Its a sign of ineptitude on the part of the devs. Just like all the unresolved bugs , they refuse to fix. I would rather they make no new events, no new ships, and no new missions, until they fix as many of the bugs as they can.
While I might accept that fixing a bug required a patch that caused this problem yet again, it is unconscionable that they didn't have the courtesy to warn players or even make an official announcement.
I just ignore it and play on. The Wonderland doesn't require skills and in the TFOs for the event I didn't notice a change in performance

"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
There's no heads up about this happening. There's no fix to stop the respec from wiping away all Personal Ground & Space Traits and Starship Traits. There's no end to this either. Just pure greed riding on a broken space casino while they nerf and power-sell what you think you had into obsolescence.
Log in race log out, hope that helps the metrics..... because you getting nothing else from me, not a pennny.

Sounds like something's bugged, linking skills to something else. Feels like whenever they would change something random in the past, the Borg would break.
Really hope the Bug Team is looking into this. Almost once a month is excessive, even for me. Code ain't playin' well with SOMETHING to keep triggering this.
Edit: I'm going to blame Corona on this one. Bug Team can't work as effectively as it has in the past because of this pandemic.
And of course, we got a nice, welcome warning about that.
...
Oh wait, no, we didn't.
Just scrap the whole thing and restart from the beginning, because this isn't gonna continue like that every month. And tell Kael to do his job and at least tell us about it.
But hey, at least, we can participate to a contest to get a fuzzy tribble the same day.
I learned a lot of things about what skills I wasted a point on and things to enhance my builds. It takes me about 3 days to respec all 56 characters, but in the end they will all have better specs.
Cryptic, "invalid skills" issue should never happen again. You have all the data right there. It's one fracking line of code that could fix this. Stuff like this kills your customers confidence in you and your products, especially with the cost of things in game going up. If you want to charge more, you need to start bringing your "A" game to development. At times it seems like you have forgotten that your customers are here to play "Star Trek Online", not "Respec Online".
Yeah, it should only take a few lines of code for the game to read the old skills and redo them automatically. That we are forced to do it manually is ridiculous.
But regardless, I'm not sure it matters for older characters. I re-speced the 1st time, but not the 2nd and did not not a difference. Maybe it prevents further spec points from being spent, but most my older characters have all trees already full.
Oh, FFS, that video is an hour and 15 minutes long
Well, it is interesting, but also full of "depending on your style of gameplay, most other skills I didn't pick can be useful, except a few truly useless ones".
Like Cryptic is begging players to quit in annoyance and make them leave to play other games... I'm wondering if it is complete incometence or pure intent.
But, as I as far as I've obeserved it - its abolute needless to reset the points - it seems the stats behind it are still the old ones as long as you won't change them. Anyone who can confirm that?
I still haven't respecced from the first time and notice no change in performance whatsoever. I'll give it another 6 months to see if it calms down a bit.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
For those of us who do not want to change our skills, why can't they simply make it so that when skills go invalid, and we get a free re-spec, all we need to do is click 1 button so that it just copies our last skill selections, and makes them 'valid' again?

I have not bothered to respec any characters since the first time this happened, far too many to go through. No noticeable drop in combat performance that I have been able to see, and I have not had any problems using spec points either.
Unless you make regular changes to your character's skill, traits etc. then my advice, like others, would be just to leave them as they are, at least until they fix whatever is causing this or at least give us a way to export a character's spec so we have a record to make things easier.

I refuse to get re-skilling every toon, just to have it reset again a few weeks later

Oh wait, no, we non-US folks can't.
Clearly this is just a cheap way for them to pad their precious metrics. ;D
Before you respec, I highly recommend watching Timberwolf's Technical Guide on the Skill tree.

That would be to easy
