After having a peak at the Calendar in-game, I saw the Q's WW was on it, but my excitement was quickly turned sour as I noticed that they have cut nearly 2 weeks off the event! Last year it was 4th Dec-15th Jan, and this year it's 3rd Dec-2nd Jan. It's not often I'm left astounded and dumbstruck, but my jaw fell off too! Bad form Cryptic....Bad form! This means we have ONLY 5 days or so spare to cover any missed days rather than the usual 15.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
They've probably cut it short because they intend to have an extended 10th Anniversary Event.

Lets not freak out just yet.. it's possible that with the reduced length, that they have also reduced the amount of favors required.
Agreed.
We should also note that after the event is *right* before the event by now. We always have event at any time basicaly. It's always event time!!! Now if one event is a bit shorter than the next event which is then longer so that the event after...
Gah! Forget it, what I want to tell is it does not matter that much cuz it is event time aynway.

I really hope this is just a bug. Wonderland is my favorite event and I love spending my time in the map. Just about the only Christmas themed thing I get to do on the holiday.
Keep in mind this is the 10th anniversary event coming up and you only get one chance to do a 10th anniversary right. Not many MMOs out there get to have a 10th anniversary. So if it is shortened then my money is on the 10th anniversary being the reason. They've been hyping this 10th anniversary event for some time now, for that matter pretty much since last anniversary event. The in-game calendar, especially the tribble one, isn't always the most reliable for exact dates and information and is hit or miss on that point. It can give us ideas of what's coming such as folks who knew about this Breach event beforehand because it leaked on Tribble. However I've seen several times where the in-game calendar shows nothing at all going on and there could be multiple events up at once. Until blogs start dropping and announcements are made, or an official comment is given from someone at Cryptic, the only thing we can do is speculate.

Not that hyped about QWW anymore anyways after all that years. I usually just do the daily ice skate. If the really shortened it in favour of a gigantic 10th anniversary event I'm quite happy about that

I mean if they want me to slam my head into a desk repeatedly sure. Plus the last time the crew and myself went in there, let's just say it resulted in paperwork, lots and lots of paperwork. By that I mean the kind of paperwork where someone hears the boom in the server room, sees the smoke, and the sound of cold brewskies being opened fills the studio as they draw lots to see who's going to put the fire out this time. All of this before they get the paperwork from me saying I broke it lols. So for their own sanity they might not want to do that if you catch my drift

To be honest, my interest in the Winter Wonderland drops off after Christmas anyway.
I'm not sure that's completely accurate. I play it the entire season long because it's a lot of fun. There are times where I will join a group of people I've never met before, and we will defend the frothy wasteland from the evil snow borg and its queen. And I will do it right up until the moment they don't let me do it any longer.

Sadly I think this might be accurate. Most likely they will allow additional methods to get event ship tokens - lessening the amount of times you must do the race - down to 20 days or maybe even less.
Q's is my second favorite event in all gamedom. Cutting it to 30 days stinks. Especially for epohhs. My main thing over the past few years has been the pvp race and raising epohhs. I probably won't bother with it anymore. Just take in the sights and do the ship race.
As for the anniversary. I don't give a rats derriere about it. Each year I went wild with the omega farming. But I mean I'm kind of done upgrading and the phoenix upgrades are good enough anyway. Probably there will be a somewhat better ship this year. I can't see any reason we need more than 30 days for that. Much rather have the 2 weeks more in Q's.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
To those that think I'm over hyping it, I remember that Kael said on last week's livestream that it would end on the 2nd Jan, however, he did not give a start date so there was a presumption it would start a little earlier.
I saw this calendar entry about 3 - 4 days ago. Not concerned, i am sure we will get information in the next 2 weeks detailing about the Winter event.
No need to panic. Also OP you really went for the tin foil hat there didnt you? Alot of leaps with no substanial evidence to backup your claim.
I'm NOT and never have been a tin-foil hat person, and there is evidence.....so nerr

I can only tolerate the particle hunt thing so long before I have to go do something else to avoid a headache. Last year I did not bother with the anniversary stuff at all except for the minimum needed to get the ship.
I would much rather do the full length winter wonderland than an extended anniversary event unless they have something really spectacular in FTFOs planned for it or something similar that does not involve mind-numbing, eye wrenching minigames like the particle thing.
Plus, have to say - and again, it' a silly nitpick, I know - Krampus telling me I'd been "naughty this year" on January 1st, when the year was all of 5 seconds old did make me roll my eyes
Or you did some really, really naughty things in those first 5 seconds.

Well, was only talking from an entirely personal viewpoint.
Daft as it may sound, the 'atmosphere' of it is what keeps me visiting in the leadup to Christmas. After Christmas has passed I don't really 'feel' it this.

The ship is the only thing that gets me into Wonderland at all anymore. The last time I did any of the farming sidequests was when the ice fishing was new, and even then only to try it once or twice.

If this is the sort of thing that upsets you so much, might I suggest it might be time for you to take a break from the fantasy world?
Never taken a break in the 8 or so years I've played my friend, and I don't plan too. However, there's nothing preventing them from running events at the same time. If they alter the amount rewarded for the ship, fair enough, but QWW is a popular event and cutting two weeks off it seems rather harsh for the metrics considering the cut-off date is smack-bang in the latter end of the Christmas holiday period, and that's irrespective of IF they start the Anniversary event three weeks earlier than normal.

So much time travel in STO, I'd not assume you only get 1 chance...
