Instantly fill your Rep to T5 with ZEN!!! (bad idea)

gilleylen#2528 gilleylen Member Posts: 67 Arc User
I am going to discuss why this is BAD and why this COULD be good. First of all, this is VERY BAD because new players who play this game want to get the best stuff straight out of the box, $30 for a full reputation? oh and $70 for a cool T6 ship? how about those cool bridges for my new ship $20, well after about 4 months they will get bored, their is very little to actually do, it doesn't take 40 hours to get material to make those items in the Reputation, spend a little money for ZEN and you can drop 30,000 dilithium in a few seconds get the entire set, this is "milking" the community which will turn it into a money battle where someone who gets killed by a better player who grinded everything out, understand things better will have an advantage. Why not go ahead a add new features to life time membership like "buy a life time membership and get all your characters slotted at max level constantly (my friend would spend 100 ZEN to max his character per level cause he doesn't have the time for as he calls 'stupid missions') this literally rips everything that progress has been made into just TFO battles, why work on story, a overall arc, unique rewards or anything if all it comes down to is buying out (which if you missed things you wanted but didn't know was out this is great for in case you missed it, like i missed Fenris Ranger's outfit, i would buy it where others got it for free)

now to the why it COULD be good, while those Ships do cost time, patience, frustration (anyone who worked with 3d knows that TRIBBLE is hard) working on balancing traits, working on weapon types, all the employees pulling long hours, meeting with angry fans who are outraged over everything getting so lazy with so many buyouts. the game has lost the entire aspect that made it interesting.. BUT, if this is used correctly, if this can removed the idea of lock boxes from the mainstream, if the entire structure is based around building those characters quick means more ships are in the ZEN store, more items are in the ZEN store, more bridges to buy, more clothes, more services, more options like (transporter effects) or fixed some outfits, If this fixed all the graphical issues (which upgraded with 'Year of Klingon' just look like a HD 4K version of a 1930's monster film shot for 4" TV format) if the money made goes into restructuring the entire game into a sequel (again not saying that it should be replaced but how Star Wars Battlefront changed in mid-game into a completely new format) replacing some old avatars with a new system, replacing old out dated avatars with better anatomically correct (years of playing games on my PC, i notice the slider system is exactly the same as SecondLife which was used in 2003 and still today but with the many new face lifts it got looks better but still bad, then in 2008 a game called Twinity came out and used a better system, updated avatars and it was 60% better just cause of that 1 thing)

so if this is the way it is heading who would support this or who would actually hate that all their progress and things they worked thousands of hours for can now just be bought for $300+

I think it was geared more towards veterans who have alts and don't want to run particular rep tracks on said alts.

And as Som said... PvP is kinda dead in STO.

Besides... by the time you actually unlock reps, you've leveled to about 50 and should, in theory, have a basic understanding of how endgame plays.

Its a browser games common monetary mechanic...but...all who play the game are mature people so if they need to control themselves, they can. Those that do spend there probably can spend these amounts easily so I am ok with that

Yea. Its an option. Some may take it, others may not.
And some reps might get touched with this more than others. *cough*Competitive*cough*

Rep buyouts are something I've wanted for YEARS, I'm VERY happy it's finally a thing , though the price is a bit steep imo.

One thing I don't like is that you can't see the price unless you already have enough zen to complete the purchase. Not an issue if the rep is at zero anyway, but if you've already put some time into leveling it part way there's no way for you to see the current buyout price before purchasing the zen.

The price is far too expensive. They should've made it 3,000 zen to get all reputations to T5.

I'll add that this 'feature' has been asked for by players. The price, however, is too steep and I don't see many actually using it anyway.

Cryptics tendency to make our character progression dependent on bad map designs go hand in hand with the philosophy of buyout options. That’s disturbing for future content for sure.

Thankfully some of the older PvE maps are actually good and so many other ways to get marks for our reps have been introduced. In my opinion a rep buy out is as useless as the finish it now with dil crafting button but why criticize that the option is available.

And lol yep. The price is out of the question. But I would see it from a different angle and face the embarrassment of realizing how much worth it actually is for Cryptic that we log and play some poo every day.

Cryptic's Neverwinter has buyouts for their Campaigns. 2000 Zen, generally for one but they have two Bundles of 6 or 7 Campaigns for 7,000 Zen each.

A common strategy for browser games is make systems that contribute to the powercreep, are time consuming(and sometimes annoying to raise) and add visible buyout buttons to save the time(or frustration if its annoying to normally raise them) by spending cash shop currency. Its something that has been a staple of Browser games for over a decade now. I am not sure why Cryptic would use it, as they definitely know it does create negative publicity too, but I am ok since its not a game that children play. Aka anyone is mature enough to know if 1. He can afford and 2. If he wants to support this type of design choices going forward. The support(or lack of it) is only done through our wallets - words do not matter

Question: How is a simple buyout option that gives a chance tp people who don't want to (or lack the time to) do all the rep chains (and not even full, as they have to go from 5 to 6 still), basically putting them on track with more seasoned players, a bad thing?

I mean, those who don't want it can just ignore it... just like in any other MMO to date that isn't Pay to Play...

For those who want to spend to have less thigns to play with, well, to each their own, i take that not everyone is strong in patience as the next person...

I mean paying for convenience is a very common thing in MMO's. Because its a definite money maker. I do agree that the price for this service is way too high though.

I think it is a terrible value for your money at Cryptic's current price point BUT I don't mind it being an option since Cryptic hasn't "tinkered" with the Reputations YET in an attempt to entice the buy-out. Besides if a person wants to complete Reputations that way I think it is foolish, but their money their decision hope they're happy. Maybe next up will be Cryptic applying the same service to regular Missions &/or Fleet Holdings too since Cryptic has a buy-out for Events already???

I was hopeful that this option offers more free ships, better event items for more money in means better stuff comes out, hopefully. It has good things and bad things but that was the discussion point. What hopeful stuff do you thing might come out, better suggestions for buyouts like instant leveling?

Share things that money should buy, share how things could be better and more..

money should (ideally) buy a bigger dev team lol. but since that's not likely to happen, i would say i'm not sure. I mean this game isn't competitive, so there is no real pay to win to worry about. I honestly can't think of anything atm. i'm blanking

indeed, it isn't Pay to Win because it's so rare to have people battlingeach other that it doesn't apply.

It's really just convenience and a way to jumpstart to newer content from the get go, which isn't a bad idea at all...

Afterall, the days where you can play all day on a MMO like WoW are getting quite behind and people want faster progress and something to relax with...

I can only say what I would do, and I would enjoy things the way it convenes me, and as of now it is the old fashioned way and use the Zen for other purchases... more in the Dilithium side...

Besides, if it's an easy buck they can have more money and make better stuff, art department and mission designs wise i see the improvements overtime...
