The WORST thing about not being able to skip through the cut scenes...

kayajaykayajay Member Posts: 1,990 Arc User
...you can be killed.

I'm just levelling a toon and in a decade, I've never had to sit through all of the cut scenes before. To be honest, I've been getting up and topping my glass up whilst they go on, but the worst thing I've found is that when they end, you find that you've been killed! Previously when you could skip, it gave you chance to fire back, run away, repair your hull whatever, but now you have to wait it out and then find that you've got to Respawn.

I'll happily take any and all bugs and errors back if it means not having to sit through the cut scenes, which if you're a long-time player like myself, you have done 70,000 times and actually be able to surive.

If you have to have the cut scenes, then at least not allow the bad guys to keep shooting at you, when you're not able to do A THING to help yourself.

You can skip through cut scenes. Press and hold the escape key. An icon appears in top right of screen. This has been discussed and the player base has been informed of this on various other threads.

Yes, you can still skip them.

Still, it's a pretty useless change. I've never accidentally hit the Esc button. My fingers aren't even close to it when playing.

I've never been killed during a cutscene honestly. Does seem pretty odd that it would do that.

Anyways... as eazzie has said, just hold down ESC and you should see a progress ring to skip. Note that not all cutscenes can be skipped, but I believe the majority can.

You're not supposed to be able to take damage during a cutscene - the game's supposed to make your character immune to damage...and also possibly disable enemy AI, though this one I'm not sure about.

You can absolutely be attacked during cutscenes. More then once, I have had to ESC out of a cut scene because I was being attacked. It’s always been in space and it depends on where on the map your ship was when the cutscene began. I have never died this way, but I can see how it’s possible.

I am not sure about the taking damage part (I was never killed during a cutscene) but the section in Wastlands were you end up in that arena inside the club shows that the NPCs do often start fighting right away, not waiting for the cutscene to end (usually when a turret or something tags them into action).

I don't remember where or when it was, but I've also died during a cutscene.

    Might be years ago though.

The Herald Sphere TFO has that 'exit the portal, during a cut scene, straight into a fleet of Iconian ships' that ... is not cool.

I died on that one last week while trying to level a fresh Escort Captain. The cutscene ended and I was already dead.

Ok... I'll go ahead and tag @darkbladejk to take over this as I'm starting to feel like this isn't supposed to be a thing.

If yall can get me some logs, and videos to show this occurring I'll gladly pass it up to the team. Some of the skippable cutscenes I have taken damage in, whether it's intentional or not is another story. The logs and video together will allow us to see what's going on hopefully

Do you know how to skip cutscenes on console (PS4/5)? No ESC obviously and I’ve tried pressing and or holding every button? 🙂

Wow, I will have to see if I can remember and try and re-create the problem. Honestly, it's been a long time.. like years. This isn't a new thing.

From what I understand, cut scenes are completely unskippable on console. :disappointed:

Unfortunately my knowledge only extends to PC. Although ship building is probably about the same.

I am not sure what thread to contribute as there seems to be so many, but thought I would add my thoughts here... The holding of esc to skip a cutscene when that was introduced was a total inconvenience as like others have said, who accidently hits the escape button... those who do, are doing it with intent, as we are old time players who have seen the cutscenes many times...

my bugbear now however, is that gradually more and more skippable cutscenes have now been changed to be unskippable (even holding the esc key doesn't work as the icon is the same as that of the usual unskippable scenes). Almost every patch update adds new scenes into this unskippable list... it is now getting to the point where absolutely every cutscene will be mandatory to watch on every occasion... and this is not due to PC load times causing other bugs as these cutscenes are in areas where that would never be an issue... this is entirely to prolong a player in a mission, for whatever reason...

Any cutscenes that require a slight delay to allow for spawning of the next stage, fine, i can accept that but again, allow for the cutscene to be skipped if it is exceptionally long (which some are) but Cryptic need to stop making every scene mandatory...

It just reminds me of the Solanae storyarc where almost every mission is a solo player mission... this is an MMO... I don't want to play all these missions solo... and again in most of these there was no logical reason why they needed to be solo only... (the ones where you took on another character persona i got, as you couldn't have 2+ players playing the same person..) but otherwise it made no sense...

just like it makes no sense now making these cutscenes mandatory...

Please, reduce and turn back this function to only the essentials being unskippable!

It's not that people were accidentally hitting the key - it's that the cutscenes are used for loading the scene and setting up triggers, and some cutscenes being skipped instantly broke missions...of course, instead of just fixing those issues, Cryptic just decided to annoy the entire playerbase instead.

I have died in cutscenes before. Well, one particular cutscene. Before the devs changed it, if you weren't exact with your timing it was entirely possible to get stuck in a pool of giant worm phlegm during the arena section of Colosseum. All I could do was helplessly watch as the turrets shot at the Aehallh while my health ticked down.

That was years ago though. What mildly annoys me is cueing up a fistfull of abilities, about to unleash and ... CUTSCENE! End of scene and everything's on CD with a bevy of new bads to shoot at.

One recent mission springs to mind is the cutscene that forces the player into the middle of a hall on qonos surrounded by hostile all of whom attack the player en masse, If you haven't played that mission before you're screwed.

I've noticed that PC got the option to skip cutscenes such as the one in the middle of pahvo or the starbase going pop in the disco patrol BUT consoles, who should have had it patched by now, still have to wait for it to go through. Then again it took a week for the klink recruits batleth to get a closer on PC and console version still has you flailing wildly into the air so skippable cutscenes are going to be a total pipedream.

There is no escape key on consoles, so what do we do to avoid sitting through repetitive scenes?

They may have said they fixed the recruit bat'leth on PC but it still does not have a reliably working closer so more often than not the opponent steps back and you are left doing the same useless semaphore as before. And an even worse fail is that the devs failed to put the combat moves from J'Ula's claw-pistols into Aakar's pistols which makes the melee function of that set nearly useless (and Aakar's bat'leth is just as bad as the recruit one, maybe worse).

Here's what's going to bake your noodle, later on: if you're going thru the trouble of building in a key to skip the cutscenes, doesn't that already tell you ppl don't want it?

In a decade of playing STO, skipping a cut-scene has NEVER made the episode go wonky. Never not once.
