I'd have to agree with you on this, and it's come up every year since they first tried to settle there!

I really hope they've updated the map to better quality visuals this year.......and for the ability to stick some REAL decorations and Christmas trees in my Starbase. (Yes, yes, I love this time of year! )

what does berserker build have to do with Q's winter wonderland?

I made a joke about last year's Fek'iri ship, and it raged wildly out of control. o:)

If that's a reference to the band, they don't have an H or an E in their name.

As mentioned, it's one of the Chaos gods in Warhammer 40K. And last year's ship, in a red/brass color scheme, really fits the style. (and they have "berserker" space marine infantry, with lots of spikes, skulls, and chainswords/axes.)

And now, back to our regularly scheduled STO thread... :D

It's possible that Q is making duplicates of real places and things. He's done it before.

You seem very sure about the nature of reality. Are you sure you're not a gingerbread man who has been brainwashed by Q into thinking he is a human?

Back in my tabletop heyday I looked at 40k, for a few minutes, went with Rifts and the Palladium Megaversal Game System, no regrets. My secondary games were DC Heroes, Traveller, GURPS, and D&D. Never did get into wargaming.

I never played Warhammer. I read a few of the novels and a large chunk of the wiki(because the novels don't have enough backstory).

If anything there's too much back story, it's just that they expect you to have read all the preceding novel's to understand the current novel, which doesn't make it very accessible to new readers.

Personally I prefer the 'old world' setting of Warhammer, which has some excellent trilogy's (such as the witchfinder trilogy) which is excellently written, and does not assume that you have prior knowledge of the Warhammer universe.

Eh, I just played the various Warhammer tabletop games (~1987 thru early 00's), I never bothered with their novels. There were enough short stories & fluff included in the various rulebooks.

Never read many Star Trek novels, either, now that I think about it.

Some of the 40k novels are expanded lore, others random stories. The random stories sometimes feel like the sort of thing you could do a 4k campaign based on.

One of them was about a weird planet cursed by Tzeench. It had a bubble around it to make it so ships couldn't leave. It was also just close enough to Imperial space that it'd periodically have Imperial ships scan it for signs of Warp Corruption. It had loads of that, millions of Tzeench cultists, literally. Ships would show up, try to bomb the corrupted people to oblivion, but always run out of ammo before they could get the job done, and then realize they can't leave. Note how I said "corrupted people", and not cultists. Often the new arrivals would spend more time blowing up the "heretics" living in the cannibalized hulk of the previous ship to get stuck there. Why? Because Tzeench made sure his cultists never ran out of babies or food, and the Marines quickly ran out of both and had to resort to living off the land. Also Tzeench cultists are notoriously easy to persuade to "betray" their dark master. Really they just lie and say they're changing sides. So... the crews of the Imperial ships would inevitably end up eating local food and mating with local women, thus becoming corrupted by the taint of Chaos just enough that they deserved to be called heretics.

Keep in mind this is the 10th anniversary event coming up and you only get one chance to do a 10th anniversary right. Not many MMOs out there get to have a 10th anniversary. So if it is shortened then my money is on the 10th anniversary being the reason. They've been hyping this 10th anniversary event for some time now, for that matter pretty much since last anniversary event. The in-game calendar, especially the tribble one, isn't always the most reliable for exact dates and information and is hit or miss on that point. It can give us ideas of what's coming such as folks who knew about this Breach event beforehand because it leaked on Tribble. However I've seen several times where the in-game calendar shows nothing at all going on and there could be multiple events up at once. Until blogs start dropping and announcements are made, or an official comment is given from someone at Cryptic, the only thing we can do is speculate.
You mean let’s get the hype started? Yehaaaaaaa! B)

*god just think about all those disappointed faces when they find out that Cryptic has us play Days of Doom 14 times in a row to celebrate STO’s 10th anniversary* :p
    Could be worse.

Imagine having to play Battle of Procyon V 14 times in a row ;)
Lol yep Risian, that would be kinda 14 times 3 as bad. :D

    Happy 10th Anniversary STO. :'(
I thought you guys liked missions where you have to actually do stuff and the mission doesn't complete itself for you. :p

You are right! Having good players close 3 times 6 rifts in a row happily asking for more is exactly the expectation bad players of this title possess.

Too bad PvE rewards are the same for every player in team, only reason this mentality works. :D

To be honest, my interest in the Winter Wonderland drops off after Christmas anyway.

I'm not sure that's completely accurate. I play it the entire season long because it's a lot of fun. There are times where I will join a group of people I've never met before, and we will defend the frothy wasteland from the evil snow borg and its queen. And I will do it right up until the moment they don't let me do it any longer.
Well, was only talking from an entirely personal viewpoint.

Daft as it may sound, the 'atmosphere' of it is what keeps me visiting in the leadup to Christmas. After Christmas has passed I don't really 'feel' it this.

Plus, have to say - and again, it' a silly nitpick, I know - Krampus telling me I'd been "naughty this year" on January 1st, when the year was all of 5 seconds old did make me roll my eyes ;)
The ship is the only thing that gets me into Wonderland at all anymore. The last time I did any of the farming sidequests was when the ice fishing was new, and even then only to try it once or twice.

Again, I actually love the 'atmosphere' of the place, although enjoy it more pre-Christmas for some reason. I tend to lose interest after Christmas, although that's an entirely personal thing.

Actually enjoy most of the content within the map too, with the exception of 'The Fast and The Flurrious' - as I've always felt that the course would be FAR better suited to being a snowboard/ski track (along the same vein as the Risa powerboards).

Though, much like with the Summer event, the whole thing becomes noticably less busy as more and more people obtain the free ship.

I just hope they leave 'The Fastest Game on Ice' as the qualifying event.

It's fast and easy.. I just leave one character parked in Winter Wonderland and I'm done in under 2min per day tops.

In other words... you want the devs to give you extra TFO rewards for being able to do more DPS than is required? You hate Battle of Procyon 5 because it requires you to do something other than spamming DPS macros. Your ideal mission would be like the version of Crystalline Entity where it was possible for you to kill the CE before the other players had even loaded into the map?

Are you one of those people who hates Voth because they can kill you with your own DPS?

As I recall of the various theads on the subject, the most common complaint against Procyon 5 is that you have to repeat it three times.

I myself don't mind that that much. Sure, the "timeline changes" could do something more interesting than just spawn more rubber ducks to shoot, but it's a basically good mission with a unique premise and no auto-win. I'd certainly rather have it in an event than the current version of Breach or that infamous other rift-closing mission, Mirror Invasion.

For me P5 loses out on the same point all non-event queues do...there's no reason to play it.

Well, the enemies change each wave. You have a mix of Sphere Builders, Na'kuhl, and Krenim in the last wave. Wave 1 only has one of those.

But yeah, it's just another rep queue for the most part. If you don't need that type of rep mark why bother?

Procyon 5 is one of my favorite TFOs. I'll play it just to play it, event or no event is irrelevant to me. I also very much love MI, and full Breach, and I flatly refuse to AFK in ANY TFO.
