This Mission SUCKS - TENEBRIS TORQUENT

indysharkindyshark Member Posts: 1,543 Arc User
I can't get past the case in this mission. I've played this over 100 times and get killed every time. I admit I am not good at run and jump mission, but this is ridiculous! I run from the monster and jump the canyon. I can make one or maybe two jumps before I am killed. This isn't fun at all. Is there a way to get through this mission? I'd like to complete this arc and this mission is keeping me from moving forward. I don't want to skip since I wont get the recruit credits.

Try to be in run mode when jumping. Takes a bit of practice but it is not hard. 😃

Did it on a mousepad after the 4th attempt. It really isn't that hard. Just run and time your jumps to the very edge.

I have been running but can't seem to get there. It's very frustrating. about every tenth time I can make the first jump and a similar success rate to the second. I've never made it to the third.

Try angling your camera down when you get to the part where you need to jump. The lighting there can make trying to jump while following from behind like normal difficult because its harder to judge where the edge is. By angling down, you can actually see the edges better. While you may have "less reaction time" due to not seeing as far forward, the edges are a lot clearer because you can actually see them, and the stuff below provides contrast as well.

I know how frustrating something like that can be, but once you know the tricks to it... its not that much of a problem.

So I'd suggest angling the camera so its... I wanna say, at a 45 degree angle or so above you pointing down at first, and experiment from there. Anything to get a better view of those edges to know when to jump. My first playthrough back when the mission was first added was frustrating because Lighting 2.0 made it hard to know where the edges were if I stuck with my traditional camera position behind my character. Kinda like how you can't see the edge of a cliff until you're almost right on top of it in many cases.

This is those moments where I realize playing different types of games greatly helps with others.

The only time I died or failed this sequence was because I accidentally turned around right into the Mutant because in games, either you start the escape sequence facing the massive enemy and you have to run facing the camera or the opposite, so I pressed the "move backward" key by reflex.

While I had the upper hand at first since my mains are the kitties who can jump higher, my other characters didn't have issue either.

What I can suggest is to die on purpose to take time to see where the gaps are the smallest and jump there. There is also no need to hurry after the first jump as, AFAIK, the mutant doesn't jump (or if it does, it gives you a generous lead).

EDIT: Alright, I checked on my Reman, and indeed, there is a risk of falling when you're not sprinting, but it's still manageable without if you jump at the very last moment. I do think it requires you to have some "muscle memory" from platform games, though. Without sprinting, I only failed at reaching the last platform leading to the antigrav corridor and even then, the floater activated as I was falling, allowing me to fly to safety.

The mutant does do at least the first jump, but it does give you a decent lead.

It does? I've been standing on the first 3 platforms for at least 2 minutes each and it doesn't do anything outside of using its screaming AoE and it kept me targeted all this time. I even accidentally rushed at it with a melee attack (it allows you to walk over the gap to reach it, amusingly enough). Unless its AI got broken recently.

I am unable to do this as well. I finally gave up and skipped, but gave it another try recently. Still nope.

I am just bad at platforming game. Which is why I play MMORPGs instead. But then sometimes they stick platforming into them for no apparent reason. One of the reasons I stopped playing GW2

It's been a year or so since I did it last so it must have changed since then. Or I'm just misremembering and it was only the scream attack like you're seeing. Either way it did kill me after I made the first jump and thought I was safe.

I tend to die at least once due to input lag spikes that randomly hit me during that mission. If I didn’t have to worry about that I’d be fine.

Just played it on the new recruit. While I've not really had issues at that spot, maybe some general advice would help.

Assuming you're using mostly default controls, the one method that they don't show you very well is Mouse Steering. Default is to hold down Left and Right Mouse Buttons together. This will start moving you forward with precision mouse control.

Any area requiring truly 3D motion benefits a lot from this. This mission, as well as Step Between Stars and Risian summer Floater flying. Can also be used for soace piloting, but right now we're talking ground.

Here in Tenebris, at the Mutant section, start holding down the two buttons, then tap Shift. You can release shift and the Sprint continues, and this frees you up to aim with mouse and jump with spacebar. You can then easily keep the speed needed to make all the jumps.

Then when you get to the Antigrav parts, aiming with mouse will make it easier to control your floating thrusters. Just aim the camera where you need to go, and when you aim up or down you will rise or fall.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Wow I've played that mission a ton and never failed the jumps, I was actually wondering on my recruit if you could fail them cuse like.. where you respawn if you did? Didn't try though.

I don't know this is far from impossible.. just be running instead of walking? jump closer to the edges

Some people are good at 3D platform games, some are not.

I can often get max score with the omega trace minigame, but I'm lousy at the dil mining minigame. People have different strengths and weaknesses.

You using mouse or keyboard for the DL Mining? I personally found my reaction time was higher with keyboard over mouse. Left and Right Arrow keys rotate, while Up and Down change size.

I use shooter mode myself in TT.

Never had any problems with any minigames.
Now a LTS and loving it.

As long as you can get to at least 735 in the Dil mining mini-game, you're fine. Getting anything above that score doesn't net anything more.

Huh, the opposite of the omega game then, where mouse works better. I'll try keyboard for dil mining next time.

Totally agreed.. but I admit, this one I don't get. This isn't really a platform style thing is it? You literally run toward the gap and right before you get to it.. you press space bar. This 'puzzle' is just press space bar 4 times.. why we have 5 different threads on this one simple issue is absolutely ridiculous.

Ugh, totally. Getting to this point in the mission on my old computer stopped my enjoyment dead.
Granted, that old beast would sometimes take 10 minutes for the new DS9 to render when ViL dropped.

I guess parts like this are one benefit of being a super old grandma. "Platforming" was a big thing in the '80s and '90s, and these sections of MMORPG games are a joke when compared to what we had to go through back then.

That was what I thought as well, when I read the opening posting. Playing Super Mario as a Kid und Tomb Raider as a teenager, was a lifelong training.

It respawns you just before the first jump.

And yes @colonelmarik ... that's Dust to Dust and I fully agree. I have long thought that the timers there need to be longer (you get to pick "easy" "normal" or "hard"... even "easy" is hard for me - my KR took about 10-12 attempts - and I can't imagine I would ever be able to complete on the other settings.)

But the jumps in Tenebris aren't as rigidly timed. It's more a matter of two things: left-right aim, and timing the "jump" action so you actually make the far side. Usually takes me around three attempts.

I learned a cool trick with my Klingon Recruit.

I used the Personized Spatial Trajector from the new lock box, if you don't have anything targeted it just teleports you 10km forward. I shot all the switches on the wall to extend all the platforms and then I was able to just teleport straight across. First time I ever made it on the first try.

    That part sucks.

Interesting. Does the spatial trajector work on TENEBRIS TORQUENT? All of my other kits don't work. My ice boots do work.

It should not work, because of the "dampening field" debuff knocking out energy weapons and kits. Fortunately it's only in that one spot and the places where your antigrav thrusters kick in.
