contents of tv shows, in STO

sennahcheribsennahcherib Member Posts: 2,823 Arc User
All content (ships, costumes, weapons etc) from future Star Trek TV shows will always be added to the game through using the gamble boxes and the lobi store?
And can we expect ST: Picard playable content added to the game?

I did not have in mind the content already added from DSC S1 and S2, which are already old seasons.
I modified my previous post to remove "current".

So if they wait Picard S2 or S3; do we have clues for the future of STO? I mean new playable content.

Well... we already have some content from Picard s1. And for the most part all of Trek is open for the Devs to play with so...
    *shakes magic 8-Ball*
    It is highly likely.

ok thx. i don't care if some stuff are put in the boxes, I just want missions to play and I'm curious to see what will be the future of STO. Because excepted for ST: Picard, all the other tv shows don't share the sto timeline.
  • rattler2rattler2 Member Posts: 57,973 Community Moderator
Well technically Picard doesn't quite fit the STO timeline either, being in 2399. And there is currently no indication of the rising tensions between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. When was STO's Fed-Klingon war started again?

oh! well, in this case wait and see.
1 thing that I don't understand maybe you have an explanation: Cryptic could earn money by selling more stuff from the tv shows for example Book's costume, Earth defense force uniform, Saru's civilian clothes or more 32c weapons for example etc; so why they don't sell them, in the c-store? (yes, I'm more interested by the costumes/uniforms than by the ships :p )

it's a little frustrating to see the few items from the series being sold only through the boxes or the dil store I read that cbs would be against these sells but why, more happy players = more potential customers/viewers for their shows. Lots of viewers come to play STO after seeing the shows, but they can't found completely what they saw (except Klingon dsc).

I'm trying to figure out how STO works to avoid negative feelings against this games, again.

for the war, I don't know, i'm not at all a Star Trek specialist or a trekkie :p

Tensions started rising in 2401, after the Federation Council condemned the Klingon Empire's annexation of the Gorn Hegemony (they claimed to be unconvinced by evidence of Undine infiltration, which might be because they weren't given anything beyond Ja'rod's word as a warrior), and hostilities began, as I recall, in 2405, four years before the game starts.

While there has never been a 100% consistent pattern Cryptic uses for zen store releases, there has been noticeable trends throughout the game's lifetime.

The big one being that Zen store items are near exclusively ships, costumes, and weapons, that would be generally available to Federation, Klingon Defense Force, and Romulan Republic, captains, in their normal line of duty in canon.

Things from civilian groups(like Risian ships), alternate timelines/realities(Kelvin, Mirror items), things from enemy factions(Undine, Voth, Vaadwuar, etc.) and things from the far future(ENT-J and 32nd century), are near exclusively found as non Zen store rewards. Be it event rewards, lockbox, lobi, R&D, etc.

We know CBS has some mandate on something(certain costumes not being available to certain factions, no normally available T6 Connie, no playable androids, etc.), and this may fall under that.

well, I don't believe anymore in the cbs excuse since the section badge at 50 lobis, sic! how a single badge can annoy cbs??
if the cbs excuse is real, then economicaly, it is totally pathetic, and if it is cryptic's decision, ditto.
But, after all they do want they want. Like I changed my way of playing (I closed my wallet for good, for example). Now,their decisions are not really important for me.
All I want/need, it is an explanation. Ignorance leads always to resentment, and misunderstanding.

    do you have evidences?

And no it is not economically intelligent, because they loose a lot of potential customers who like the shows and don't want to spend their time in the game to grind for dil, ec, lobi etc, and don't even try.
if you want to create a 32c character, well good luck. everything is overpriced, and the uniform is in the lobi store. same thing if you want to create a dsc section 31 character (ships in the gamble boxes and the stupid badge in the lobi store, lol).
that means than the full content of discovery is not canon?

Anyway discussing it will not change anything because the devs and cbs do not care about the opinion of the players. I now have a way of enjoying this game, which will never be to their advantage again.

-CBS said no to being able to jump over the bar from the Promenade into Quark's Bar.

I'm having a hard time believing that one. I think it's a programming challenge that was not worth the time/effort

The CBS Veto stuff is now, and always has been complete and utter B.S.

There is pretty much only one person here that believes everything Cryptic has said about CBS Vetos, some of it you would have to be braindead to believe. CBS has long been the 'boogey man' that Cryptic can blame for not doing something.

Do they have input on their IP? Absolutely, and they have probably even said no to a few things along the way. Are they micromanaging to the point where they really veto'ed being able to jump over a bar? Of course not, that's absurd.

Believe what you wish, that's what I am doing, I can't prove anything any more then anyone else. There is only one person I know of that just blindly believes everything Cryptic says.. judge for yourself.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Evdience of what? That CBS said no to the things I listed? Yes. the weekly livestreams, and other interviews, where these things have been brought up, many of them repeatedly, and the answer from Cryptic has always been "CBS said no to this"
And no it is not economically intelligent, because they loose a lot of potential customers who like the shows and don't want to spend their time in the game to grind for dil, ec, lobi etc, and don't even try.

