They generally don't announce it in advance, but it's usually on sale for a whole month about twice a year, and often a shorter duration sale in late November ("Black Friday" and such).

    Thanks

honestly, at this point in the game I'm not sure I would bother with LTS. the destroyers are nice and I like the trait but all the perks have been given away for the most part

Direction of the game into an endless downward spiral of back to back events should definitely play a factor in anyone's decision making process when it comes to the LTS nowadays.

Not being in the US...when is Black Friday this year? (it would be ironic if it was the day just after the elections heh)

LTS is still decent value when its on heavy discount but recently there has been an increase on the lockbox ships and promo box ships compared to c-store releases. You may want to check if this is becoming a trend before deciding, cause apart from the zen stipend the other things arent that much and they dont seem to add into its value with further things. That may change though as well

November 27. Always the day after our Thanksgiving, which falls on the 4th Thursday of November.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

LTS made sense when the game was subscription, and to a lesser extent when it was F2P but there was still a Gold Subscription option to compare it to. But now just about everything, but the Destroyers, that was part of a sub is in the Elite Starter Pack.

And I guess it depends on how many characters you plan to have. If 1 then LTS is a huge waste. You could get a lot more stuff 'a al carte' for that $200. If >1 I'd go tally up what value each toon would get from the LTS and see what works out better.

Now if STO started giving a daily key like Neverwinter, then there'd be a very small chance that a LTS could pay out nicely. One lucky lockbox could get you a few hundred million EC.

The LTS would matter more due to the stipend, if they were actually adding same ratio of c-store ships as in past. Right now most ships go either in normal lockboxes or promo boxes

Is there a way to get lifetime subs when using STO via Epic game stores?
  • fovrelfovrel Member Posts: 1,448 Arc User
It is right now on sale until 10th december. If you are like me, an altaholic, I can advise it. It also looks like more stuff is getting account unlocks. I love my LTS, but I would only buy it on sale and on PC for the monthly stipend.

I'd think a tough sale when Cryptic has discounted it down to $150 a few times previously & especially with the way Cryptic has been operating STO lately, but who knows when Cryptic will do that again.

...enormously eroded the buying power of the monthly 500 Zen you get. When this started, 500 or 1000 Zen would buy something. Now Cryptic has their hands out to claw Zen for everything... buyouts, the new bundles, Mudd's store. Ships that are in the $150USD range. The amount of things which cost Zen has increased, as has the unit cost. Drastically. The value of 500 Zen a month in the context of the game really is nothing.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the "Discuss this on the forum" button on announcements which used to take you directly to a thread to discuss that topic now just takes you to the forum in general, and not even the STO forum. They want to look like they welcome discussion without actually welcoming discussion now. Probably because there's not much good to say about them any more.

I know nothing about this game but my dad loves it. I want to surprise him with a lifetime subscription but I dont want him to know how much I'm paying for it cuz he'll feel guilty about it. How do you go about giving a lifetime subscription as a gift? He uses a PS4. & will the subscription need to be for ps4 or is it universal to pc/ps4/xbox1 devices?
Sorry, I'm soo not in this world lol but it makes my pops happy so I'm trying to hook him up without him knowing I'm paying so much lol
I cant seem to get answers anywhere and I dont understan a lot of the jargon.
    Thank you.

It's got to be done within game and it is platform specific. You'll have to buy it on his account when he's not there, as it can not be 'gifted' via the PS Store. I think you should be able to buy the Zen needed in the PS store as a 'Gift' if Sony allows that function, but it needs to be used during the discount phase if you want it cheaper.

Great sentiment! I don't think the Lifetime Subscription (LTS) is such a good value anymore, & as I stated Cryptic has offered it for cheaper, but if he enjoys it that is what matters, but consider the cost too. Also the LTS for pc is separate from consoles & I think each console type is separate as well. From what I've read console LTS doesn't receive the 500 zen monthly stipend neither. Good luck upon your decision.

It is correct that Consoles don't get the stipend, as a result, it's far cheaper on Console, and with it being in the Z-Store, it can be acquired for FREE if you grind out the Dil (and play the DilEx), which I did on XB. I have to explain often to other players on Console that reasoning, when they question why they don't get the stipend.
