Consoles will get a T6 Phoenix box ship

Just saw a message on the welcome screen announcing that the T6 coupon event for consoles will allow us to win an account unlocked Phoenix box ship instead of cstore.

I guess they figured a way to get account unlocks going for the phoenix box.

If that's truly what it indicates, it's good news.

I grabbed a screenshot to confirm, instead of a cstore coupon consoles will unlock a phoenix pack ship account wide.

To be honest I'm of mixed feelings on this...on one hand it's nice to get the odd ship I missed account wide, in the other I really would have liked to be able the get the odd cstore ship with the coupon.

^Granted, but apparently they can't get Microsoft or Sony to give up the lost revenue on those ship sales to allow the C-Store coupon.

Now the question is, will they allow discount coupons? Ie the 50% coupon from the new PC bundle.
I'm guessing no, but it would be nice.

This makes more bussiness sense than allowing people to claim a free C-Store Zen store ships as the pheonix ships dont really make them any money mostly being a free lockbox system, I'm surprised they didn't do this on the PC I guess somebody pointed this out after the fact meaning future events will most likely be like this on PC too.

Not likely. PC has the problem that some people have literally every Phoenix ship because they have been here from the beginning and never missed any ships. I don't know when consoles got the game, but I imagine they would not have every ship, nor would they be account wide if they could only get those from Phoenix boxes.

Honestly I think this is the best outcome console players could have gotten. Some of the event ships come with amazing stuff (the lukari dorito console, DOMINO console, cold hearted trait, timeline stabilizer) and giving them a chance to unlock that stuff for the whole account is a blessing.

There's at least 2 ships on console, the dorito and rinkydink carrier, that were never earnable so making this a legitimate way of getting them as account unlocks is a long time coming.

Some people have every single c-store ship too things like that never tend to get factored into free giveaway events otherwise they would never do them, all I'm saying is dont be shocked if the next PC event we get after this current one is a pheonix lock box ship like the consoles as end of the day the current event costs Cryptic money where as the Pheonix version doesn't but has the same result of getting a large chunk of people to play daily.

Does the free ship token actually lose them money though? When the token first arrived using a token locked out the option to buy a bundle if the ship was part of a triple pack.

The pushing of ships as content was never going to be a sustainable model so these tokens will work as a carrot to draw folk into the store that may otherwise ignore it, especially for getting a ship trait they'd otherwise not go for due to the class it was applied to such as the grav well trait on an escort.

Whats more interesting to me is that there's been chatter about making phoenix (and other gamblebox) ships account unlocks. If the token is how its going to be done then I'm curious to see how it'll get worked into the game for those who already bought a per character variant. I've a couple of the top end tokens but the per character thing has stopped me using them.

If we guess based on their past actions they don't tend to grandfather things so people that say have gotten pheonix/lockbox ships that were bound to the character would need to get the ship again to unlock it with the new account wide unlock I REALLY hope if they decide to make these type of ships account wide that they grandfather that in otherwise it will be so punishing for us older players lol

Follow-up question (unless I missed it above)... any idea how it will be handled once a player has unlocked all of those T6 ships?

I've been playing on console since the anniversary event following console launch, and currently have most of them unlocked by completing the corresponding event projects. Only ones I can think of I don't currently have are the Breen (carrier?) ship from the first winter event on console, and the Lukari non-event ship (seem to recall it was some kind of brief per-character promotional ship). While I have an alt that could make use of the Lukari ship, and wouldn't mind having others for Admiralty anyway,... what happens after that?

Most likely you will just start to stock up on tokens you could spend on ships they add to the pack at a later date.

Probably the same way as for players that own all the C-Store ships on PC - you got a token but nothing to spend it on. Soon I will own 2 ship tokens and 2 50 % discounts.. But since I buy basically every ship when it comes out, i'll never be able to use the token. Until such a time where I might stop playing for a while. That happened once before, maybe it will happen again.

Maybe it gives you leeway to skip an event you're not in the mood for, or don't have time for. Maybe when a new cool game is released.

More Cstore ships are going to continue to come out, as we have 2 new ones today, and if you do buy every Cstore ship as they come out, you could also have 2 free ship tokens as of today and get this pair free when they are no longer new, if you wanted to wait. If not, you likely will take a break from the game at some point and return later with some coupons for ships you didn't know were released.

Event ships are already freeish so it becomes really weird to ask someone to use a multi event token to later skip a single event.

It also costs Cryptic literally nothing to hand out coupons. This isn't some thing that has a production and transportation cost like a televison, it is a digital thing that is reproduced infinitely at virtually no cost after its initial design costs. They have also given away Cstore ships many times in the past.

The problem is assuming that someone would have bought said ship without the coupon, and then won't later buy something else. Remember these coupons don't work on new ships, only old ones, so if people haven't already bought it, why not? It isn't fair to assume they are going to buy every ship in the catalogue, nor it likely they are waiting to purchase it as it has been out for a while with many sales since any given ship has been released. So if they haven't bought it yet they probably aren't just about to, either.

In fact it is entirely possible these coupons make Cryptic money as it may get someone to try a ship they would never otherwise have given a chance. Now they like the ship and realize, "Gee, this console set looks nice. Maybe I'll buy the rest of the set."

what if I have all T6 phoenix box ships... can I pick up 2 of the T5 ships in the Phoneix Box instead? T5 Bug and T5 Voth (or is it Tolian)?

I have that same 'problem', having all the C-Store Ships. What I did when the Somerville Pack came out, I used the 50% Coupon on the Somerville, and held off on the Klingon mate. When that comes off being new, probably with this new Bundle, I will pick up the Klingon ship with the first free Token.

This new Bundle coming out today, I will buy with Zen, as it works out to 1,500 Zen for each and I get another 50% Coupon. The Somerville Bundle was not cost effective to buy as it was loaded with stuff I didn't need to drive the price up.

Today I will also get the next Free Ship Coupon as I have 1,750 Points already and will trade in another 14 of the Featured TFO Tokens, bringing me over the 2,100 top.

I do hope that if they ever give a free T-6 Phoenix Token on PC that you can downgrade it to two free T-5 Phoenix ships. I have all the T-6 and T-5 Event ships Account unlocked, but would get the Bulwark and JHAS instead.
