4th July weekend without a SUMMER EVENT - First time EVER!

These were the past summer events held in STO:

Date (PC)
June 27 - August 19, 2013
June 5 - July 17, 2014
June 4 - July 16, 2015
June 9 - July 21, 2016
June 8 - July 20, 2017
July 3 - August 16, 2018
July 2 - August 15, 2019

All of them started before this holiday weekend. See a theme...later and later. Yes Covid happened yet there is plenty of time to sell a new box and another huge grindfest.

The old days we use to celebrate HUGE expansions then major updates then just regular updates and then small patches. These days we get a shinie new splashcreen with a single TFO and a couple of missions. Where is the beef?

Anyway...Happy 4th of July USA! Not an american...Happy Drinking Day! and still love STO no matter. Like a hate/love relationship Cheers!

    Yup. My thoughts exactly.
Kael made a point in last weeks Ten Forward Weekly that there was a line we should not ever cross, and I agree, yet I wonder what's their line?

No Summer Event in July, or on July 4th was a line I truly didn't want crossed given how little has been done to expand on Risa Summer Event since 2017.
Imagine all of the veteran players that come back to STO during Summer to play Summer Event.
It is Summer, many of us still cooped up indoors too hot out, and maintaining social distancing. Many perhaps indoors with nothing to do this July 4th weekend of non-celebration, or maybe some at home lighting up a barbecue pit. Would be nice to have some Summer time STO event fun right now, wouldn't it?

This is the first ever year that I've been in STO with no Summer Event in July, and I cannot stress enough how much this is an affront on something I appreciated about STO.
I don't see any outrage, nobody seems bothered. I guess most are comfortable with STO doing whatever they want, and us players - meh.
Seems to be the trend, companies do whatever they want while paying customers simply accept it.

Err....it's July for another 29 days, and Summer doesn't officially end till 21st September (Meterogical Summer doesn't count).....that's why we're not bothered.

I thought I heard about something going on that has thrown off many schedules. I wonder what it was?

Oh yes, a worldwide pandemic with 130,000 deaths in the US alone.

I'm not going to join an outrage party or doom-post about my jetpack race being delayed for a bit.

I don't worry about when the Summer Event starts. Like Dave, I'll just wait for it to appear and I'll then do all my jetpack races.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

Given that we were made aware of the pandemic in mid-March, when home isolation became something to work around that seemed like plenty of time to restructure to maintain the yearly schedule on advance, which obviously the current material release seems more important to them than what we players looked forward to in July.
This is NOT a doom thread, but pointing out what seems obvious. I would have been more than open to the new content had the yearly schedule of Summer Event in July been maintained.

    Sounds like doomsaying to me.

You're a man of few words, very macho like an old western John Wayne character.

I believe Summer Event activities provided a sense of levity, and different game play type from the usual shoot enemies, shoot ships (episodes and TFOs we've all played many thousands of times over), and constant grinding repetition of STO which is a much needed break. That's why I believe group map activities like those of Summer Event are important to the game experience for those of us that feel drained from the constant game play activity of "shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot" repetitiveness.

I'd presume that the "vote for the summer ship, then we have to make it" thing (combined with the pandemic) also slowed things down a bit.
(like, if it'd been faster, we might have had the summer event, and then the current Klingon episodes)

Not sure why you're using past tense there. The Summer Event will still provide all those things. Being a couple weeks late doesn't change that. Nor is it some massive slap in the face/line crossed/<insert entitled whine here>. It's a couple weeks. OMG, stop the presses, end the world!

Where's that Picard quadruple facepalm when it's needed....

No, not the end of the world indeed and also not in a couple of weeks either, but in just over a month. Quadruped weeks plus an extra.
The fact that it isn't happening this weekend 4th of July is the problem which you do not care about but, and feel the need to trivialize. You don't care, cool.

That's because it is trivial. There's no significance at all to not being able to run around Risa on July 4th. I truly do not understand how the two are connected.
(heck, you'd think it would be a positive! No chance of missing a day of the event/"horrible grind" due to IRL holiday doings with the family.)

11 new Missions, most with fairly underwhelming rewards.

8 new Patrols that no longer trigger the Daily (55) Mark Bonus, if availible.

