Right after the most expensive C-Store pack ever, a lobi sale, a global ship sale and another infinity pack promo... all in one month and the latter ended just 3 days ago. And that's not including the lifetime promo just a little bit more than 1 month ago.
Does the marketing team even know the word "timing"?
hard not to hear the "games dyin" people in the back of your head with the sheer level of SPEND MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY NOOOOW!! thats been slamming the game over the last month or so
I don't think anyone's calling Doom per se. There has been an enormous cash-grab going on of late, though. First the fidget spinner, then the mega Legendary pack, and now yet another R&D ship (and what seems like a possible prelude to scuttling the Lobi store ships). So, if not outright a matter of dying, ere one of persistent exclusion, where only the super-wealthy can keep up.
And yeah, I know, everything can be done with a single green Mk XII wep; still, it sure sucks the fun out of things a bit; and this is not exactly what I would call making things 'more accessible.' So, I'd say it's at least worth a sigh or two.
I half wonder if it will be a Mudd's Market thing.
If it really is another Promo ship again so soon after trying to sucker people with the Promo sale we JUST had... Marketing is really trying to burn the bridge from both ends with this one. (I'm not sure who's pushing the latest business decisions, but there is a growing discontentment within the customer-base because of it.)
As for the ship itself.. Not particularly interested. Looks like something designed to be flashy/gimmicky instead of useful or mechanically interesting. I only have one character I'd consider using it with for the aesthetics, and it'd have to surpass the Silik(in function) to do so - which I highly doubt.

An holographic AI based on a con-man (and also mass murderer and psychopath) selling a top secret S31 ship filled to the brim with drone ships that can only be destroyed by a duo of fighters knowing where to shoot and that almost started a series of events that would have destroyed all life in the galaxy?

If I was a financial higher-up, for me, that'd actually raise more questions about the viability of a product or at least the efficiency of its marketing team if I saw the team behind it had to cram 4-5 promos in one month before said deadline instead of managing to do that in a span of several ones.
Prolly best route is infinity pack so will be 1-1.5B

They are the drones. You see they make up the 'hull' of the ship and it looks skeletal after they launch.
I'd imagine they're all one or possibly up to four pets just with diffused models.

The first time I saw this design in DISCO, I immediately thought that Star Trek Online was actually influencing their show. Instead of the other way around?
The Eclipse-class was announced in late 2014. And, coincidentally, is an Intelligence-themed starship. Years before Discovery was actually made for CBS All-Access.

To many small objects if these are pets which are constantly there I feel like it will render enemies invisible like a single mine boat. The graphic engine is utterly TRIBBLE and can't handle it so i don't know why bring stuff like this out. They know very well to many objects make stuff invisible cause well utterly TRIBBLE and so....
C-Store Inc. is still looking for active members on the fed side. If you don't have a fleet feel free to contact me in game @stegi.

I wondered the same thing. Now granted, it's not unthinkable they just ended up looking similar due to both drawing from the standard "stealth fighter" style, but since the Section 31 ships weren't introduced until S2 (or at lease that four-nacelle design, I can't recall if the two-nacelle type showed up earlier or not), and since we know CBS worked closely with Cryptic when bringing in the DSC stuff... I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility STO's Intel ships inspired the Section 31 designs.

I meant gameplay wise. I don't think they are hangar pets, but more like a transformation mode where this cloud fx is around the ship granting boni. Maybe it's a separation pet and they rework that mechanic.

It's a transformation mode that also has a conditional pet launch.
So the February 26th tweet was just the announcement of the annoucement.. I thought it would be added today. Oh well.
I wonder how these "peeled off" pets work. Will they attack the enemy for a while and disappear or stay in the fight till destroyed. And how many "waves" will there be? From the text it sounds like you won't be able to assign a target or control them.
Doesn't matter. If you got a Choice Box from that Promotion, you can select the new Ship from it after it is introduced. If people went ahead and picked something already, then they got what they wanted or they were impatient.
I have three Choice Boxes in Inventory, one coming from the very first R&D Infinity Promotion. In fact, it is a Character Bound Box in my Account Bank.

I got a grand to spend, I cant wait... but not on cryptic, they just shaft their players. If I had to choose between spending it on STO or burning it, I'd burn it.
Until Cryptic fixes the bugs and the huge lag problem, i refuse to give them a single cent. A company that charges hundreds of dollars but can't even give a stable bugfree game (or at least doesn't have bugs that are years and years old), doesn't deserve my money.
Also when coming back after 2 years not playing STO, spending $30 and getting hit immediately with a 7 day account probation.
This shows very little respect from cryptic towards their playerbase and, this is another reason to not spend any single cent on this game.
A somewhat errant thought; but with access to Suppression Barrage 3, Ionic Turbulence and Gravity Well, this ship could be built into a pretty mean Interdictor. It's a shame it only has the 2 Sci Console slots, but it has some potential to stop things dead in their space-tracks while heavily neutering their offensive and defensive capabilities. I could actually see it locking things down in a CSV hail of D(H)C death.

We need to stop Section 31 from infecting the rest of Starfleet!
Quite. We got enough bad guys skulking about as is.
I'll be curious to see how the drones work, whether it would be like a hanger system or something automated like the swarmers.
I wondered the same thing. Dear Q, please change the constant for us and let it be an event ship! *fingers crossed*
4 days after the end of the infinity promo, again a new one; cryptic needs desperately money.
I honestly think last weekends promo was an unplanned, oh TRIBBLE kinda thing in response to the XP event being screwed up.
