The bright side is that the Phoenix upgrades are a much better deal than using Superior tech upgrades. When you figure in the extra upgrades from rare or better Phoenix tokens you get 4,300 dil worth of Superior upgrades for only 2,500 - 3,000 dil. Plus you don't have to spend the credits to buy or credits + mats + time to craft them.
