wow...if that's the drain with just 178, i may use this in combination with grabbity well 3 instead of tyken's - drain enemies dry AND keep them contained to ensure they actually DO get drained, plus added destruction from warp core breaches against unshielded targets

is that damage per second or a single burst, though?

It's a single burst... but it's important to read the text. If you, for example, fly in and drop GW3 on enemies the spore-infused anomalies trait will deal NO damage to them. What happens is when you use a science or intel ability your existing anomalies pulse the 5km aoe from the trait. So, you drop GW3 then trigger, say, science team... at that point the trait pulses the damage from the gravity well.

So, you either need to create a bunch of anomalies so that each trigger produces multiple pulses... or you just spam your science and intel abilities after grav well to create a lot of pulses in the same place. Doing so can deal a lot of damage, but its a different sort of playstyle for science.

The designs are inoffensive and have their own charm. But yeah… disappointing that we're back to KDF and Fed only. The only reason to play a ROM now is to align with KDF and wear the Klingon Honor Guard Uniform to mock the klingons.

Now we have a sci ship that use an ENG type ability..ENG were the best when it comes to power..Well not anymore..Why do I feel ENG's have been ignored completely? We have no proper ENG/TAC or ENG/SCI hybrids at all..

Having spent a long time looking at my Engle, it does indeed look mostly the same - flat saucer with two engines attached directly on the sides.

It's the same size and the same shape (there's one in one of the new patrols to gaze upon), and could certainly share elements the same as the Cardenias/Buran, Shepard/Gagarin, and the other Disco ships can.

But you are right, the roadmap says November for the Engle, so I guess we will have to wait a couple days to see.

    Not the Engle...

Today, we'll serve a Gravity Well with mushrooms, while the joint intel and science departments will offer some, dare I say, electrifying musical entertainment.

The awkward moment when a lead ship and UI artist writes better Star Trek material than the TRIBBLE writers who're paid millions.

    This was brilliantly written.

Also bought it with dilithium to zen. I think it actually looks really nice, the kitbashed variant. Science vessels are my fav ship class second only to science warbirds - and it looks like the wait for that and the Nova/Rhode Island will continue.

The console and ship trait should make a fun combo with eject warp plasma (LtC+) into a gravity well or with Coolant Ignition (LtC+) as they all scale with EPG. A reversed tractor beam repulsor should work too. Space science is always fun.

Well, have to admit I purchased this ship for one of my Sci characters and am actually not at all disappointed.

Firstly, whilst she's no DSC Constitution, I've seen worse designs; speaking from an entirely personal viewpoint, I certainly prefer the design of this ship over, say, the Venegence - a ship design I absolutely loathe.

Secondly, she's a nimble little minx. I prefer smaller, nimble, ships over stupidly big ones anyway and she doesn't disappoint here. With the Competetive Engine equipped she can zip around quite nicely. And to top it off, she has a built-in cloak. Wasn't expecting that (though probably should have really considering she's an Intel ship with the Intel abilities) , and came as a nice surprise!

And have to admit, I purchased this ship with 'Spore-based' shenanigans in mind. I own the Crossfield Science Spearhead and the Mirror Crossfield and therefore equipped their consoles on this ship. Have otherwise tried to focus on particle generation, with creating strong Gravity Wells (yes - have the 'Improved Gravity Well trait) in mind; trapping multiple enemy ships in a GWIII and then unleashing the spore-based damage abilities is good fun!

I can see myself sticking with this ship on the character using it - asthetics aside, she's a fun little ship!

Nice to know I am not the only one who dislikes the Vengeance class. :D

Hope it won't take too long to wait for this ship to be able to be acquired with the t6 coupon. o.o

I got the Somerville last night with the 50% off Coupon. Then used one of my 10 remaining FSMs to get the Fleet version. After this new 'Quicker Event' Event is over I will switch off to leveling these Ships.

I quite enjoy the look of both the Somerville and the BatIh and I'll grab them when I can. Gonna name them the USS Chakram and the IKS Vengabus, respectively.

I was looking over the Blog for the release of this. It would be fun if the Somerville or Hernandez offered an optional sensor pod below the saucer. An Oberth-esqe starship at endgame would add a bit of flavor. ;)

It would have been even cooler if you could have also mixed and matched it with the Scryler Intel Vessel. There is clearly a design lineage here, with the donut saucer. But I guess they either didn't think of it, or the Hernandez model was still too different to match up.

