Why is the new ship a flying toilet seat?

I'm just curious...

It's an futuristic piece of artwork that has been brought to life for our enjoyment. It's ring shaped.

I do not think that there is a reason. Possibly because we got TRIBBLE shaped ships for the past years, no we will get "future" shaped ships (Appalachia).
GIVE US THE TYPHOON! Enough said...

It goes very well with the Courage, which is bascially a toilet without the seat ;)

Ori Mothership! Maybe it'll come with its very own Ori Prior to operate it

It is very clearly a bottle opener - toilet seats are egg-shaped, and this ship is perfectly spherical.

    Ask CBS, not Cryptic.

Now all we need is someone to try and dock the two ingame - preferably with the the Blue Danube playing in the background...

I like the design. In my opinion, of the 32nd century ships we will soon have in the game, only the Kirk looks better. The Janeway looks okay too, but it's not a very original design if you know what the Intrepid looks like.

It is because the ships are bought off-the-shelf from third party modelers when the in-house designers apparently could not come up with anything "futuristic".

The Saturn probably IS an Ori ship from some proposed but never went anywhere Stargate project, or maybe the modeler was a fan of that show and wanted to make an Ori ship variant just to do one and then trotted it out with whatever else they had when DSC came around looking for ships.

And no, that is not sarcasm, it is just the way a lot of things happen in Hollywood (believe it or not, a number of alien ships in TNG used a physical model made for the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century series with various modifications), though I do fault DSC for going way past easter eggs and nods and using that kind of lazy easy-button approach so much that it, (along with their internal timeline of styles confusion) turns a Trek show into bland generic mush aesthetically.

Oh, didn't you know? ALL of the 32nd Century ships are required to have a...questionable theme. We've got the toilet seat, the toilet itself, the jockstrap/speculum, the tooth...basically anything the designer could think of whilst he was in the bathroom having a Tribble.

I'm guessing the next releases are going to the toilet brush, bog roll, possibly a tampon, I'm sure a toothbrush, probably a string of dental floss and of course, the "U.S.S. Hair From The Drain"...

Well they needed some ship to park below the Saturn to complete the full space toilet cosplay. ;)

That will be the butt-shaped ship introduced in the next season ;)

More seriously, I'm happy that some well-off Discovery fans will be spending an average of $250 per 32c ship to get the full set. That keeps the servers running and new story episodes and TFOs being released for me to play in my TOS and TNG/DS9/VOY styled ships.

They enjoy the ships, I enjoy the game, everyone wins. And that's the tooth!

The Angelou-class would make a good lid. ;p

Q was visiting a captain and, unfortunately for Star Fleet, that captain was on the porcelain throne. So, in true Q fashion he made ALL the ships of that class into flying toilet seats...to "honor" the unnamed captain.

We have a phaser shaped ship to add to the list of low effort designs.
In the effort to be different, they ended up looking like common everyday things.

Why? I don't know, but I've got some guesses: They weren't allowed to finish their work so 'we' got the very rough sketches that clearly lack artistic detail and actual artwork. They (CBS, not Cryptic) were mocking us by a joke of selling space trash, toilets etc. like some pretend 'dark abstract art' that's really a disguise or cover story. I can't stand Discovery so it seems fitting this level of stuff makes it into their design models.

My only hope is Cryptic doesn't request its really incredible artists to make 5 variations of these same designs, with 10 others based off of it.

Thankfully that seems unlikely since these are lockbox / promo ships not C-Store, so there is no need to come up with Romulan and KDF versions of the Tooth or the Flying Potty.

I'll just keep saving my pennies for when I can fly the U.S.S. Sir Mix-A-Lot when we get the Space Butt next year. Hopefully with a detached "nacelle" flying behind it ;)

(With apologies to anyone who actually enjoys 32c designs. I'm happy for you, keep on liking what I don't like.)

    I'll give Cryptic this:
Unlike the original designs that were made for the series and given no development or lore, and made in those shape just because, the devs try to give a few justifications:
-the Saturn is this shape so it can isolate anomalies better and test new warp fields
-the Mars' nacelles move differently when using pilot maneuvers and its console
-the Courage's shape is because someone tried to have a ship that works differently depending on its angle

The future must be obsessed with potties

I am not sure if its a problem of the future, and more a problem of the present that anything vaguely ring-shaped leads to comparison to toilet seats.

I wonder if that's the origin for the word "edgelord" - people sitting on the edge of their toilet seat or porcellain throne.

With all of this "matter" nonsense and given that V'Ger was created a thousand years earlier...wouldn't it make more sense for humans to be flying around in clouds, as opposed to sanitary ware?

We are talking a THOUSAND years after Kirk and we're still in ships, even though they've got silly floaty bits?

There's no Stargate-esque assentation, no Q-like development into an omnipotent being, no Changeling evolution, we're not augmented like the Borg...we're biologically identical, but wearing TRIBBLE uniforms and flying around in toilets.

Does anyone else remember when Star Trek made you wish you were living in their future?

A thousand years isn't that much for overall technology in long-running sci-fi series, and they tend to suffer from technological stalling, with Star Wars being one of the worst offenders, even with the new canon.

I realised my earlier comment was in fact out of date in terms of planetary naming conventions.

What I should have said was at least they didn't call it the Urectum class
