Purchasing Ships on the Exchange

christian#3573 christian Member Posts: 17 Arc User
I've seen in other threads members mentioning that it is possible to purchase ships on the Exchange. Can somebody tell me where/what Exchange?? I've been to the Exchange at ESD all the time, I see nowhere in the options to look for ships to purchase. Am I missing something obvious? I'm on Xbox One.

On PC, the ships you buy are ones from lockboxes, promo packs, lobi, etc. They're all in boxes, so they're in the "reward packs" section. There's all sorts of other junk in there, so you need to know what name to search for. "[T6]" is a starting point.

No idea how closely the XB version follows that. /shrug

(note: none of them are account unlocks or reclaimable.)

What ship are you looking for? Search for the name of the pack the ship is in, and "beware" some ships are in multiple packs and some are cheaper than the other. If you tell me the ship you are after I can give you the best search terms.

It runs the same as PC.

'T6', 'Tier 6', or typing in the ship class will bring up most ships.

Not really looking for a specific ship (ok well MAYBE if I could find a Verity-class, but I am NOT holding my breath). I was just wondering if I was not doing something right. I find the Exchange not to be the greatest user-friendly.

When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Something I want to add to this: You have to be very careful in how you search. Pay attention to the names.

Let's say you're in the market for a Jem'Hadar bugship. You do a search in Reward Packs for Jem'Hadar and you start seeing the more expensive ships.

There's the very old T5 Jem'Hadar Attack Ship which is basically useless now. But some will try to price it as high as the newer, better version at T6, the Jem'Hadar Recon or Strike Ship.

Some will try to sell the cheap Lobi Ship Equipment packs in the Exchange at the same price as the full ships that have the same name.

^ good advice. The exchange is buyer and seller beware.

An item is always exactly what the description says it is, but a buyer not paying attention can pay 600 million for that ship *equipment* pack instead of a ship, or pay 15 million for a useless *normal* R&D pack that does not contain lobi or a chance at a ship.

A seller needs to be careful not to click-click-click and sell a stack of 99 lock box keys for 5 million *total*, or leave off the last few zeroes when selling a 500 million lock box ship for 500,000.

Sales are final, support won't reverse the transaction.

I would recommend reading these 2 threads I posted a while ago:

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1249609/how-to-get-the-disco-connie-without-gambling

    https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/c4fhks/exchange_psa_sometimes_lockbox_ships_come_in/

Even if you aren't interested in the specific ships mentioned in those threads, the points still apply.

Don't the old T5 LB ships get a free T5U upgrade? Sure, not as fancy as T6 but faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from useless.

I know the Very Rare T5 LB ships do: Undine, Hirogen, Voth, Tal Shiar, Xindi, Cardassian, I might be missing a couple. Most of those ships are "retired" now though Hirogen might be last to receive a T6 face-lift. The Rare (blue) ships do not receive a free upgrade & are still (1) console down compared to the T5 upgraded Very Rare ships.

All these reward packs are in dire need of multiple sub-sections.

    |
    - Starships
    |- Science (Science Ships)
    |- Light (Escorts, Raiders, Destroyer, similar)
    |- Heavy (Cruisers, Dreads, etc)
    |- Shuttles
    |
    - Clothing
    |- Summerevent
    |- Winterevent
    |- Lobi
    |- Misc

The whole exchange is actually in dire need of an overhaul. With some stuff you cannot even search for rarity; its either all rarities or nothing.
