Star Trek Online: Terran Recruit Event

comradebliv#3047 comradebliv Member Posts: 72 Arc User
It would be pretty cool if you start as a Terran Bridge officer and build up all the way till you beat up the Captain and arrest him. Although, their would be 2 options... 1. You defect as a Terran Republic and start a civil war against the Empire or 2. During some fight in which you stumble across an anomaly in which you end up in the prime universe as a Terran Starfleet character.

Benefit of all this Cryptic? You get loads of mirror ships (Terran Tactics Mechanic or change stats to have new unique equipment), Event rewards, more Terran Empire/Republic uniforms, Terran Space/Ground Equipment, Terran Species Mirror Traits, and so on.

It also gives player an option to play a new Faction or Factions if you want to go with either TOS, 2409, OR Discovery Terrans it's up to you!

Maybe have Chase Materson be head of the story once again.

Cryptic has already said that they have no intention of doing a Mirror Faction.

As for Chase... word is the next story arc will have us going against Mirror Leeta again.

Do Terrans even know what "to arrest someone" means?

And no, "to send someone to the agony booth for horrifying torture because your phaser and dagger fell into the Jefferies tubes during the fight" doesn't classify.

Hell yeah! Not as a defector though! Let us be a infiltrator for the Terran Emperor/Empress!

    Long live the Empire!

Factions and Recruitment Events are two different things, what you're describing is a faction.

^this^ right here why would anyone want to be a Terran Defector, when Infiltrator is cooler and still makes us loyal members of the Empire instead of being Starfleet wannabes.

There's lots of possibilities but it won't happen.

Just like why we never had a Romulan Star Empire as shown in Star Trek movies and TV shows. Instead we got Federation 2.0, a.k.a. the Romulan Republic, just colored in green.

Just like we'll never have Tal Shiar characters, actively promoting the security of the RSE.

Just like we never have classic Borg to align with and make characters for. I'd like to be able to go around assimilating stuff for the Collective, but that's never going to happen.

Just like why we'll never have stuff like Nausicaan, Orion pirates.

    Etc.

Cryptic has never had us do villanous factions, storylines, even though the death toll we inflict is on genocidal levels. Not to mention this requires separate storylines different from the "One Big Happy Alliance." The devs have drifted from faction unique storylines ever since LOR years ago.

Coz some of us aren't psychopaths with weird fantasies.

I'm joking, of course, but villainous factions are rarely more popular than the good ones, if they have nothing significantly different and unique to be enticing.

In Star Wars, the Empire is popular, but that's because their ships are different, have some great sounds, the officers have various cool uniforms/armors, the aesthetics are different from the Rebel Alliance, their leaders are hammy as hell, their stormtroopers are hilariously incompetent and you also tend to face the legendary heroes of the other side.

In Star Trek, the Terrans have: cooler uniforms, hamminess... and that's it. Same ships, same names, same crew, same faces with different personalities that are rarely not "same person but as a bloodthirsty psychopath", same aesthetics except darker and with more flags, and almost all human-only.

It fits the "dark mirror of the Federation" theme but it's not interesting enough to be worth a faction.

It's a pity really. This game could really benefit from a villain player faction.

But how would it integrate into the story?
There's really nothing they can do to play into the "villain" aspect without having to give them their own story completely separate from everyone else. For all intents and purposes they'd be making an entirely new game JUST for one faction as the Terran Empire would not want to help the Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan Republic through the various conflicts in the story. They'd be doing the exact opposite in an attempt to destabilize the galaxy more to pave the way for a Terran Invasion. MAYBE if they weren't loyal to Admiral Leeta they might side with the Federation against her, but then just turn around and replace her as the leader or something and stab everyone in the back.

It just doesn't make any sense from a story standpoint.

So.. another federation-exclusive recruitment event then?

I'd rather see the Romulans get some love next. A Qowat Milat themed recruitment event or something.

Yes, they found out that idea did not work as they hoped when they brought in the Klingons in that role.

As for the Qowat Milat, it could be good but I doubt they will do one for at least another season or two because the amount of information and detail needed for a good recruit event would probably be too far into spoiler territory before then.

not so much. the vast majority of the playerbase do not like storylines of being the villain. renegade's regret pretty much verified that. granted the KDF were the villains, but the KDF has one thing the terrans do not have, Honor.

Lol good one. I'll be sure to tell that to the targets screwed over by B'Vat, J'Ula and J'mpok.

