Hasn’t every other series had a character that disobeyed an order? Kirk has made a career out of it and actually gets praised for it.

Kirk was a loose cannon, but he was also smart enough to cover his tracks or make sure he had an ironclad story for doing it (and it didn't hurt that he was usually right and could prove it). And he did not buck chain of command that often, most of the time he he went out on a limb he bent or even broke policy but that is a whole different class of thing.

And Burnham was usually right and could prove it - and the one time she was wrong, she got court-martialed and imprisoned; it was only the intervention of a "war hero" who turned out to be his Terran Empire opposite number that got her freed and granted the provisional status of "specialist" (which isn't even a rank - it used to be an E-4 in the US Army, but they got rid of that a while back).

Besides, when we try to bring things like that up in the context of DS9 or VOY, aren't we always being told that "Starfleet isn't a military"?

Seems kinda odd huh? In times of peace it looks more like the Coast Guard with Exploration duties. But in war, it is a full on military. So... is it a military or what?

Personally, Starfleet IS a full fledged Military. HOWEVER... their duties are not limited to pure military actions. Humanitarian, Exploration, Science... They do it all. So while it is a military organization, it cannot be compared to a MODERN military organization.

Before i joined the Navy I would say Starfleet wasn’t a military. Afterwards i agree it is. The US Navy isn’t limited to pure military actions. Humanitarian (Hospital ships helping with the pandemic, disaster relief), Exploration (the navy is taking part in deep sea exploration), Science (most of the tech that we use know started out as military tech)

Let me tell you of a few little tales of the Lobi Store.

Years ago before Item Upgrades, when you collected the three pieces of the Jem'Hadar Ground Set from the 2800 Arc, you got them at Mk XI max (with the weapon Rare, the others VR). In the Lobi Store there was an Item that would upgrade them all to Mk XII VR and give you an Outfit Unlock for 150 Lobi.

Along came Item Upgrades, so now that you can upgrade stuff yourself the Lobi Store Item was changed to an Outfit Unlock (only) and the price was raised to 200 Lobi. 50 Lobi more for less value.

Another example. The Enterprise MACO Outfit moved to the Lobi Store from the Dilitium Store, price 300 Lobi. Almost all Lobi Outfits are 200 Lobi. While this seems better than 2 million Dilitium (without Fleet Discounts), it is actually more expensive. At 10 Lobi per Promotion Pack, you need 30 Packs. Assume the Sale Price per Promotion Pack at 200 Zen each, that is 6,000 Zrn. At an Exchange rate now of about 350 Dilithium per Zen, that is 2.1 million Dilithium.

Wrath of Khan pieces, instead of being put in as one Outfit for 200 Lobi, put in as three seperate pieces at a total of 550 Lobi.

Breen Suit, put in at 300 Lobi instead of 200 after it had been in the Winter Store at 90 of each Ornament.

Leeta's Outfit, not 200 Lobi but two Store Items totalling 350 Lobi.

The Morale of this story - be careful for what you wish for with this crowd.

    no...
stop giving them advice on putting uniforms in the lobi store. these are cosmetic only items, not ships or consoles or weapons, etc...
a uniform and any parts should not be in the lobi store. a uniform does not alter stats in any way shape or form.

    You have that absolutely backward.

Items that give stats or power.. should never be behind the paywall, it's cosmetics that belong there.

    Why?

Because then you don't have people 'buying power.' They can't just pay money and be more powerful.. that's one of the fatal flaws in this game. Selling cosmetics is a far better strategy because not only will people absolutely pay to 'look cool' but it brings in money while preserving the integrity of the game and giving everyone a level playing field.

Not enough cosmetics for sale is one mistake this game has made for quite a while. It's a great way to generate sales without destroying the game. Yes, people won't like having to pay for cosmetics, but Cryptic isn't a charity, this is a business and businesses need money to survive. The best way for everyone is to sell cosmetic and vanity items as well as sell things that speed up unlocks so you can have it 'now.'

The idea to put it in Lobi or some other store is a good one, so is bringing the 'power creep' items out from behind that wall.
    Insert witty signature line here.

I would prefer account unlock myself. As a costume fiend, I LOVE the customization we have in STO, and seeing the creativity of the playerbase.

I'm also an equal opprotunity person, so... ETA on those various house outfits from Discovery as well? KDF Tailors need some love too. And... Romulan Nemesis uniforms?

I so much dislike the Romulan TNG (and for the most part pretty much all) Outfits, that most of my Romulan Characters run around in Mercenary (or now Civilian 2399 made to look Mercenary) Outfits.

I am not a fan of the TNG walking mattress look either, but the Nemesis uniforms would be a definite improvement over them so I am all for those. Most of my Romulans use variants of the Republic uniform or that mixed bits of the Romulan civilian clothing. One even uses the Dominion top with Romulan accessories as a kind of faint suggestion of the traditional mesh because the Romulan mesh is locked behind a paywall that I have not yet had a chance to scale.

One or two crews I have in the Rom-Fed uniforms (I do not like the ridiculous shoulders though) and at least one in the Rom-KDF uniform but that is pretty much it for anything "official".

It's good news the uniform is coming. More is more after all. Not that we can't make a very good approximation of it already.

Still waiting on the parallels/future imperfect bar combadges.

While we're at it, USS Faterider uniform😝

Well... we might come very close with the standard uniform pallet used by the Sierra, Antares, and Odyssey uniforms. They did add some more vibrant colors to that set.

really, how hard would it be? the TOS uniform with a neck piece/collar.

Actually it isn't anything like the TOS uniform, it is much stiffer and resembles upholstery or felted cardboard as much as clothing. Or at least the ones they were wearing in S2E1 did (some clips from the later Short Treks showed a slightly more flexible and normal looking tunic but it still had a long way to go to match the Cage or first season TOS tunics).

While I think the Discoprise tunics are extremely fugly compared to the early TOS ones on camera, they would make a good addition to STO where their flaws would not be so visible.
