Would you pay Zen to complete a mission?

indysharkindyshark Member Posts: 1,543 Arc User
I am stuck on one mission, Tenebris Torquent. I have died over a hundred times trying to complete it. I'd love a zen option to complete the mission and get the rewards. I'd think 50 or 100 zen would be appropriate. I"d only do it for a very limited number of missions. What do you think of this option?

I think it's a terrible idea. What exactly are you desperate to get? The flare?

    Skip it.
    Insert witty signature line here.

No, I just want to complete the mission. It's the only one I have not completed for my KDF recruit. I can't skip it to get credit for the campaign and completing all of the campaigns. I'd gladly zen or EC to complete it and move on!

It seems like a waste of Zen to use on a mission, It's probably best if you got help from some of us forum members, but even that depends on what system you're on, I don't think Cryptic made STO cross-platform but I could be wrong.

I have tried and tried to get help. I agree it's a waste of zen, but if you don't want to waste hours and hours of time to complete something, I'd call it a bargain.

Maybe you could tell us where you die, so we can talk about your mistake, because it is an very easy mission.

After being seperated you will be attack by the invincible hurq for the first time. You just have to run (sprinting is not necessary) further down the hall and jump over a gap in the ground.
When attacked for the 2nd time, you just have to run into a zero grav area ahead of you.
After meeting Garak and Bashir you, in every big hall, when being attacked by the hurq, you just have to run into the glowing zero grav pillar in the center of the room and he will fade away.

And for the end fight, you got your boffs, Bashir, Odo and some Jems. Beside running around you don't have to do anything.

And for space, if you managed to survive against hurq before...

No just "No", but "<extreme profanity> No!" ;)

    This is an awful idea.

NO and NEVER! Especially after all the money I've pumped into the game. I've never struggled with any mission bar that one in the Delta Arc where you've to get across those damned platforms.

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Guys, this is an OPTION, not a requirement. If you don't want to do that, you never need to do so. This is only for a really hard mission you can't complete.

    .

OP is stuck on the 3D jumping section. They've created a couple of other threads on this and people have made any suggestions they can, along with a few other people making snarky comments about how it shouldn't be possible to miss the jumps :( .

Jumping in an online game, especially one with the kind of button-lag that STO often has, is rarely a good thing and should not be an absolute requirement in any scenarios.

I might pay a very low fee to avoid the absolute worst of that nonsense if it were available, but that kind of thing sets a very bad precedent and starts down the slippery pay-to-win slope so I would not really like to see it implemented here.

Paying for mission completion is something I don't think should be offered. I DO wish you could buyout Tier 6 reps though, and individual level boosts separate from the Legendary bundles would also be a nice thing to have (I've already bought the existing ones and have more toons I'd gladly pay to boost). A mission completion buyout it just something that would defeat the entire purpose of playing the game.

I get that you're having trouble with a particular mission OP, but this isn't the answer, and unfortunately unless you can record one of your attempts so that we can see what's going on there isn't much more that we can say here to help you. Are any of your IRL friends or family members gamers who either play STO or are good with platformers? If so then maybe they could help you in-person some how.

I say sure, add it. Most won't use it, but for the few that do, it would be of considerable convenience; either because they're simply fed up with redoing the mission yet again, or just want to be able to pay to skip to the rewards screen. And given that most of STO's earnings are funded off the backs of whales in the first place, it would be a little extra money. Further, with Recruitment events now planned to become a regular thing, that would encourage players to play through some missions to get to the related Recruitment scannable or interaction device at least once, even the whales.

Make it 10-25 Zen to skip and complete a Mission and get to the rewards screen. Perfect for those who just don't want to deal with running a mission 3-4 times per character to complete specific sets, or skip disliked content like Coliseum. As well, being that "cheap" would keep it within the budget of those earning Zen the free way. The only things lost are in-mission drops and XP off defeated enemies, and any scannables (again, meaning Recruits would still have to complete the mission at least once).

I'd be fine with them adding it as an option. At the same time though, I don't understand why you'd want to do that.

If players don't enjoy playing the game, don't play it. If it's too difficult like in this case, then that issue needs to be solved in a different way. Jumping in the mission described here can be difficult, especially when you're being chased.

I've never done that part right the first time either because you only get the hint through some text that appears at the left side of the screen while you're watching your character run in the middle of it...

But IIRC, once you know when to jump, it's easy to complete it.

    [3/25 10:41][Combat (Self)]Your Haymaker deals 26187 (10692) Physical Damage(Critical) to Orinoco.

OP is stuck after days of trying on one section of one mission, and wants to complete it so their KDF recruit can complete that story arc.

I've felt the same way in games when running into one section I can't get past. You want to play the game, just not this one not-typical not-fun part of it that's holding you back.

Maybe one of y'all could record a run through of this mission with strategies and commentary that will help the OP get past this difficult bit.

As for the topic, I am not sure if it would be cost effective for the Devs to spend time adding this buyout option. I am not sure what it would take to code, and if they can't recoupe the dev hours needed through sales, it won't happen.

I personally would never use this option as it defeats the purpose of the playing the game in the first place.

People said the same thing about being able to buyout Event Rewards to make up for a lack of time (or motivation), and it ended up working out quite well. And before that, formerly not being able to skip missions to get to whatever featured episode arc was in vogue.

Same could work with skipping playing through missions to get to the rewards and a completion tag for said mission, for a bit of Zen (and/or Dil options; serving as yet another sink too).

That's a good point - getting episode reward gear on a new character. I hate having to replay the same episode 3-4 times in a row to get a space or ground gear set. I'd rather play just once per character then pay something like 4K dil per gear piece to get the rest of the set.

I have asked for help, watched videos and tried so many times I am sick of this mission. I have completed it on other toons, but not this one. I guess I was just lucky or something.

Can one of you guys help OP with this mission in game, I'm on Console, so I don't think I'll be able to help them, we're a community that helps each other out.

Thanks for all of your help. I can't explain why I am stuck on this mission when I have done it six times previously!

I understand -- I almost gave up on it, and it took many tries.

I've done Dust to Dust a bunch of times without it being nearly as bad. It's good for people to remember that different people have problems with different things, and just because something's easy for you doesn't mean it "ought to be" that way for everyone.

No. No. No and No. If they (Cryptic) started something like this and saw how many people paid for that option, they would suddenly pop that idea into future content and probably into old content. You must pay us zen to complete this mission.
