Multiple player ships with same name

crioijoulscrioijouls Member Posts: 141 Arc User
For the purposes of this explanation, I am going to use the name and registry of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 et al. I fully realize that this is not a ship name or registry that a player can choose for his/her own ships.

An idea that I'd love to see, especially for those who engage in role-playing within the game, would be the ability to have more than one ship with the same exact name. I say this as in the shows/movies, you may see a ship (like the Enterprise) get destroyed, and then later encounter a new one, with a letter extension, or next-up letter extension on the registry, ie NCC-1701 > NCC-1701-A, or NCC-1701-D > NCC-1701-E.

Doing that registry thing isn't a problem, as you can have several different ships with the registry being the same, but you can't keep the same ship name, exactly, unless you play with the case of the letters.

Currently, you can have a refit Constitution-class ship USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A, but if you want the refit Excelsior-class USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B, you have to do something like "ENterprise" or something along that line of changing a case of an additional letter in the name. You can't have "Enterprise" (exact same case) for a second ship if you already have one with that name, I don't think.

Is there any way we can be able to have the same case for more than one ship, as it does get inconvenient to play with letter cases when you want to have multiple ships of the same name on a character?

    When you are going to move to a new ship, just rename the old one first:

    Enterprise => EnterpriseA

    Enterprise-A is far better to look at.

    Yes, you can actually. It's tied to the registry. For example, as a KDF player, I can have a ship named IKS Jusron d'Tirikov(Wrath of Tirikov), one named RRW Jusron d'Tirikov, AKS Jusron d'Tirikov, and a ship with a blank registry(such as an event ship) named Jusron d'Tirikov, all at the same time, with the same spelling, in my ship dock and/or drydock. Currently I have a Fleet T6 Kurak and a Rezreth that share this Jusron d'Tirikov name.

    My ship, the U.s.s. Bradbury, is currently at D letter as i was increasing levels, you have to rename the old one, then, if you want to keep it, put it in drydock, and you can rename the new one. Also, you can be more creative and use your own naming, intead of an already known ship, it's your ship, your names!, dont copy, create! :smiley:

    I did this. That's why my Jem'hadar is the most honest name for STO.

    I had a USS Britador, USS Britador A, USS Britador B, USS Britador C and a USS Birtador D all at the same time, with the same registry, active and ready to use when ever I wanted. Now I only have the first, the A and the B. I had to get rid of the others to make way for newer ships (which I wanted different names on). So not really that hard to have.

    Of course you can do it that way, but you shouldn't have to.

    Picard's Enterprise was not called the 'USS Enterprise D' it had the exact same name and the difference was denoted solely by the registry number.. a system that the game does not currently allow. All versions of the Enterprise were called the 'USS Enterprise,' they were denoted by their registry numbers. It would be nice if we could use the same system.

    I 100% agree that the game should allow you to have multiple ships with the same name as long as the registry number is different. I currently use the suggested method, I just rename the inactive ship so that I can have the name on the current ship but it's one of those petty things that just kind of annoys me.

    Is it a huge, game breaking emergency patch issue? Of course not.. but it would be a nice little change that I would love to see.

    Not agreeing with someone doesn't give you the right to be an TRIBBLE.

    Ci sono tre tipi di giocatori:
    - quelli a cui non va mai bene niente... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
    - quelli che sono talmente imbesuiti da credere a qualunque cosa i dev dicano, perfino che la luna è fatta di formaggio... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
    - quelli che credono a quello a cui è giusto credere, sono d'accordo con quello con cui è giusto essere d'accordo e sono critici con quello che non va;

    Ai giocatori dei primi due tipi, gratis in omaggio un bello specchio lucente su cui arrampicarsi. E una mazzata in testa per la loro poca intelligenza e compassione verso gli altri giocatori che non la pensano come loro.
    Agli appartenenti al terzo tipo, invece, dico grazie. Anche se non sempre si riesce a mantenere la calma, siete quelli per cui vale la pena incazzarsi.

    The game should allow for this but it doesn't. I have multiple ships with the name U.S.S. Resolution. When not in use, they are named Resolution-A or B, C, D or whatever. BUT, when I actually fly them, I remove the A, B, C, etc and voila. Only costs 3,000 EC to do.
    When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

    Strictly speaking you wouldn't have more than one ship with the same name in active service at the same time.

    Of course, the game does a lot of things which wouldn't happen "strictly speaking".

    Although I wouldn't get benefit from this (Iname all my ships differently, and for me, finding a new name is part of the fun), others would, so I'd support it.

    I play on PS4 and Iwas dissapoined to find out that I can't use the same name for all my ships unless I want to show U.S.S. "XYZ" A, U.S.S. "XYZ" B, U.S.S. "XYZ" C etc. on the character selection screen, in the ship list at the ship manager officer (Manage Ships) on ESD, and in the Reticles.

    @trekonlinegame - These are Only ideas‬
    ‪Ships‬
    ‪1. List ship by Registry Number in menus‬ etc.
    ‪2. A‬low characters to use the same name for 27 of their ships
    3. Keep allowing the same registry number to be used, but force a letter after the number if the registry number has already been used. (Example: USS Star for all ships, NCC-1701 first ship only, NCC-1701-A thru Z for all other ships)

    In the ship list you would see
    NCC-1701
    NCC-1701-A
    NCC-1701-B
    and so on

    Thank you for time.

    The game can't list ships by registry numbers, because non-Fed ships don't have registry numbers at all.

    And I certainly wouldn't want to have my ship list look like:
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
    USS Whatever