The number of customers doesn't matter. Its how much you make off of the ones you have. Look at overly priced designer jeans, or purses. Most people don't buy them, but the companies making them are super rich from the money they get from the people who do.
that means than the full content of discovery is not canon?
Where did you get anything regarding canon from? No one mentioned anything about canon.

at your last question, you did: "It also makes sense economically. All of the stuff your characters would have access to, in canon"

it is a nonsense. some stuff are canon and can be sold in the c-store and some other stuff from the same tv shows are not canon, and must be sold in the gamble boxes?

And you blindly believe what cryptic says? seriously?
in my opnion, the cbs plot is bs.

end of the discussion for me; cryptic will never give answers and i'm sick of all these guesswork.

Guys... lets NOT start bashing each other and Cryptic over what CBS said or didn't say. Fact of the matter is that CBS does have final say in what can and can't be in an MMO using their IP. CBS is not "the boogyman", they are the IP holders. And if CBS tells Cryptic to jump when it comes to STO, Cryptic's only answer can be "how high". Weither you believe Cryptic or not in regards to CBS decrees is your business. Don't go attacking each other over it because you don't agree.

Not really. We have no idea where Ja'rod and his ship are right now; for all we know, the Klingon Empire is amassing its forces to attack Gornar as Jean-Luc is working to save the androids. Remember that tensions won't start to rise until 2401, and open conflict won't happen until 2405.

Here's the thing... those were added in after the fact, and other than Seven showing up and mentioning the Fenris Rangers, we have no actual story stuff from Picard. Don't forget that the story of Star Trek Online was started long before Picard was even a thing. So its entirely possible that CBS will go off in their own direction and not have the events of STO considered at all. We may not see a Fed-Klingon War starting up in 2401, in which case STO would cease to be Prime Universe and be a branched off reality off the Prime.

The Devs have said that they will try to keep things in line with the establishing canon, but if it diverges too far from STO to reconcile, they'll just just call it an alternate reality because at that point you'd might as well have to make a new game to line up with canon as established by CBS. We already have one divergent event. Data visiting Sela in prison to talk about Tasha Yar, which was established before Picard confirmed Data is absolutely 100% dead long before that event in... I wanna say 2411. (Data having survived via memory engrams, after blowing up in 2378 aboard the Scimitar, before asking Picard to pull them and thus ending his existence.)

So... by the time Data visited Sela... in canon Data had been dead for 12 years.

I still struggle with traumatised Romulans shutting down the Cube. I would have much rather gone into detail about that. I still say that I would have rather Picard being ENTIRELY about the Borg, instead of the androids.

Soji be the Queen, a part of Daystrom dedicated to the Borg, with Locutus' bits and pieces being there to traumatize Picard when he visits, the Queen's spine on display...Seven, not being mentioned initially, having been there, etc. I could go into chapter and verse about my ideas for how that could have gone.

Soji being the Borg Queen never made sense, however with Picard we can see Romulans being villains again, NU Trek seems to really hate this race and their territory just keeps shrinking so much for their glorious star empire or free state as we call it now.

It really would have. Starfleet/Daystrom would have had the Queen's remains from the Enterprise to study. Despite her flesh having been washed away, there still would have been DNA from her organic components.

You could then have had a cloning process, Battlestar Galactica Human Cylon-esque bit, where they're trying to learn and even interfere with the Collective through this being, who could very well possess all their knowledge. Seven had a lot and she was never the Queen. So, instead of a human android, Soji (although I personally preferred the name Dahj as a name) could have been an organic Borg.

The problem with that is the Borg are by definition cyborgs, not Soong type androids/gynoids like Soji and Dahj and the others like them.

As for the names, I have to agree. I am used to Soji being a male name (from watching anime) so it did not sound right for her and Dahj sounds better for a female character, though they still would need two different names because they were different people (like Data and Lore were different though they too used the same chassis model).

I don't think there would be DNA from the Borg Queen, as the plasma coolant destroyed anything organic it touched when Data smashed the pipe and flooded Engineering. We literally saw the Queen's organic bits vaporize. The only thing left was the tech bits, and probably some of Picard's DNA from when he snapped her spine.

Romulans were always the villains. The only time they weren't was the Dominion War... which they had to be tricked into joining on the Federation's side because they were going to ally with the Dominion originally.

Also, the Romulan Free State in Picard is much less villainous then the RSE from earlier shows. The RSE would have NEVER allowed a multi racial science organization to run the Artifact project. And the way Hugh talks to the Tal Shiar agents on the Artifact, while suffering no consequences for it, show that the Romulan Free State has the Tal Shiar under much tighter control.

It was just the Zhat Vash who were evil.

They were more like background villains and not as big of a threat like the Klingons or the Dominion or the Borg.
