Why do the Risa Races have to be so gross?

kayajaykayajay Member Posts: 1,990 Arc User
I'd love to enter the surf competition, I'd love to try the Biatholon, but they're never on when I'm on and even when I do, I'm CRUCIFIED by people who remind of those at Ker'rat. You can't play the game, without being opposite people who are maxed-out with boards and raisers...so where's the enjoyment?

I'd love it to be queued, able to be played when you can and also, not to be trounced...surely you've got to understand how miserable-making that is.

The Risa races and other events cycle every few minutes. If you hover over the Summer Event box it will expand to show the next hours activities. There are 2 Powerboard Races and 1 Biathalon every hour.

As for being able to compete? Have you ever opened Pheonix Boxes? The ones you get for Dil or as free giveaways on the Phoenix Weekends like we just had? While the most cost effective reward from them is the upgrade tokens, it's worth it to spend 1 Very Rare token to get the mini hoverboard (that looks like the Pink and Green Back to the Future board). It's the equivalent of an "Elite" board, so speed 78, turn 150. It's not quite as fast as the "Impulsive" boards with are speed 88, turn 80. But it turns and maneuvers better, so you can easily place top 3 in the powerboard race. As for a floater? Get a rental floater and do the "Flying High" event with it. Use those 50 lolnuts to buy the first tier floater. You can rerun Flying High every 15 minutes for 50 lolnuts. On each character. You can also pass lolnuts between characters in your account bank if you have one. It's actually not that hard to hit 1000 lolnuts in 1 evening. In a given hour you can run Flying high 3-4x at 50 each. Dance Off gives 100 with the possibility of 1 or even 2 ChuChu Dance extra 100 point bonuses. Hor'ghan Hunt gives 75 and takes 3 minutes with even a slow floater, once you learn a route. (The Horgun's are always in almost the same places.)

The races will always give 15 lolnuts and 2 monkey tags just for completion within the time frame. And even with the slower floater it's worth doing to learn the course for Biathalon.

I'm not saying an upper tier floater should be your first 1000 lolnut purchase. Honestly that should be the <Risian Kit> the old one, not the new Volcanic one, which is junk. The Risian Kit can be upgraded to Mk XV and re-engineered to have the highest Kit Performance in the game. But consider putting a faster flyer high on your purchase list as it makes grinding out Risian Tasks much faster and easier. And you do want to be running at least one Risian event daily to get the free ship.

Very small point, horgahn hunt actually is much better as each one you find is 2 to 5 lohls, the 75 is just a bonus for completion!

Please tell me we are not talking about "participation trophies" here... If you don't have a board or a floater that are not as good as other players, then keep running the mini events for the Lohlunat favors and save up to buy yourself one...

With the bare minimum green floaters equipped, I can run 4 Horgahn hunts in a row during the 14 minutes by completing and toonswapping (I prep my toons ahead of time at the start of what I think is the shortest path to 10). That nets me 400 (g/t) Lohlunats each time I run it. If I then take those same 4 toons and run one "Flying High" each thereafter, I now have 600 favors... That is per-hour... If you time your playing time correctly, then you can do this every day... In ONE WEEK, each of your four toons can then have the best boards and best floaters...

The game is meant to be played, not given...

I never try to 'win' either of the competitive races. I usually shoot for the 'Finish' flag, which nets 2 monkey tags and some favors. As others have noted, if you're looking for favors there are other, better, ways to get them.

Most notably is now the Dancing. There's chance of netting at least 100 extra favors if the chu-chu dance shows up. (Can't miss it either) If it shows multiple times, that's an extra 100 favors each time. I've had it show twice, others have had it show 3 times. Another thing, it seems to only show for me if the male Caller is calling the dances and the female caller calls Chu-Chu. But I can't be certain this is actually so.
Now a LTS and loving it.

