Since some others posted screen shots of game from years ago....

....why not me, too? My computer's getting long in the tooth (one main reason why my 3d comic is going slowly these days), and planning to get a new one in the near future, I found some old screen shots from game.

Here they are:

Hell... I'll share a few too, including the last day of OLD DS9 and ESD.

OLD DS9: June 4, 2018 (some friends and I decided to take a group shot with the wormhole in the background. I'm the one in the Sierra uniform)
    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false

Anyone remember this old Spec system?
    ?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=false

Back when a new ship was showcased in ESD Shipyard more often.

Last day of OLD ESD: April 21, 2014

I'll admit the one thing I liked about the old skill system was that you could allocate skill points and move them around before hitting accept to lock them in.

    That old skill system.. ugg..

They have done a great job improving that, that's for sure. That thing was terrible.

I miss that old spec system, and I mean really miss it. I hate when games dumb down things like this...just like Sega has done with PSO2:NGS. I don't care if people thought it was too complicated, it mean't really tweaking of skills.

For those longing for the "golden age," the old crafting and skill systems were much worse.

    Thanks for posting!

I remember that old skill system, you would be locked into a specific dmg type (AP cause that was the only meta back then, lol) and couldn't change unless you did a full respec.

I remember that it was a huge improvement over the spec system that preceded it, the one the game launched with. Back before energy weapon skills and torpedo skills were consolidated. Every energy/torpedo type had its own, separate skill that you had to put points in, they were locked by your rank, and the higher rank skills required more points to level up than the lower ones. Antiproton weapons were the last space energy weapon skill unlocked, and they were the most expensive.

That was also back when EPS consoles were must have, because they would essentially nullify the power drain effect when you fired your energy weapons. Then the devs reworked the power transfer mechanic, and not long after that they did a global nerf of all consoles.

    This one:

Yep, that's the one. I really do not miss that skill tree at all. Having to do a total respec if you wanted to just switch from one type of T5 cruiser to another was a real drag

That was actually my favorite of the skill trees. You could be really good at what you wanted to do. I had a Intrepid Rapidfire Transphasic Torpedo Boat, myself.

That tree wouldn't work now, of course. Back then, you were supposed to specialize and a have a ship that felt like your own. Now, it is all about buy-buy-buy.

I still maintain removing the day-night system on Risa should have been considered illegal.
