Synth Wave

Any idea when this might be available from the regular TFO list? It's honestly one of my favorites. Or was it just a limited time thing, and never to be seen again?

EDIT: Okay just saw it's returning for First Contact Day. I guess my question now is: Will it ever become regularly available for play?

Probably, eventually. To Hell With Honor is being added.

It is also one of my favorites... One of my favorite TFOs to warp in, launch pets, and walk away for 15 minutes.

One thing I like is when they simply the TFOs for events, like with Breach.

There's several that I enjoy but are just too long to do - like Synth Wave.

If they do put it on the regular TFO list it will probably be one of the ones that almost never pop judging by what people were saying about the scenario back when it was new.

For "Rewards Propotional to Team Effort," it is a very well done operation. However, it got a lot of vitriol when it came out. It took several months for some of the other Features TFOs to make the full rotation.

I would like it to not be an event, because then the people who don't want to be there but feel they have to for the event reward may be less likely to queue. Then, maybe the participants are likely to stay and participate. Hopefully.

In my opinion this is one of the worst PvE maps we have ever got. No teamplay, nothing there matters.

Thankfully my Meshweaver will handle it as competent as any pug would for the event so I can do something else with my time.

    Agreed.

Synth Wave is a microcosm of everything that is currently wrong with TFO’s in this game.

I hope those that like it enjoy it, right now I think this ‘event’ will just be 3 weeks off for me. Lack luster reward, both options for credit are unenjoyable and it doesn’t even count toward Event III progress. This has ‘why bother?’ written all over it.

I really enjoy this one when, and only when there isn't an afk'er on the map. It's 'almost' a tower-defense map, so I try to get the Cruisers and Battleships active first as they carry more 'survivors' at the end as well as assisting in defence, and have a better point score.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Players usually don't even know how to distribute their team properly in Borg "no, little escort, when you're faced with a choice between assisting another lonely and struggling escort and a dreadnought carrier with twelve squadrons of fighters distracting mobs, you should go assist your little ally" Disconnected.

So please, don't go and say Synth Wave requires "fairly good" teamwork because in this game, the most teamwork effort you can do is "one goes at 12, one at 3, one at 6, one at 9 and the last one either assists the objective in the middle or the most glass-cannon teammate".

To say that this TFO requires teamwork is laughable as saurializard mentions above. Not to mention, rescuing ships has very little effect in the end, and I'll tell ya why with an example.

During the last event on Xbox, I ended up with a rather smart team. During the first phase of the TFO we were able to rescue ALL of the battleships as well as many miscellaneous ships. However, by the end of the TFO, NONE of the battleships remained. Every single one of the battle ships was destroyed by the synths, so we got no credit for rescuing them in the first place. Pointless.

This, exactly. Not to mention that the bigger ships are more likely to get stuck at the end and delay completion even if they do survive.

    And that's very poor design.

If they add it to the regular list I would hope that means they do and Adv/Elite version. I could see there being a lot of fun to had in an Adv or Elite version.

Not keen on the normal version myself, like others have said it represents pretty much everything wrong with TFOs in STO. While Synth has a very poor design one of the worst designed TFO's I do like the idea behind it and think it has potential with tweaks to be one of the best TFO's.

The problem I see with having an Adv/Elite version of this TFO would be that the enemies would scale up in terms of toughness and damage, but the friendly NPC ships would not, or if they do, they wouldn't scale up enough. This would make it even more pointless to rescue the NPC ships since not even a battleship can make it to the end of the TFO on normal.

They could fix this problem by making it so that rescued ships do what other friendly NPCs do when they are defeated, and that is go into a repair mode.

My thinking is that would make create some real teamwork unlike the current version that is completely lacking in player engagement and teamwork. It would be kind of like the great original NWS where we had to protect the NPC not like the new NWS which is really badly designed. Then again with the devs poor track record with revamps and the revamps being worse designed then what they replaced who knows how an Elite version would come out.

I can get that, interesting perspective. Problem is that higher tuned players effectively have a hero unit that can go all over the map and just kill things themselves, making these 'tower' units effectively useless as towers. Add to that the already mentioned AI issues of them staying outside the circle, and it's painful putting in refugees to just die by derp.

One low hanging fruit solution for improving it a bit would be that when the admiral calls for everyone to fall back have all the NPC friendlies actually do that instead of ignoring the order and getting killed when the circle contracts.

Given the choice between Synth Wave and the "New" Mirror Invasion Event, I'll take Synth Wave. Obisek is the absolute worst insurgent ever. In addition, his fondness for more talking than shooting is quite irritating. Obisek also milks the clock a little too much. Been tired of rescuing his sorry butt for years now.

Yeah, I heard y'all about how the NPC ships could have more relevant AI. Which actually tries to escape instead of simply wandering directly into the center of the nearest Synth ship's gunsight. But this is consistent for Cryptic. Doesn't the Kobiyashi Maru immediately sprint across the map to the largest group of enemy ships in the NWS? For a ship which struck a gravitic mine, she sure is fast.

Synth Wave recreates a Federation disaster. A surprise attack where it is least expected. So there are some psychological overtones. Victory, as it is normally portrayed in STO, isn't possible here. This one is about rescuing and defending people who cannot defend themselves from an "unprovoked and dastardly attack". Which ought to be right in the center of a Starfleet Captain's lane.

Something I wondered about after the second time I watched Picard and the Star Trek Short Take about the attack.
How come the Synths didn't attack Earth? Which is just one orbit over after all. They had no problems at all slaughtering shipyard workers at Utopia Planetia. So a whole planet full of humans ought to have drawn them like sugar draws flies.

Yeah, same here.. but to be fair that's just like asking if you would rather get poked in the left eye or the right eye.

Because DSC and PIC are written in a shallow fairytale style where the villains do exactly what is needed to set up the unlikely story, no more no less. It is the same reason the hungry dragon always grabs the dainty 110 pound princess to save for a midnight snack and totally ignores the TON of juicy grade A horsemeat she was sitting on at the time.

Some of Y'all have been around here long enough to remember when someone going right instead of left in Infected Space was grounds for trying to get the offending player permabanned from all of Star Trek fandom.

    @seaofsorrows
Won't work. I've watched enough Three Stooges so I know how to block being poked in either eye. Nyuk. Nyuk Nyuk.

Because the Breen did it first and the Federation went: "Oh no! Anyway..." so maybe the Zhat Vash thought humans would be more offended to have their car garage blown up rather than their house.
