Bug Found: Skill Retrain (from a "skills not valid") causes SNR

galacticgoogalacticgoo Member Posts: 61 Arc User
I first noticed this on Tribble, but now several times on Holodeck too. I have 56 alts and I'm doing a lot of work on Tribble with them looking for DPS. For some reason a lot of them have "skills not valid". When I click retrain the skill screen disappears. When I bring the skill screen back up is when the Server not Responding (SNR) occurs. I've seen this on both Tribble and Holodeck now. The SNR seems to last the same amount of time as when hit by the "Lag of death" we are all seeing. It seems to occur on every ship with "Skills not Valid", about 20 ships so far. Just wanted wanted to add another data point to help solve the "Lag of Death" issue we are all seeing. Also, why am I seeing so many "skills not valid" for ships that have been fine for years?

Also I'm seeing another issue after a skill reset and all new skills input. The ships acts weird afterward. Most of the time I see double the DPS on the target dummies the ship should produce, sometimes the speed is off. I've also seen this behavior after making a trait change. It's almost like the changed skill/traits and new skills/traits are blended together making a super skill set. The solution that seems to work is to shut down and restart STO and then switch/select an opposite faction ship and bringing it up before loading the ship I'm working on to see the real effects of the changes.

Normally I would move this straight away but I'm going to leave it here for a moment. I've been tracking this one for awhile myself. Usually a server restart will fix this issue but that's not always the case as of late. Where are you seeing "skills not valid" on holodeck? Also right now the testing map on tribble is not accurate in the numbers it gives you. it only counts hull damage which completely leaves out damage to shields. I submitted a write up to them awhile back and Jette has been working to improve the map when she has time.

I had this a few months ago on Holodeck, seemingly after getting a Spec Point level up. Never got SNRs but a logout and log back in of the Character cleared the 'Skills Not Valid'. Have not had it in a while but the logout did clear it when it happened.

Seeing this on most transfers to Tribble. Just noticed them on Holodeck today. All three ships I respected on Holodeck had "skills not valid". Confirmed the SNR occurs if you bring the spec screen up to fast. If you wait for the respec message the SNR does not occur.

WRT dps off on Tribble, made a new skill tree that increased the dps of several other ships by 5k. Really happy with the new skill tree. One ship though, just refuses to change DPS no matter what I change. It defies all logic since it was defense orientated and switched to Offensive skill tree and traits. It was also one of those ships that doubled its dps after the reskill change. But now its an under-performer compared to the other ships I've done. I use 3 advanced dummies with shields to try and produce a similar test environment for each ship. My test is the ship has to survive 5 min and produce an average DPS similar to the others (about 64k).
