Elite BOFFs

So we have yet another event awarding a ground Kit module. Currently my bag slots and bank slots are full of them. This made me think about an option to buy for Dil token to promote BOFFs to Elite status. This would grant the BOFF the option to equip and use one or more ground Kit Modules. Players could theme the away team or just Min/max with duplicate abilities. However this would no imbalance anything like TFOs as the BOFFs are no used. This would also act as storage, allowing you to use BOFFs to clear some space in your inventory.

Interesting idea, Elite Boffs sound really fun & useful.
I am fan of the Galaxy class and Sovereign class. I like Federation cruisers.

Hoping for a Yesterday's Enterprise Bundle

My idea for the bundle

I like the idea, but I think many of us would want an "Boff-X Upgrade Token" so we can add this to a boff that fits our theme crew.

None of my crews want to associate with a plant monster thing on an away team :)

Make the token for dilithium... a very good ammount, and we have a very good dilithium sink

So are you saying we'd be able to swap boff's regular skills for our choice of kits? Or would this be in addition to the skills they currently have (which are class kits)?

A good idea, considering half of my 160+ slots inventory is cluttered with Kit Modules...

It's funny the OP mentions the idea of upgrading BOFFs to elite rarity. Elisa Flores technically is an elite BOFF, but not displayed as such. She has an extra trait that's superior, more than a very rare BOFF can get.

I'd definitely be all for the ability to upgrade BOFFs, myself. Especially lower rarities to very rare if you have one you want to keep and not have to spend millions (or hundreds of millions) to re-buy from the exchange at a higher rarity.

K'Gan and Evelyn Savea also have 3 superiors.

Most kits (the class-specific ones at least) are already available as BOFF skills.

Yes, I suggested this before during the discussion of 'captain upgrades' -- which Cryptic recently implemented. We need some sort of enhancement for Boffs because they are falling behind characters and even equipment. The ability to use ONE kit module in their profession, or a universal, would be a good thing to add. Kits are more powerful than standard Boff abilities. An extra trait or two would be nice, too. Certainly it will not be possible to allow Boffs to use all of the traits that players can use, but there must be a few we could add without breaking game mechanics. An additional rank that enhances their health would be good, too. They've been stuck at Commander since the game launched while players have advanced several times. When can we have Captain Boffs?

The crafted ones are, but not season events, 14-day events, reputation, fleet or lock box.

I can see for example wanting to give a Breen boff a bunch of cold kits.

Actually a number of the season event ones players can use are also available to the BOFFs I got a few BOFFs with seasonal abilities.

D'oh, you're right there are training manuals for many of those.

Funny you say that. I do actually have a captain BOFF on my first ever char when the game launched. I used to spam promote the characters as I levelled and for some reason one and only one of my Boffs promoted past commander to Captain. No extra abilities were gained and I was unable to replicate it. Checked the char a couple of months ago and she still shows as captain :)

I would say leave the skills alone and just add a universal kit slot just like the ship gained an extra trait slot. Adding a Trait slot to the BOFFS would be a great addition as well imho.

I'd prefer an option to simply discard these things and be able to easily reclaim them (where that's not possible yet).

I hardly use my Boffs on the ground. So personally I don't see the benefit here.

Have you ever played Neverwinter? The companions in that game can be augmented in many ways, and even be "promoted" to elite with extra skills and such. We need this to come over to STO!

That would be a great idea, but why stop there?
From a roleplay point of view I would actually like to see the main roles that you see in the show assigned to BOFFS not just showing up as "Department Heads" in the DOFF system.
Again as a good DIL sink, you could add additional options into the Career Options drop down for the BOFFs. The new title could replace COMMANDER in the description. The Department Heads Tab in the DOFF section can then be removed / changed.
Each main promotion can only be selected for one BOFF. This will remain greyed out until the character is dismissed. Elite BOFF option can be applied to any BOFF you own.

    Promote to Captain
    Cost xxxxxx Dilithium
BOFF Gains 2 Universal Ground Kit Module slots
Gains Additional Trait "Space Warfare Specialist" (Or just Offer a free Trait Slot for currently owned traits.)

    Promote to Science Officer
    Cost xxxxxx Dilithium
BOFF Gains 1 Universal Ground Kit Module and 1 Science Kit Module slot
Gains Additional Trait "Astrophysicist" (Or just Offer a free Trait Slot for currently owned traits.)

    Promote to Chief Engineer
    Cost xxxxxx Dilithium
BOFF Gains 1 Universal Ground Kit Module and 1 Engineering Kit Module slot
Gains Additional Trait "Superior Efficiency" (Or just Offer a free Trait Slot for currently owned traits.)

    Promote to ChIef Medical Officer
    Cost xxxxxx Dilithium
BOFF Gains 1 Universal Ground Kit Module and 1 Science Kit Module slot
Gains Additional Trait "Survivor Science" (Change the name but same skillset) (Or just Offer a free Trait Slot for currently owned traits.)

    Promote to Security Chief
    Cost xxxxxx Dilithium
BOFF Gains 1 Universal Ground Kit Module and 1 Tactical Kit Module slot
    Gains Additional Trait "Survivor Tactical"

    Promote to Elite Bridge Officer
Cost is Dilithium but slightly lower
BOFF gains 1 Universal Ground Kit module slot.