No offense meant by this, but so what? They are races, competitive races, races you have to race other players at. They're not going to stop and let you by because you're not enjoying losing to them. If you can't find the enjoyment in even trying to beat them, why are you even trying? Unfortunately, this is one of those 'git gud' situations. You can't have everything handed to you.

with 50 people per instance you're not going to win without the best board and good computer. Luckily for Risa the 2 races are nearly constant. It's the opposite for Q, where you only get one race in basically 2 hours. But with Q you can get 1st or 2nd most of the time.

If running many characters you really need to win many races or go insane. But with just 1 or 2 characters Risa is ok with just finishing.

While the Races are not the best reward return, I do find them as one of the most fun things to do in game. And I generally don't pay any attention to the other racers. I'm just trying to get a good smooth perfect run in each. Doing that I find I place more often than not. I kind of wish the races had a visible timer so you could work on beating your own best times.

If you can stomach investing 5-6k favors first, the most productive is Horga'hn Hunt. ~100 per impulsive floater, and there's enough time to run 6 captains through each time, for a total of ~600 in 15 minutes. Even with several chu-chu calls, the Dance Off can't compete. And most of the time, you're lucky if you get more than one chu-chu call (or none at all, in my case).

After that, well, now you're into a tie between Flying High and Dance Off -- In the same 15m time span, Dance Off with 2 chu-chu calls is worth about the same as running multiple captains through Flying High (each run takes about ~2.5 minutes). Of course, this still involves having multiple captains with impulsive floaters. But if you're going to do that for Horga'hn Hunting anyway, you might as well put them to good use afterward to rapidly recoup the expense. At which point, favors are quick to earn...and still quicker spent, but still.

Oh, I know. When I'm farming favors I do horga'hn hunting, Dancing, even artifact hunting. I don't use impulsive floaters, I use superior and I can get four toons through the both hunting games.

as said you have to expect to be outclassed by those who have played 16 hours a day since launch. I don't do them for that reason. I do wish the monkeys were available in some of way

Better than the Dance is actually cycling HorGahn Hunt and Flying High on 3-5 characters. Ideally with fast Impulsive floaters. Horgahn Hunt will easily net 300 favors in its 15 minute timer, at 5 mins per character. Or if you are really good and can flip 5 characters in at 3 mins per, 500 favors. You can easily cycle 5 characters through flying High continuously within its 15 min reset window. So another 250 favors every 15 minutes. The Dance contest will give you 100 favors for 15 minutes, with a very slight chance of 200 and even more remote chance of 300.

I did that at first, too -- well, no. I used the rentals, replacing them with impulsives as I could. But once you've got a set of impulsive floaters across enough captains, Horga'hns are all you really need. They can pay for themselves quite quickly. I'm guessing your superiors are from past summers? Because they cost the same as impulsive floaters while being quite a bit slower. No reason to buy them now.

I've tried the impulsive floater and it has a bit too much 'float' when I approach a statue. I fly right past them. I know when to let off on the superior, so I'd rather not have to re-learn how to stop.

Still, we all have our ways and our fun is right ;)

I cycle four through Horga'hn when I do it.

I can sometimes squeeze in 4 just barely. I'm not a good enough floater pilot to do it routinely. I think most people could easily hit 3 every time.

Well Biathalon does spawn twice as often, same as Scavenger Hunt.

Horga/hn Hunt is nice and often do on 3-4 toons though it is once once an hour.

On the other hand...there's a ton of stuff to do other than races if you don't enjoy them....or you could just play the game and not go to Risa other than the daily for the ship.

As far as races go, having one of the best boards/floaters itself doesn't guarantee a win, especially with the Biathlon. If people don't have the skill to use their gear (or are having a bad luck day) they can easily disqualify themselves. I know. I've done that myself, sometimes in a way that makes me ask myself, "Why did I just do that?" The best way to get skilled at the races, is to do them. That said, I personally have more monkey tags then I'll need for quite a while. And this is only my 3rd time doing the Risa events.
