Proposition for Regional price for ZEN

northdevil#7155 northdevil Member Posts: 6 Arc User
Howdy folks!
Short story: Always players from my region could play STO from the ARC or from the steam (If they will add the game with VPN). And in November 2020 STO has been released in EGS with special offers and also regional prices. But after about 1-1.5 months all Zen offers was disappeared from the store. I spent a ton of time talking to EGS support and also cryptic, but no one could not tell me the main reason why all offers were disappeared. Then I decide to make a preposition to Cryptic about prices for my region (Russia) and they suggest me go to the forum.

I am a huge STO fan and I always try to appreciate developers for the game and also I would like to buy Zen with regional prices. This could help me support devs more often. And btw Cryptic where is offers includes 20k+ Zen?...

And so here am I. I know my region is not a huge STO community, but I think players would be appreciated if they could buy Zen with regional prices.

I have screenshots from the ARC store with prices and also I made a shot from EGS when there were any offers, so here is my proposition:
1. Сopy the amount of ZEN in offers from EGS and add them to the ARC store
2. You could add more offers within the shop with different amount of ZEN including

Hope with your help we could reason Cryptic to include more ZEN offers and regional prices.

Have a great day and live long and prosper!

Oh, I can tell you exactly why regional pricing vanished from EGS - people were abusing the hell out of it to get zen for prices far less than they should've been.
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

Maybe you are correct, but this happens only for my region in EGS. In other, you could buy any offers you want without any restrictions. Imagine you saw the game you always want to play and download it. And after some time you can't buy any stuff for this game through EGS at all. Overall I would like to buy ZEN from the arc, but with regional prices and more various zen offers...

The problem with that is that you'd have Americans or whoever, figuring out that they could exchange their currency to another country and thus buy their zen cheaper.

I know where I could get gift cards in Mexican currency already, without leaving my city... if Mexican zen was cheaper than American zen I'd be doing it already.

Yeah, I got it! Any other payment options are much expensive. That's why I've created this proposition :) Maybe Cryptic will add more ZEN payment options or bundles. Those right now are expensive as hell and not fair.

So... you're asking for more favorable prices in your region, while the rest of us have to pay more? That's such a United Earth outlook! (◔_◔)

As I mentioned earlier: I'm asking to add more ZEN bundles variations or add regional prices. As it did steam, Sony or EGS. Right now I could buy only 10k ZEN at once, instead of 20k+ in other regions. And also you could check with VPN in the ARC different regions have different prices.

The different prices for different regions are not more or less favorable, they're just in different currencies and so multiplied or divided by the exchange rate.

For example the pack that is $20 US is 400 in Mexico, but the exchange rate is 1:20 so.... it's $20 US either way.

(I'm using Mexico as my example as I live in the US but ridiculously close to the border... I know people who carry both currencies, etc.)

I did notice the zen amounts are slightly different on your screen & the most expensive batch is missing.

I understand you, but I could agree only with half. :) For example 4000 in my region with tax will be 4400, but it's not equivalent 100$ because of national currency and people purchasing power from my region also not equivalent as in the US because your salary in your country currency.
That's why most life-service games or "big players" like steam add regional prices for countries where people love games and want to buy them, but can't spend half of their salary on them (For example, phasmophobia cost 14$ and in my region, it costs only 4$"

Yes! The most expensive offer is missing, that's why these ZEN offers are irrelevant because of it. That's why as an option I mentioned regional prices for the region, but mostly I would be appreciated if Cryptic will add more valuable ZEN packs.

This is why this topic was created - try to make it possible for more people from my region to support the game. :)

Most of the games that have "regional pricing" are not MMOs.

Also... according to my research... hate to break it to you... but it seems I may be wrong about the regional prices just being in different currencies... if the prices in that upper pic are current, you're ALREADY getting a hefty discount, because it seems to be calculating an exchange rate of about 42P = $1 which is not the current exchange rate.

Yeah, you are correct most MMO's have their own prices. :) And for me, these prices are pretty good, but I think some players from my region may disagree with me. That's why I mentioned more variety ZEN packs more expensive for example :)

You're correct. Even at GBP £ prices, we get it cheaper than the US does, and traditionally, it's the other way around, especially when it comes to tech.
