They did announce that the game would be under extended maintenance today, last week.
They even announced it on the forums, rather than twitter or reddit, or shouting it in the parking lot.
It's available now. Still about 1.5 hours of event left to play.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
NEVER assume you will be able to play events or buy on-sale items on the morning of the last day.
Maintenance might start early, maintenance might run long, the event or sale might or might not come back after maintenance. The listed ending time is not set in stone. Customer service will not give you your "lost" event progress or sale price.
They announced last week that there would be an extended downtime today starting at 5 Pacific, which for me is 8 Eastern (normal is 7 Pacific). I got it in in time.

I set an alarm too. I don't remember a time where I couldn't trust the in game timer in an online game. Very unprofessional.
Never happened over at Blizzard. Nope.
Or Square-Enix or *insert MMO company here". maintenance happening early or lasting longer is by no means unprecedented. Unexpected hick-up can and will happen so trusting in-game timers like it's a divine edict was never possible.
