than anything that Shon felt like the Captain of the Enterprise.

He's got nothing on Kirk or Picard. Honestly I find him a colorless sort, and his poetry recitation flat.

Personally, I think he's actually kind of a blue-ish color

    Completely agreed.

I think they've all had to be, which is why Kurland (who is voiced by Borticus, one of the devs) no longer has any lines other than a brief "Kurland here" during the battle with the Tzenkethi at DS9.

Nah, the suicide run by the Klingon I forget his name into the doomsday was actually way better. I should clarify, it's not the quote, it's Shon's delivery of it that was cringe. It sounded so much like he was reading off a script instead of saying in a manner for the scene.

I've generally liked Shon's Voice Actors work in game. I love how he first comes off as a kind of annoying Jock type when you first meet him (technically in the lost Dominion story arc) and he kind of grows on you over time. There are a few other STO unique characters that really do pull off getting you to feel for them or about them just as much as you do the on screen actors. Mara Junot is great as Tiaru Jarok, but I remain amazed that she also does J'ula. And the guy who does Kagran is good fun. A Klingon you want to follow.

Kagran is great! For the Federation, I like VanZyl a lot. Shon isn't bad, he's is generally a good character, but to have a show revolve around him gives me a "wasted opportunity" feel. The Federation has a lot of weak male characters I feel.

It took a while but I do like Shon , especially hearing some of his back story to understand why he can seem a little flat at times when it comes to his personality.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

Also keep in mind, the STO vets knew him at the end of “Diplomatic Orders” He originally commanded the Kirk that rescued you.

Not every voice actor is a SAG member and IIRC Shon's voice actor was hired before STO went to SAG only.

I think outside of Shon, my favorite unique STO character is Admiral Quinn. The VO manages to inject just a hint of world weary sarcasm into his dry dialog. You just feel that Quinn as your superior officer, is looking at your reports with a certain air of detached disbelief. "So your report says that as part of your investigation you and your crew went to Nimbus III and killed every single Patron of the bar Shangdu, and their Pets... again...? And I see you've submitted your receipts for your bar tab... did you pay it before or after killing the bartender?"
