I appreciate that Cryptic has tried to update this one. However it has to be said why is it so long ?
Everyone does the exact same thing... get the first 2 bonuses and then park. Its stupid Cryptic.
Consider making a never ending bonus.... a new level every 7 points. OR cut it to a couple min after the last one. I have better things to do then park and tab out of STO for 6 min every day after completing the bonus. AND you guess can't reward me enough to punish myself with the vault.
Just fix it for real. If you want to time gate it that hard at least give us a reason to be there for the last 3/4 of the timer.
The more ships you free, the higher the mark reward. Yes, it is a bit long, but hey, when Cryptic finally institute a proper system to detect afk, us that actually do the work can have a more enjoyable time.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

If only they would. They could use an individual point system where your points are calculated as a weighted average of your damage and your "objective participation":
damage done*damage weight + objectives completed * objective weight.

That would be nice. I keep freeing ships until the timer runs out since I'm stuck in the TFO either way and pew pew pew in space is fun.

Weird, that hasn't been my experience (and said experience is three times a day for the past two days, because I've got three accounts for reasons that are irrelevant to the conversation).

First couple days of the event. Many newish players that have never played that map. Give it a week and see what the afk number looks like. Today the one I did ya everyone basically parked after the second objective was complete. (at least they did help get both bonus objectives done)
I did notice some minor enhancements...not much to write about it but they sugarcoated it in the blog news. It is awfully long and perhaps one of the longest missions accounted for the Event Campaign. I like the quickie ones without being forced to stay with it for that long.
I agree as time goes on there might be an increase of AFK peeps in there. I wish we could have been given more choices of missions than just 2.
The vault one was 14 but that was with unplayable lag. Can it be done faster?
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
I have played through this about 9 times over the past few days. I have yet to see a run where everyone parks and waits out the timer. Maybe there were a couple times when one ship did that, but even when I have seen someone hanging out in the center area, they were usually at least trying to clear the ships from the respawn point.
Maybe it will change later in the event, but so far it has been fine for me.
The closest to parking I've seen was from some poor sod that was being spawn camped by the badly placed enemy spawns getting killed over and over until they asked for help. Or when the rescue spawns bug and there's naff all else to do but park up and wait down the timer.
Long term quirk of the game is that when you spawn there's a mini cutscene of the ship flying in during which time there's no immunity to damage which can leave a player in a stationary ship with no shields and a ton of damage coming their way before the game allows them to react.
This revamp and other recent additions have all had that lack of minimal testing that would have shown the stupidity and poor design of being spawned in the midst of an enemy group.
Honestly, if I am in a public queue and someone completes the objectives and then AFK's the rest of the way.. that's no skin of my nose.. I don't even see why that would bother me.
I'll keep playing because I'm already there and playing seems more fun then parking, but if someone wants to help out until it no longer matters and then go AFK, I couldn't care less.
call me crazy but I actually like longer TFO's. I hate it when it lasts like 15 minutes. Same with episodes and missions. I actually wish content in this game lasted longer. Like the way it does in ESO.
I really like what they did to spruce it up! It really shows to me.
I am having fun with this one. I am using my Romulan character for this event. No parking for him. He fights up to the last second trying to free his trapped countrymen! Every ship rescued is critical to his people!

I have zero complaints with this one. As TFO's to be repeated go, I like it. So far I have only seen one person parked, and even he participated when a cluster spawned in front of him.
Nope, I disagree with OP entirely. This is one of the good ones. Well done, Cryptic.
I have never been a big fan of this TFO but it is hardly the worst either. Only once have I seen someone just park and ignore everything after the two objectives, and since I noticed shortly after that we were short a person it might have been a disconnect-ghost instead of a deliberate AFKer.
Also, if you do it with a Delta recruit the more you kill the more dil you get which is nice (even though it is not a lot).

I haven't really seen this yet, but I can't really blame anyone. While the STF functions better than before, it is still awful design with an enemy that can be extremely frustrating to fight (Seems you can still get webbed with nodes on the outside thus untargettable, among other things.)
If I'm soloing an asteroid, I can buff up, wipe the enemies out in 10s, then sit there for 30+s pressing F. By the time I get to the next asteroid my 1 minute CD buffs are ready to go again. That is awful pacing.
One thing that's a little annoying is that I'm doing it in a Kor with Cannon Scatter Volley instead of BFAW. BFAW is great for clearing webs around you, CSV is not at all. After the change it feels like I'm getting webbed 3-4 times as often as before.
Sometimes it helps to hit evasive maneuvers but I'm still working on the timing for that.

So do it with a different toon that has BFAW...
This is my KDF recruit and I'm still earning marks for the reputations. I could switch to beams, but I'm seeing if I can get CSV to work despite the constant webbing.

I've been doing it on my Recruit in their CSV/Cannon Vo'devwl. I generally bait out the occasional web with my myriad of summons. Considering I've just been parking and soloing one of the asteroids each time I run the TFO, my Titan console is typically refreshed by the time the next ship/wave spawns. It does a good job of completely shutting them down long enough to clear them out; anything left over gets hit by the Support Carrier console to force them to face away from me(they don't seem to web you if you're not in their forward arc). Confusion, Disable, and even Placate stuff would probably work nicely as well. Photonic Shockwave, the Point Defense console(I think it only has like a 1m cooldown now), or something like Unstable Warp Bubble with the Painful Memories Trait could be some other workable alternatives.
I guess my point is that there should be plenty of 'outside the box' ways to deal with their webs in a Cannon setup.

Minimum effort is the montra of the Cryptic devs and the players alike.

We have very different in game experiences then because I have yet to see this.

Thats how I do it, I keep battling targets cause theres always at least 1 who keeps fighting after the objectives are completed.
