I'm not 100% confident since you stated you're console & sometimes circumstances are different between the console & pc versions, but ...

If Cryptic dishes-out a free character slot for this event like they did for pc then absolutely. It doesn't have to be a Discovery Klingon either (they just have a different visual), it can be ANY of the Klingon faction species that qualifies.

During the event is the only time of eligibility to receive the Encrypted Klingon Receiver that grants a couple of big & then mostly small rewards for completing goals big, small, & some very long term.

Again, not sure about any differences between pc & consoles so I apologize for my ignorance, but enjoy the event when it begins.

Content-wise there's no difference. The reason to make a recruit is for some unlocks that can't be earned any other way. The big ones being a T6 BoP, a new ground & space trait (Warrior's Blood & Hunter's Instinct), the Bat'leth of Sto'Vo'Kor, and an Adep'ta DOff.

Also - longer term goals have interesting unique rewards such as an endeavor xp earned (percentage based) boost for your entire account and a very rare CrtH doff for your recruit.

If I was thinking about starting up a new toon it would definitely be a kdf 2255 recruit as it's possible to get back to it when you have time. All that's needed is to receive the unique recruitment device in your inventory and complete the tutorial.

Absolutely. You certainly aren't going to look back a year from now and regret creating a recruit and having account wide rewards. But you certainly might look look back a year from now and wish you had (if you don't).

There is basically no down side to doing it while you have the chance.

    No, yes, no, oh well!

That was my reaction towards the whole recruitment and if its worth to do this time. All in all, lots of tasks with poor rewards.

Highlight is probably the endeavour XP increase we get together with a few direct perk points. For those who keep busy with the system this reward should shave off a moth of the grind. For the rest it will be substantially more.

OP I suggest to at least start a character. After the tutorial you can take your time to see what and when to make use of it. Better save than sorry as @thegrandnagus1 suggested. Should be the best advice you can get!

As others have said, better to have one than not. Some good Character and Account rewards, but not as generous as the Temporal Recruit. Just start one and get the Receiver, and you can then complete it at your leisure.

There are a few useful things.

If you enjoy melee there is a nice personal ground trait reward.
If you do your endeavors regularly and want to maximize the speed of which you get perks there's a nice account wide reward for that.

Other then tho... not much really.

I'd say create the character and get through the tutorial. That way if you want to complete the objectives at some point you can even after the event is over. No real loss in doing that.

It costs nothing except a couple of hours of your time to make it through the tutorial and get your communicator thing.

You can stop after that if you want and finish later at any time. As long as you did get the shiny gold thing in your inventory that shows your progress.

IMO, it is if you plan to have alt characters. Though the rewards for this event are small when compared to previous recruiting events, every little bit helps when making a new chacaracter.

Heck ya. Hope that didn't cause any confusion. I chose a Discovery Klingon as I had most of the other KDF races covered and thought he looked rather suave and debonair in a Klingon sort of way

You could choose any of the races shown here - https://sto.gamepedia.com/Klingon_Defense_Force#Races

Be sure to claim an account wide unlock of the uniform for your other KDF toons before the event ends. Z-store > Uniforms.

Surprisingly, I happened to encounter the very same question in several channels tonight as to what counts for a recruit tonight so @westmetals your additional clarification is very timely ^^
