Fleet Defiant with Stealth Fighter Set

theorictheoric Member Posts: 53 Arc User
Hi everyone,

I am tempted to run a Fleet Defiant with the Stealth Fighter Set is this worth it?
I have heard mixed reviews of the Quad Phaser Cannon, but with the right Phaser enhancement consoles nd BOFFS is this a viable build?
The battle cloak ability seems like a nice viable survival mechanic and DPS boost.

Any advise is appreciated

Thanks

Depends on what you mean by 'worth it.'

The set is Viable sure.. it's just not 'optimal' is the biggest complaint. The cloak for example requires you to sacrifice a precious console slot as to where traditionally, a Cloak is a 'free' ability that doesn't require sacrificing a console slot. If however, you really like the idea of flying a cloaking defiant.. then this is the only way it can be done. The Phaser Quad Cannons are good weapons, and the Warhead Module is an ok'ish enough console.

If you're asking if you can still get enough DPS out of this ship to shred any game content then the answer is yes.. absolutely you can. You'll just have to be a little more picky about your remaining console slots to try and maximize the build but yes.. it's very viable as a concept.
    Insert witty signature line here.

If you want the battlecloak for survivability, consider pairing it with the Concealed Repairs trait, which should be fairly cheap on the exchange. Just keep in mind it has a longer cooldown than your cloak. Ideally you wouldn't need it and use cloak just for the offensive bonuses, though.

I'll echo @seaofsorrows response, but add a few thoughts.

If you want Battle Cloak to use tactically for the bonus damage it gives you when dropping out of cloak (i.e. "vape" build), it's better to go with Romulan Warbirds which get it for free and don't cost you any precious console slots. But also bear in mind that at least on console, Battle Cloak can sometimes bug out where you won't be able to de-cloak. Furthermore, any weapons that were already firing on you or torpedoes that were already in flight toward you will continue to hit you for a few moments after you cloak, but with your shields down (your shields get shut off during cloak), it goes straight to your hull. I also think that DoTs can pull you back out of cloak (e.g. Borg Plasma weapons), but someone else will need to confirm that.

If you're set on using the Defiant class escort, and/or your intention for Battle Cloak is to use it as a "get out of danger" ability, there are better ways to accomplish that than with its consoled Battle Cloak, such as the Obfuscation Screen console from the Light Exploration Cruiser (Lobi Store or Exchange). This console basically makes you un-targetable while your ship repairs itself, and at the end of that period, you get a massive Cat2 damage buff (+120%) equal to the amount of time you spent Obfuscated (up to 20 seconds). While it's not Battle Cloak, it gets you out of trouble, heals you, then gives you a huge damage buff when you're done. If I was doing a TAC DPS build on a Defiant escort, that's what I'd use instead of Battle Cloak. There are other consoles that are similar in function in that they provide you a defensive ability to get out of trouble, such as the Voth Phase Decoy, but that one provides passive Cat1 damage bonus to Anti-Proton weaponry, so I'd only use it if you're running AP weapons.

    Hope that helps.