And as far as the Summer Event goes, in keeping with them emphasizing different things (Klingons), they are catering to our European players who take August off for holiday.

Basically you don't care so I doubt you care to understand, which would make me explaining seem pointless.

BUT, I'll try to sum it up quickly. Basically I look forward to the Seasonal Events at certain times of the years, and it's part of what kept me in the game as a way to break from the repetitiveness.
I really liked Risa as it was when I first started playing STO, and since then it seems less of a priority which to me is disheartening. It's something I looked forward to that seems to be getting less attention, and more lax. Risa, and Summer Event are now seemingly less of a concern to expand, update, and just push aside for newer content I wasn't looking forward to, nor cared about plus being more content that is the repetitive "shoot shoot shoot".

So what I looked forward to is getting kicked around with very little expansion. That seems to be the trend, and I don't like it, so I'm voicing my opinion.
    End of the world? No.
Just the way it goes, stuff you looked forward to can be kicked aside for content you weren't looking forward to.

Again you don't care, so probably doesn't matter to you. However if we're to apply this trend to how we've seen content (Foundry, Risa - day/night cycle, calendar...etc) treated or removed this means it could be only a matter of time before Risa, Summer Event gets trivialized, and shafted as well as anything players looked forward to while sticking loyal with STO for so long.

I think you're going a little overboard on that, into conspiracy theory territory.

Fact of the matter is we're still getting our Summer Event at the end of this launch of the new Klingon content. It is happening. Not trivialized. Not shafted. We're getting our Summer Event. The fact that its not running through July 4th means nothing.
Trying to tie it getting pushed back to things that were technical issues doesn't mean or prove anything.
    • Foundry - broke every time they updated the game.
    • Day/Night Cycle - casualty of Lighting 2.0 (Also Bajor had it too but everyone forgets Bajor)
    • Calendar - has been explained to DEATH recently so no need to cover that yet again here.

There is no Great Conspiracy to shaft the Summer Event. They've been incredably busy this year working on the new Klingon stuff on top of Corona hitting the US. The schedule is not word of god set in stone. It is subject to change at the will of the Developers. This year it was pushed back for the launch of Klingon stuff part 1. Doesn't mean that it will be so next year too. Pretty good chance next year's Summer Event will be back to its usual July window.
Not only are we getting it, we're getting a new Risian ship, and who knows what else. And over the years they have added things to the Summer Event. Not removed.

Yes, hopefully you're right. Risa Summer Events aren't being dwindled.

Although last years items all felt rushed. There was no reason to get anything unless you just wanted more of the same in different colored texture designs. Everyone I've asked was not thrilled will more baseball themed uniforms. Then there was the ship emotes that doesn't get much use. There was also that baseball throwing thing that's really difficult to use in tray.

The year before there had been lots of cool additions such as several emotes.

There hasn't been any new swimwear designs in years. Neither swimwear with pattern styling like tattoos.
A couple of years ago people here suggested having water guns (which are technically not weapons) with no response even though another game Neverwinter has water guns.
Some even suggested a new activity similar to Winter Wonderland's Klingon Ice Fishing monster to spray with water guns, and spraying stuff that jumps out of the water.

Risa still has room to grow, and keep lively if there's interest to do so.

Oh yes, a worldwide pandemic with 130,000 deaths in the US alone.

The flu killed 79,000 people in the US in 2017-2018 season, didn't seem to slow cryptic down.
    https://web.archive.org/web/20190215185254/https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.html

You could also have said you ate an apple; that had the same relevance.

    a) 79k is significant less
    b) c19 is not done yet
    c) I never heard of anyone in need of medical induced coma & artificial breathing for flu
    d) depending on flu strain you are immune afterwards; with c19 we hope there is immunity but we really don't know either that or long term effects.

Don't be dismissive of a pandemic because it invades your comfort zone; it does not make you look good.

Don't fret over this. It's coming. You just have to let Cryptic finish pushing sales, and drive the Dilex back up toward the 450 range before hand. That way it's more expensive to go through the Dilex to do the buyout. I mean, think about all the stuff released the past couple months before hand. Then realize a couple months ago the Dilex was down to almost 350, now it's back up over 400.

But if you need a 4th of July Celebration. There's always Phantasy Star Online 2.
