    Damned if you do, damned it you don't. Cryptic isn't making much off STO. PWE, the owners of Cryptic, takes in nearly all the revenue. Which presents them with the choice of squeezing the playerbase dry to keep PWE happy, or keep the players happy and have PWE squeeze Cryptic dry...and then the studio gets shuttered and some other team takes over with the same choice -- squeeze the customers dry, or get squeezed dry by PWE.

    Do you have any actual numbers for this?

    Precisely what I have been doing. Looking for a place to hang my hat for a bit. The Election Infection got me into a couple, but as you said... the more you play, the more the negatives amplify.. and I got pretty sick of one MMO in particular rather quickly.. I was actually having fun in this one, and almost dumped a little money into it. Glad I didn't now.

    Different areas do have different issues. If you aren't aware, Geko recently had to evacuate his house due to the wildfires in CA. So we just don't what outside issues are effecting Cryptic.

    Just got an in game notification of an Emergency Maintenance.

    No ETA was provided.

    Me too! I was in an instance with a bugged freighter that wouldn't move. We all just stuck it out and kept killing things because the freighter wouldn't move or die if we left it alone. Hopefully they fix annoyances like that while the server is down. We should have easily finished 10 minutes before the server went down.

    The CDF has been here for quite some time now. One has already made a list of content "additions" so we all know where our money has been going.

    Haha, maybe not then! I've had enough spreadsheets at work in my life.

    I like to fly my starship around and look at the pwetty things, maybe shoot the odd baddie.

    STO, there are far more positives than negatives in my experience, but lately I haven't played much else and that always magnifies the negatives. Why I think it's a good idea to try something similar, but perhaps I should just rummage through my Steam library too.

    I hope the devs can wrestle it back up soon!

    actually in that case you may like the exploration. and it's free so you can at least try it while the server is down. probably shouldn't be talking about another game on the forum though so if you are interested pm me and I could find some links with some info for you if you want.

    if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

    It's not what you think. It was explained there are 'assets' they were not allowed to take out of the office, so they've had to come-up with work arounds (Using Red-Shirt as test server etc). There is clear evidence that it's affecting productivity (amongst many companies), and blaming 'bad management' is a tad harsh. If, for an example, a Cryptic employee had off-site access to certain parts of the game/database/code and there was a breach that took the game down, or allowed unauthorised access to accounts and assets that personally affected you, you'd be painting the town blue with anger for them being 'careless'. There's no bad management here, just caution.

    I will blame bad the management. We have +500 devs and +200 others working remotely with zero issues and still the same exceptional customer support reviews. If management doesn't want to let people sign out equipment then it is the management's fault. If they have a poor & shoddy work from home VPN and VM infrastructure it is again management's fault. If a pathetic network infrastructure is used it again is the management's fault. Everyone in the CDF has shown they do not work in the software dev or MSP field. Defending poor management will not get you a gold Nagus ship anymore.

    Of course they won't tell us. Folk automatically throwing out 'it's bad management' are just being plain lazy. There's usually a (common sense) explanation. I'm unfortunately blessed with the patience of a saint, so I give plenty of latitiude when it comes to games, especially when you've been playing the same one for 10 years! :lol:

    At the end of the day, those that watch Kael and his guests get to see for themselves whether something else is going on if they know what to look for. He's telling the truth when he said they're facing limitations in what they can access from home, so that's not bad management, that's a company protecting itself from a potential breach.

    Oh, I completely agree on that issue. What I'm saying is that doesn't mean there isn't also bad management at play. Note that I'm not saying there is, but because we simply don't know you also can't say there is not. I hope that makes sense :)

    Working may not give you limitless insight, but it does give you insight. Especially when it is in a field where there are limited paths from point A to point B. It is pretty much the definition of experience. It is why companies advertise for experienced people....

    IF someone who works in the industry isn't allowed to criticize another company then who is? Who's allowed to call our poor practices on Cryptic's part? Cryptic themselves? You know its bad business for a company to admit that they screwed up or had poor management, that stuff only leaks when it reaches a boiling point and someone in the company discreetly lets a journalist know how sh*t everything is. Like with Anthem.

    Sure the situation is different, but an Employee who works at Target, can recognize how terrible the management is at Walmart for example. Similar jobs DO enable people to have insight on other jobs.

    Except we have zero actual evidence to suggest poor management. It's an assumption, made by someone in another section of the industry, within a company with seemingly much bigger infrastructure.

    I can't work at McDonald's and say my experience and insight is valid in judging the management or style of a city-based local franchise. Completely different scale, probably offering a different product and service. Let alone the complications of a pandemic on smaller businesses.

    It's not the criticism I'm calling out here. It's the baseless accusation.