Some more info on the ships: https://www.arcgames.com/de/forums/star-trek-online/#/discussion/1251292/new-intel-science-vessel-summerville-and-batlh-and-infos-on-trait

That's with EPG 433, Drain Expertise 178, and Control Expertise 260.
EDIT: For comparison, my Gravity Well III with hese stats inflicts 1,870.9 per second.

Oh, now I want them even more!

Sounds like an excellent route you took. I wish Cryptic would just add another fsm to the bundle or make those keys sellable to then earn another fsm, I have no interest in using keys & losing all the time anymore. I haven't seen any in game yet so I'm keeping my eyes wide open.

Jeeze... lots of people who don't know how to pay attention.

It's not an Engle. Look at the Engle, now look at this ship, now look at the Engle now look at this ship. See? They are different. Yes, they share similar lines. Like the Walker and Shepard Class do. But they are clearly not the same ship.

The ship is based on one that appeared in the IDW Star Trek Discovery 2018 Annual - specifically the USS Somerville which is the ship that finds the original prototaxites stellaviatori spores that kick of Stamet's and Straal's work.

They've fleshed the ship out, and they've added it to the game. Oh yes, the 25th Century version is already in game, and can be seen on patrol missions. It looks like the C-Store version is going to include a DSC era skin - which I am loving for the retro look.

It's a nice tie in with what they are doing story wise, and who knows - we may even get an STO version of the original mission to retrieve the first P.stellaviatori Spores.

Of course its not an engle. The Engle Bundle comes in November.

But to creat a ship based on a comic book design , putting it in the game without even mentioning it in the patch notes and also (at least in germany) not even changing the description ingame (it has the Buran/Qoj description) is a new one

Discovery tie in novels and comics are canon so its exactly like if this ship appeared in the show.

True, but only from a legal standpoint. On a storytelling level, to the majority of the DSC TV show watchers it is still something even sillier looking than usual coming out of nowhere. Canon and continuity are not one and the same though people get sloppy with the terms.

Disney found that out the hard way when they wrote The Force Awakens in a way that depended entirely on the tie-in novels to give it context (such as it was, but that is a different discussion) and offended Star Wars fans who never read them and expected the movie to be the gamechanger and not just the aftermath of those unread books.

I am not saying the game should not draw from sources like that of course, there is always room for more and different ships, but it would be best to identify where these out-of-mainstream things come from in some way (and proper attribution is just good practice in general).

Funny, when I've run 'The Ninth Rule' since Thursday's Patch the Patrol is teaming with Somervilles as your allied ships.

First off, Kristen Beyer, head of the CBS Trek writers room, Executive Producer of Picard, and more, is the canon and continuity control, and editor of all tie in material, novels and comics. She also coordinates with Cryptic's writers here on STO.

The only standpoint that applies to whether something is canon or not is what the IP owner says, and the owner has said they are canon, so end of story.

Moving on. No novel was required for The Force Awakens whatsoever. Nor did anything Disney has done or plans to do with Star Wars offend this fan who has been a fan since 1977. As for anyone who was in some ludicrous way offended, I don't care and won't care.

In this case canon is irrelevant along with who wrote what or even who is in charge of what. The point is that as far as a TV show (or movie) is concerned, books and comics are outside media so things need to be written so as to not assume that everyone is familiar with the out-of-band material in order for it not seem like some random nonsense thrown in out of the blue.

As for the Star Wars example, it was just that, an example and whether you agree with the statement or not it isn't something I care to derail this thread over.

Not really, movie1 and movie2 would both be movies so they are in the same medium, and additionally most people going to see a sequel expect gaps here and there in movie2 they did not see movie1 first.

On the other hand, when they go to see a standalone movie they usually do not expect to have to read some (usually unadvertised in the movie hype. and even unavailable in some areas that may show the movie) book, comic, epic poem, or whatever else for the movie to make sense, they expect it to be reasonably self contained.

It's been a while since I spilled money on this game, but I saw... possibilities here. And I have not been disappointed.

USS Panther Modern uses the Sommerville hulls, but the Hernandez nacelles, which leaves her looking like a space muscle car, with way more horsepower than any sane driver could need. And the console proved quite handy in those low-level missions (I, of course, started a new character to be her captain, so I could get a feel for her as she progressed). Overall, I can't say I'm disappointed with her performance in the least. (Then again, I'm the one who managed to pull my weight in an STF while flying a T5 Risian luxury liner, so maybe I'm not the performance-obsessed person you want to talk to. )
