Special Requisition Choice Pack - Tier 6 Promotional Ship Choice Pack

Brand new player, and I reach level 11 on first character. Perfect day for Free Infinity Duty Officer packs, but I get a Free Tier 6 Promotional Ship Choice Pack in the mix.

I am distraught by indecision and my life is ruined.

I don't have the self control to sit on this while I level up and I'm bent on using it while levelling. I'm looking at experimenting with science builds and am leaning towards space mage but I'm open to change my mind.

I'm attracted to the Krenim Annorax due to its flexibility to experiment, but like the noob that I am I like the fact that no one appears to know what to do with a Vulcan Experimental Scout Vessel.

Can someone with more experience caution me about the mistakes I'm walking into? Are both of these viable? Does one of these have a serious flaw that I need to consider, or am I unfairly ignoring another good science ship for someone who doesn't quite know what he wants to do?

You're my only hope.

Arguably one of the best sci ships from the promo box is the mirror Crossfield. It's a sci/escort hybrid and has a mode switch that gives you either the full abilities of an escort or sci ship though that 4/3 weapon layout always stays.

As for other things, really depends on what you actuall enjoy to fly. Like makes no sense to pick an Annorax or Juggernaut when you hate slow ships.

The krenim is a far better ship then the crossfeild, better ship better trait better layout, but if that's the case the jelly fish would be better then both as a science platform from a build stand point and trait just not as hearty and not prone to a beating with out a specilized defense and restore type build.

But i would choose the flight deck connie over all these ships. It packs a better punch and a better overall ship in my experience.

Those would be my first three ships; the flight deck, the Vaad,or the Tzen then i would move to the light cruiser, jellyfish, krenim, heavy connie then the jem ships, then the crossfeild so on and so forth.

But it comes down to what you are looking for in a ship. I always go for pure overwhelming power then everything else falls into place.

but science wise the Krenim is superior to the crossfeild and the jelly fish is superior to the krenim. The crossfeild acts feels and seems like a gimmick in my experience with both ships. The krenim is an actual science war platform that can build a good foundation for a players game play. But again... look at the jellyfish long and hard then make a choice
Even god rested. No work ethic.

Personally I had the same problem, I got a random Promo pack from the giveaway stuff and lots of fretting over which ship to get. What I did was go onto tribble to test out a few different ships. Ultimately I got the Son'a collector ship myself.

See if you can get into the Tribble test server. I know in the past you had to have a sub to get in there, but I'm not sure these days.

Hopefully this info works for you still. https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1119247/noob-guide-to-tribble

If you can get into tribble, you will be able to copy your character from the live server as many times as you care to. This then lets you test out every ship from the pack you want to test out.

However, if you really are a noob to the game, I actually suggest you play the game, get up to 65, work on reputations, play with different ships to see if you can figure out a playstyle you like. Science ships are very much a different animal. I'd say just sit on that box for now. It isn't likely you'll get a second chance to get one of those ships any time soon, unless you have a lot of money to dispense with. You're absolutely not going to get any good feel for the ships at level 11.

Also don't choose until after the Legacy ship pack comes out, which should be Feb 13. Rumors suggest there may actually be the 2 promo Constitution class ships in that pack, though I doubt that, it would be wise to hold off from getting one from a promo pack if you are at all interested in that big overpriced ship pack.

You will regret if you use that pack and choose a ship without knowing what type of ship you like. Do not use the pack until you know what kind of play style you like. That pack is really rare and you have to be really lucky to get it again. Alternative later you can choose a ship and sell it for lots of ec. However make sure you increase the ec credit cap first or you will lose all of the ec above the cap. Increases cap from 15 million EC to 2 billion EC. Some promo ships are selling for 1 billion + ec. I billion ec can get you 2 good T6 ships on the exchange.

Look under types and you can see all kinds of ships for different play style.

    This!

If you don't know yet what you like, don't open the pack.

First off, thanks everyone for your input. I can confirm I've learned something from each post.

Secondly, all of you flatter my self control.

If that's the case then, get the Discovery Constitution class.

Even if you end up not liking it, at least other players will be jealous.

    .

Emphasis added - this, for crying out loud, this.

ESPECIALLY if you can't be patient!

Tribble allows you to scratch the itch without losing one of the best - most likely, the best - investment opportunities you will get in STO. Budget several hundred US dollars just to stand a chance of being where you are now again, because that is how much it will likely cost to get there again. Whatever ship you pick, you need to know you really want it - most players will only dream of being in your position, and if you decide you don't want these ships, the proceeds of selling this pack are potentially enough EC to set you up for the remaining lifespan of the game.

The only way to be sure is Tribble testing - thorough testing, make sure you go to Drozana Station, and the console on the far side of the bar once in Tribble, that way you can use all of the goodies to give yourself a much more realistic test of the ships.