Maybe we could build a new villain faction, just move KDF, Romulan Republic and Odo's dominion to faction 1 as the Alliance, the new faction 2 will have the Terran Empire, Zhat Vash/Tal Shiar, J'mpok's KDF allies and another dominion with another evil changeling forming the anti-alliance.

That would just be a repeat of what already happened with the original faction 2. We would have a huge highly populous faction one getting the majority of the content and a far less populous faction two with nothing much to do since the players have shown practically no interest in PvP for years now for them to be the villains in, and making content for that subset of the playerbase is not feasible from a cost standpoint.

Then they would have to find some way of integrating those into the mainline somehow so they do not have to duplicate effort all the time and we would be right back to where we are now, only the names would change.

Before LOR things were very different for Fed & KDF. This old mission had KDF players board a Starfleet ship (Federation and Kllingon Empire were, as a reminder, at war with each other) after disabling it, subdue the crew, and capture the captain and beat him down for information.

It was fantastic, but unfortunately Cryptic changed it with the KDF Recruit Event, and it's now Rated E for everyone.

Cryptic didn't like doing extra missions, different POVs for different factions. Which is why, when LOR went Live, it was the end of faction unique storylines. Sure, there may be a few tutorial missions, but a contrasting set of missions throughout the game ended with LOR.

If they do add a evil faction It'll be the Elachi, they can pretend to be the good guys but they're still on my kill on sight list alongside Ferengi and Talaxians, sorry but there's no stun setting when it comes to those species.

The KDF Recruitment Event just happened on PC, and is happening on Consoles. Did you not play through the KDF side of things? They're the villains. Just look at their Duty Officer Assignments, and the tutorial/intro, Empire, and Warzone episodes.

All that stuff is old content, around from Launch era of the game. Cryptic designed STO with the premise of the Klingon Empire at war with the Federation.

But this slowly stopped and by the time we got into Legacy of Romulus with Federation 2.0 Color Green Romulan Republic, those different faction missions, storylines stopped. Probably too much work required. From LOR onwards, we started having generic missions for all factions. The only difference was replacing "Admiral" for Fed toons with "General" for KDF ones.

In the case of the Romulan Republic, they are just returning to their roots. In TOS they had only recently gone from a Republic style government to an increasingly authoritarian imperial regime (mirroring WWII Germany, which is reasonable considering Balance of Terror was an adaption of the WWII movie The Enemy Below and the Romulan ship in the episode was the U-boat in the movie).

By the time of TNG they had been under that regime for a generation or so (Romulans have long lifespans), and the underground who chafed and worked against the totalitarianism was gaining strength as the government got increasingly complacent (which was shown in TNG). The new Republic was inevitable, Hobus just hastened the process.

Just like we never have classic Borg to align with and make characters for. I'd like to be able to go around assimilating stuff for the Collective, but that's never going to happen.

But to be a Borg character would be watching the screen, it would be a idle game you'd never have control of :p

Pretty sure the current Story Arc says its not happy. After all, we just had the leader of one of the Alliance members pretty much turn against the Alliance when he hit Khitomer, then blamed it on one of the very people responsible for helping form the Alliance (The player).

Not really the Collective has a Borg Queen now, it'll be no different than Klingons taking orders from J'Mpok or Roms taking orders from D'Tan or Jems taking orders from Odo or even Feds taking Orders from Quinn, then you'll get deprogrammed by the Cooperative once you reach level 10 and pick a side between Feds or KDF.

There is not really much for a collective Borg to do, they are not independent entities at all at that point (except for a few who have strong minds and at least a hint of telepathy or other psionics so they can "get out" for a bit during sleep cycles). Originally The Borg was one dispersed being with a lot of moving parts (the drones), and while the queen stuff dumbed the concept down a bit and added a hierarchy the same applies for the most part.

Any Borg/ex-Borg character faction would have to start with something that partially or completely unhooks them from the Collective (or there would be no self-direction and therefore nothing for the player to do), which could be quite interesting as the player character and initial boffs work out the shock and reorganize into a co-operative or even an un-networked team of individuals to survive whatever caused the disconnection in the first place.

A queen...not a thousand queens, and no kings. Even the named Borg in STO are basically just drones, they do nothing that shows any independence, Locutus never seemed that independent other than having a name. The Queen is the only figure in the Borg to ever show a distinct personality
