[BUILD] Fleet Dreadnought Cruiser T6

winters83winters83 Member Posts: 486 Media Corps
Greetings, Admirals!

Welcome to Winters Budget Builds Series.

This series is intended to be a guide on how to effectively, efficiently and more importantly, build Starships on a “budget”. This is not intended to be a “min max” series by any means. The builds you will see here will show you how to create an effective build on a budget. Each video will cover all aspects of the build, Weapons, Equipment, Consoles, Skill Tree, Traits, Boff Abilities, Doffs, Specializations, etc. For each video I will also have the build replicated on STO Academy so that players can view the builds in detail and review them when needed.

Near the end of each video I will also demonstrate the builds in a Patrol so that viewers can see the build in action. I have chosen this over “Infected: The Conduit - Advanced” as the outcome of that TFO can be affected by the team that you are with. Whereas playing a patrol, you can see how the build performs in a single player environment. Every player, new and veteran, will find this series a valuable source of information. You may even learn something new!

If you have any requests for a particular ship that you would like to see, please leave a comment stating the request and “if” I have the ship, I will endeavor to do a video for that ship.

Nice build.. this is probably my favorite of your builds as it's the closest to how I build. Good to see you tackling Aux2Bat and I think you covered it rather well.

I do some things differently of course, personally.. I hate the Kinetic Cutting Beam and wouldn't slot it.. I also would like to see Emergency Power to Weapons slotted but that's less important in your build then mine since you're not using Emergency Weapon Cycle. I won't say anything about the trait from the $300 ship pack.. you covered that already. It's not essential to the overall build in any way and you slotted it as the 6th (extra) trait so it can be left out for those on a budget.

Overall, I think this is a great build for someone trying to put together an cheap and effective build and it's well done. Not exactly what I would do, but again that's the beauty of it for me.. I like seeing a different but still effective solution.

    Thanks for posting it.

I do like the ol' Galaxy X. I think the wide beam of the lance is stronger than the single target one. Maybe try to squeeze in the saucer separation console. Leech console got nerfed so not as great as it used to be. And w/ A2B you shouldn't really need it. Then you'd have your kinda zippy 'escort' ship like you said you like while also having the option of staying as the big cruiser.

Only other thing I'd mention is if you want to park, I 'd take Rally Point Marker for healing vs the artillery. I've never found artillery useful. Bombing between me and my target? You gotta target the farthest ship to get any use out of it, imo. If not, you are just bombing empty space.

Or maybe just toss in an Emergency Power to Aux 3 to refill it after A2B drains it, assuming you care about Aux power levels.

It isn't how I like to build this ship, but it is definitely a good build and not too expensive to achieve.

For me, those cannons on top are too obvious to not have firing. I tend to use the Disco rep wide bank as it works pretty well here and they give you that cannon pew pew look without actually using cannons. And I like more turn rate as well.

Thanks @seaofsorrows, I really appreciate the kind words! Regarding the Kinetic Cutting Beam, I freely admit that it is and will appear on like, 95% of my builds. I just love it. Plus as I said in the episode it's always handy to have on any build for the Kinetic Damage Endeavor. Anytime I get that one I always seem to complete it just through normal game play. But each to their own, ya know.

As for the trait that comes "from the $300 ship pack", this is one of the hardest things that I'm finding about this series to tell you the truth. To stick to the theme, being "budget" I would ideally like to just run with Starship Traits that come all of the various Specialization Trees as opposed to ones that come from Starships. But as you know, earning Specialization Points is not something that you can do in a couple of hours. So it's just one of those things that I will have to keep on pointing out in my episodes, that anyone following the series will have to use whatever is available to them.

Anyway, thanks again for trekking out my build. I really do appreciate your support!

Hey @duasyn, thank you so much for trekking out my build! You are absolutely right about the Plasmonic Leech getting nerfed, however that doesn't mean that it's useless. Believe me, if there was another consoles that would give more power I would use it. The Saucer Separation console can be fun for sure, it's not one that I'm very big on though.

As for the Artillery power, in my mind the best use for that power would be with someone with Grav Well and once everything is all grouped up, let that bad boy off and watch the popping. lol

Anyway, thanks again for trekking out my build and for commenting. I really appreciate your support!

Maybe Bio-neural gel pack console? Maybe not as much power as Leech does eventually, but has other buffs too.
    Base version gives:
    +2 Power to all subsystems
    +19.8 Starship Shield Capacity
+7% Cooldown reduction on Bridge officer Abilities

And is 'budget' since its a rep gear thing.

I'd like to see a T6 DHC build, no fleet or rep(still working on currency and building rep). As far as ship, any T6 ship that would perform well with this kind of build, Fed or any faction can use currently in Z-store. I'm looking for "entry level" that can be built upon. Captain is tactical.

    Hey @trendor77,

Thank you for trekking out my build and for commenting. Man, I have to tell ya that trying to do a build without any "fleet" or "rep" gear would be really hard and tying ones hands a lot! lol However, I can tell you that having a "good" skill tree, "good" Boff abilities is often a big part of the battle!

So if you're using one of my builds as a guide, lets say my Fleet Valiant [T6] as it's a DHC build, and following it as closely as you can (ignoring the fact that it's epic quality), so Boff abilities, skill tree, DHC's up front, etc. You should have a build that can carry it's own weight somewhat. Then when you do have access to fleet and rep gear, you can put the finishing touches on it and have a really good, effective build.
