When is a Dreadnought not a Dreadnought?

ilithynilithyn Member Posts: 903 Arc User
Answer: Apparently when it's klingon.

Today I have the "kill 3 dreadnoughts" endeavor and I was doing some rTFOs for dil. I land in Battle of Binary Stars and sees that it has klingon dreadnoughts in it (been a long time since I played btw). Sweet, some dil, marks and an endeavor down I think.
But no. The dreadnoughts do apparently not count in spite of being called dreadnoughts.

So out of interest, why not? And what ships are actually dreadnoughts in this game. I guess they're called, well anything but dreadnought for you know, ease of understanding.

Did you happen to notice if they had the 4 gold rank bars?

This was brought up in the past, but yes, the BoBS KDF ships have the name dreadnoughts but not the actual rank, stats or hit points of one. Best bets for that are the Tactical cubes etc. in Hive Onslaught, I think ISA has 2 (the tac cube and the gate), Dranuur Gauntlet can spawn numerous ones, the Planet Killers at the end of the Undine Battlezone, I think there might be some at the end of the Voth side of the Battlezone as well. Normally I just use Onslaught and ISE.

The two or three Voth Dreadnoughts that show up so they can splinter apart in the Undine Battlezone Voth Counterattack Phase do count. I have seen the Planet Killers not count. The Tethys that show up in the Undine BZ if you have a few people at a capture point do count.

You get two in ISN as well.

Thanks for the tip. Ended up in a Borg Disconnected and can report that the three big ships at the end is indeed dreadnoughts according to game mechanics. So I may do that one from now on when I have the 'kill 3 dreadnoughts' from now on.
Since Voth is a ground BZ I doubt the dinos at the end counts as dreadnought, but I do believe they count as captains for the ground version of this endeavor. I vaguely recall going there when I had that one back when I last played in earnest which is something like nine months ago.

No idea. But why name something "dreadnought" when it isn't? It's bad enough that the actual dreadnoughts are rarely named thus but why in the name of all that is sane would you then go and name something that's not a dreadnought 'dreadnought' on top of that? Sometimes it genuinely feel like they try to do the most to confuse the players.
I'd let them off the hook if BoBS was a pre-endeavor TFO because it might be too much of an onus to go back and change older stuff, so while annoying, okay then. But it's not!
    Just... why?

You can also run Step Between Stars or Surface Tension for Tethys dreadnoughts.

The ones that don't count are really Dreadnought Cruisers that have had their names deceptively truncated. They should be renamed. It shouldn't be up to the players to double check the status window indicators, assuming that they even know to do that.

Voth Citadels (Contested Zone) count, and are very easy to defeat. The boss ships at the end of Conch'ra (sp?) Lukari BZ, count as dreads too.

I used to 'dread' the endeavors that said to kill 3 of those, but it's become super-easy now.

Hive Onslaught is the best for that one.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

It's definitely good, though a little luck on your instance and the Undine Battlezone is probably just as fast and rewarding. You'll probably have a few show up while dealing with the Planet Killers, as well as at least a couple more Voth ones during the bonus shooting gallery phase. As noted above, the Planet Killers themselves don't count because they're actually 5 pips and some other designation

The Voth Citatels that spawn in the Contested Zone of the Solanae Dyson Sphere are my go-to. Easy to kill, like you said, and fairly easy to get to spawn.

I fondly miss the times when it required 18.

Badlands Battlezone is probably my favorite for that endeavor. You can easily knock it out a single point with enough people.

I always do Borg Disconnected or Counterpoint. You are guaranteed to run into exactly 3 dreads

I also like it when things aren't any more difficult, just more time-consuming. These things that are supposed to be done in a day should take over an hour each.

Borg gateways count as dreadnoughts. If I get that endeavour I usually just do a round each of Infected Space and Khitomer Space.

Hur'q swarms are also dreadnoughts in the various Gamma scenarios they are in, and those take 5 minutes at most. They obviously aren't in every scenario, though.
