Going to be very surprised if this has much noticeable impact on Dilithium prices other then a short spike. Personally I took one look at the Dilithium cost and bought off the exchange instead. Still its a start and as long as more is to come we might see a stacking effect that will have an impact.

I am more interested in the 20% off the Dilithium store. The only problem is all the items I would have brought are broken. There are tons of hangar pets I would have brought but there is no point until Advanced and Elite hangar pets are fixed so they are worth while over blue basic pets. Why spend 60k Dilithium for two advanced pets for a carrier when they are worse then basic pets which don't cost any Dilithium. If full carriers got fixed which is long overdue and Dilithium based Carrier pet upgrades got fixed wouldn't that help matters?

EDIT: Also the Kits cannot be upgraded. If the kit modules could be upgraded more people would be tempted to spend Dilithium on them.

    "Some of our most popular"...
This is literally the list of all vanity shields you can only get from the weapon packs/exchange.

At least this is not a bad price and those who overprice them on the exchange are in for a surprise.

I'm guessing they're testing the waters with what their data says were the more popular ones before trying to expand the options. At least its not a rediculous price like the outfit boxes were. That is a LOT more reasonable, and accessable to far more people.

No, I mean, this is the WHOLE list of lockbox-originated vanity shields, the others are all reputation shields, mission rewards, summer event store or one-time limited promotions.

There is nothing else to test, since the priciest-to-get rarest shields (Pink, Medical, and Platinum excluded) are all already there.

That's a good thing, but I find the way they word it to be hilarious.

That's like saying "we're giving you the opportunity to purchase some of our most popular T6 ships" and then they give the list of all T6 ships that aren't from the C-Store.

Nope, the Discovery Refit Vanity Shield is missing from the promo, likely due to it being the most recent shield available from the current lockbox.

I like their idea of offering the vanity shields for dilithium. I'm not sure to what extent it'll work. What I've never liked is not being able to see what the shield(s) would do for my ship prior to purchasing. Therefore, I wouldn't gamble & purchase. I know there are some third-party examples out there showing the vanity shields but finding a particular vanity shield on a particular ship can takes time & even then strike-out.

Ok its MOST of them. But not all. They also don't have the Zhat Vash shield.

Now I'm confused, isn't the Zhat Vash shield the last one listed?

What my big fear is now thinking about this opportunity for about an hour is ... Cryptic doing well with this idea "testing the waters" & then regardless if this sells well or poorly since there's no way to see shields' appearances on our starships is Cryptic will then sell these shields in a Mudd's bundle which would be for account gutting everyone that buys these vanity shields now for only per character.

Can we just get upgradeable versions of the discoprise's torps, Herald torps, shuttle deflectors, etc. in the dil reclaim?

Kelvin DBBs, Omnis and cannons would probably sell, too. Heck, they could move a lot of the lockbox weapons in there.

Not really into space barby myself but it might be fun for those who are and have the spare dilithium (assuming they don't already have the shields).
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    This is..

    FANTASTIC.

This is exactly what they should do.. thank you. I believe this will take quite a bit more DIlithium out of the supply then people think.. I know I'll be getting at least 3 or 4 of them.

Vanity Shields are cool.. but for hundreds of millions of EC on the exchange, it's just not worth it. If I can get it by spending a chunk of my otherwise worthless backlogged Dilithium.. I am all in on that.

This is targeting players like me who have no other use for Dilithium but trading it for Zen to convert to EC. This will work on me.. sold. I have a couple characters that will be getting the Section 31 and probably the Discovery as well.

The shields are about as rare as ships, so sell for like 200 million EC

I feel like I can put my tinfoil hat away now. I trust Cryptic—but I couldn’t stop my sneaking suspicion they didn’t care about the dilithium exchange.

I feel like this devalues the vanity shields I grinded for. But I am happier with taking a little EC loss for the health of the overall game economy. And who knows, maybe I will pick up another shield with all the dil sitting on my kdf recruit.

Great decision. It is a fast and proactive response. And the developers fessed up to the issue rather than burying responses in the discussion threads of reddit. I feel more confident about the state of the game...and I may someday spend money on it again...maybe!

    Thanks so much Cryptic!

This is not something I have any interest in. None of my Dil will be going towards this but by the sound of it many others will be throwing their Dil at it. Overall it's an interesting idea. Maybe it'll work, perhaps not. I can't see into the future so I'll just wait and see.

If these were account unlocks, then maybe I'd get one or two. But single character unlocks? Nope. Not expecting them to change that aspect of how they work, just giving a reason why I'm not going to get any.

It pretty much worked instantly, there is like 200k Zen available on the Exchange already and it hasn't even started yet.

It's a good idea, the problem is it's not a permanent solution. The offer is for a limited time, and once it's gone we're right back where we started.

It would also be more effective if it wasn't running simultaneously to an Infinity Box event.

It's a good stop gap for now, it's already working and there is once again Zen readily available.. the rate is even down to a rock bottom 499:1.

Personally i do not think it will make a huge impact on the demand for dilithium.
In the past offering costumes for dilithium was barely a drop in the ocean.

I appreciate that they are thinking about ways to reduce the dilithium reserves ingame albeit a bit late with the DilEx strained as it is.

Those uniforms were like a Million Dilithium for something few people even wanted.

Vanity Shields, especially a couple on that list, are in very high demand. As soon as the announcement was made, there was Zen back on the exchange for sale and the promo hasn't even started yet. I don't think there is any argument that this will absolutely make an impact, but what's important for Cryptic to remember is that this alone isn't enough.

In a week, the Promotion will end, what then? Will the inflation of Dilithium supply still continue? Will the constant sales pushing the demand for Zen continue? If so, then this is a temporary band aid at best.

I would prefer this bundle be in the Mudd Store honestly. 1 pack of 10 vanity shields for a single character doesn't do a whole lot for me. If I can use those vanity shields on different characters, then that's different. Cracking the 10 pack would give you 10 account bound boxes that would allow you to open each shield on whatever character I wanted instead of them all opening or being bound to one. Maybe it's just the wording of the blog.

Yeah, pretty sure it's going to be just a single shield of your choice for the price, not all 10. I could be wrong as rereading it it doesn't actually say either way. But, even if it were all 10 for 280k Dil, as a single character unlock the answer is still nope.

I would prefer if this sale lasted longer than a week. With 3 days notice + the duration of of the sale, newer players that don't already have a stockpile of dil are unlikely to be able to save enough to get a vanity shield. This means we either can't have them, or pay Zen to the dil farmers. I like the CONCEPT of this sale, and even the price is fine, I just feel that such a short time of availability is counterproductive.
  • abeaverabeaver Member Posts: 2 Arc User
just thinking but I assume this is going to be a char bound copy of the shield and if you want multiple copies it is going to be 280k per copy. Wonder if there will be a reclaim so you can have all your ships looking like that without swapping

It says character bound in the blog. There's no need for a reclaim as it takes two clicks to switch it....though it would be nice.

yup but thinking of the under utilized shuttle craft/ captains yacht. would be nice to have something there that if I choose to use it for some missions that I don't have to switch it in mission to have that look.

With the DilEx currently at 500-1 i remain skeptical.

The DilEx will not go below 500:1 unless there's a massive change - in both sinks AND dilithium rewards, which means adding the first ones and drastically reducing the second ones.
I really don't see how people can rightfully expect one shield sale to not only jump start it again, but also lower the prices more than, say, a couple of units.
