5 whole days spare time to finish an event that takes 5 minutes a day to play and zero prep is not "harsh."

Harsh would be making up for missed days by waking up in the middle of the night to run event content on 20h intervals. There are games that run events like that. And more.

This really sucks. It's great to have a free ship or anything free if you do a number of X days for it.
However, why shorten the event for 2 weeks? The summer event wasn't too bad in terms of length period and why not take that same model for any festive grind?

I really hope this is a mistake. Most peeps do come back to STO just for the summer/winter events and would discourage people from logging to STO during the holidays.

Current theory is a much bigger Anniversary Event since we are comming up on 10 years of STO.

As for the Winter Wonderland... I mostly do the ship run, then just hang out. Maybe do one of the side things here and there, but mostly just enjoy the scenery and... miss my old "Hot Chocolate Hangout" over by the lake that is now a tower for snowmen hanging out watching the ice fishing.

Also I kinda wish the lake was bigger for more ice skating fun.

    If they don't change the requirements and rewards then going from at least 15 spare days to 5 is harsh, considering most 21 day run events have 7 spare days. I'll see what Kael says on the livestream, but as I said, there's no real excuse to cut it short, even if it's to funnel people to the Anniversary Event, because folk are still going to spend as little time as possible getting the shinies from it. QWW is a great map to hang about on.....and yes, I wish it was permanently available to visit. :lol;

well, I think they probably are changing the method to get the anniversary ship as well. In other words, no big bonus for doing a story mission the first time. Probably just a similar grind to what we have seen with the new events so far.

I'm highly skeptical that they will be introducing a new type of event for the anniversary - and even more skeptical that it will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete.

I literally have 17 stacks of the Winter Ornaments in my Shared Bank. I don't need to spend much of them either as the cost in these Winter Ornaments for anything is substantially cheaper then the Summer Event.

They cut down the Progress Coupons needed for these Mega-Events by 30%, from 3,000 to 2,100. So using that as a basis we would need 720 Winter Vouchers to complete, or 18 days, keeping the same 40 Daily Vouchers. Now you have 12 days cushion (you know like the Twelve Days of Christmas).

    This is so disappointing.

I spend a lot of time doing "holiday" everyday.... and NOT on my computer.
I mean... between decorating and shopping and cooking and cleaning up afterwards...
I liked having that cushion of extra days to play WW and finish events.

Lets not freak out just yet.. it's possible that with the reduced length, that they have also reduced the amount of favors required.

    or have a buyout

Maybe people should just wait for more information before getting the tin foil hats and pitch forks... -_-

I'd personally prefer to hear a legit reason from the source than assume conspiracy theories in the Negative direction all the time. Lets just see what we get from the livestream before people go off the rails demanding blood.

And for the record... I'm not targeting anyone in particular, I'm just tired of seeing the same thing every time we see something change before we get any official info.

How about dwelling on positive conspiracy theories?

There's no guarantee the calendar is right, and there may be a few pleasant surprises in store for the 10th anniversary.

In fairness to the demented conspiracy nutters ;) , many changes over the last year or two have been nerfs to farming dil and marks.

The changes have often improved life for those who don't farm, making it easier to earn small amounts of dil and to complete events, while taking away or cutting back rewards from 10+-alt grinding.

Since I'm too lazy and well-employed to farm I've been happy with those changes, but those trying to live the 100% free to play life and still visit the zen store have been less pleased and might now be conditioned to hate and fear all change.

After having a peak at the Calendar in-game, I saw the Q's WW was on it, but my excitement was quickly turned sour as I noticed that they have cut nearly 2 weeks off the event! Last year it was 4th Dec-15th Jan, and this year it's 3rd Dec-2nd Jan. It's not often I'm left astounded and dumbstruck, but my jaw fell off too! Bad form Cryptic....Bad form! This means we have ONLY 5 days or so spare to cover any missed days rather than the usual 15.

@ambassadorkael#6946 Have you turned into Scrooge!?

I could also see this happening to make the process of 'buying-out" more enticing, but initial communication of information isn't always Cryptic's strong suit so let us wait & see. I'm like a few here that have already posted. Let us hope that if something is being taken away from the Q's Winter Wonderland it is for the 10th Anniversary Event since that is a really nice accomplishment. Either way waiting with fingers crossed.

Days of doom isn't that bad, as long as you don't look at the grain effect on screen, mute the audio to avoid the awful mock scots or mind flying vast distances for reasons of timepadding.

If it's not the 10th anniversary (never get hyped for anything until you see it actually in game, any game) then it's more likely just bad info, like the trans tactics universal endeavour that clearly points you to the TFO queues instead of the actual place on nukara.

Yeah, my Federation characters especially love the part where we do a home invasion against the indigenous sapient species on behalf of a hostile invading force to murder him and steal his holiday stuff, because that's the sort of thing that Federation officers do!

I just like using my snowball guns, gumdrop blasters and animated gingerbread/yeti.
And getting rid of that army of angry snowmen in the back forty.

If the event was shortened, it seems like a good likelihood the time required to earn the ship is also shortened.

So, instead of 44 days to earn a 25 daily run ship, it might be more like 30 days to earn a 14 daily run ship. We simply do not have all of the information yet.

Perhaps wait for more details before wasting those tasty tears.

The bigger impact will be on the umpteen currencies needed to get stuff, although if its like this summer there'll not be any new modules or manuals which will take the sting out of some of it.

I dont see winter as a problem since you can get those doing doffing... summer to me is a killjoy. new skills, mods and emotes are per character from 600 to 1k each... I just stopped. do the floaty for the ship and bail.

One thing is I have to take all my new characters through to pick up their outfits and tac boffs their cryo torpedo launcher skill.
  • I've never been overly fond of QWW, iirc it came out about the same time as the Romulan rep and logging in and grinding all those Romulan marks on multiple characters and doing the event at the same time was brutal. Bring back Mine Trap!

That doesn't make any sense. 44 and 30 both > 25. Still more than enough time to run the daily for the ship.

It does make sense. Cryptic has always been very generous with extra time for events, except the old weekend ones where you needed 3 days out of 4.

21 days for 14 day events, 44 days for 25-day winter event.

If they really are shortening the total days for the winter event, odds are good that they are shortening the number of required days for it too.

Ships have been account-wide unlocks since the 2014-15 winter season. This is year 6 of only needing one character to do it, it's time to let the ancient past go.
