Charged Particle Burst just feels like it does nothing honestly.
It has multiple problems. First of all is range(5km radius) is too small. So to get the most out of it you want to group up your targets with a gravity well. But gravity well ignores shields, so doesn't synergise with it.
Range is also a problem if you wanted to use it for its listed purpose. Cloak detection is only useful in PVP, but people move fast in pvp, so the chances of hitting them with a ChPB while they are in range is low. If you want to use an active ability to detect cloaked ships then tractor beam repulsors has the same range, and because it's a duration ability rather then an instant cast you have a larger window in which to catch a ship in range. If your really serious about spotting cloaked ships you won't use either ability though. Instead you will boost you passive detection and spot cloaked ships from outside 10km with 100% uptime.
Secondly it's a drain expertise ability, so to get the most out of it you would put it on a drain build, but a good drain build will offline your enemies shields, during which time they won't take shield damage any way,
The one good use for CPB is to proc secondary deflector damage. But there is no synergy at all between a shield ignoring DoT and a shield stripping ability, it just happens to be an AoE that works with deteriorating secondary deflector.
So maybe Charged Particle Burst should be changed to last behind a patch of charged particles that ships can fly through and have their shields stripped? That might at least help someowhat? @crypticspartan#0627 , are you listening?
So, one way Cryptic "fixes" bad powers is by inventing new Starship Mastery Traits. And since we're talking about the Nova Class here, and don't want to go off-topic, here is another trait idea for a Tier 6 Nova.
Starship Mastery Trait - Nucleogenic Particle Burst
When activating Charged Particle Burst, you leave behind a cloud of nucleogenic particles. The cloud drains shield strength and shield energy from enemies within the cloud, and reveals cloaked enemies. The cloud lasts for up to 15 seconds.

Making it persist is a good idea, but I think it needs to move with the ship. If it leaves behind the patch then it competes with gravity well, which also brakes cloak, can be much bigger, lasts longer and dose more valuable hull damage instead of shield.
If the cloud was continuously emitted from the ship and moved with you, then it wold have something to distinguish itself.
I also think it would make a better doff power then starship trait. I dont think its powerful enough to warrant a trait slot that has better options.
Edit- I thought about this some more. It could be worth a starship trait slot if each emission triggered the secondary deflector. I don't think cryptic would have it work that way, I think it would only trigger the SD on the first use, but if it could trigger it multiple times, I quite sure I would want that trait.

It seems to me that Cryptic hasn't done any new DOFF power mods in a while, but I could be wrong.
But an interesting thought, having it constantly emitted by the ship itself, rather than leaving behind a patch.
Starship Mastery Trait - Charged Particle Field
When activating Charged Particle Burst, the initial effect is reduced to 1/4, but you emit a new burst every second for the next 10 seconds.

14 seconds into the trailer introducing Rekha Sharma and Jason Isaacs, there is a shot of a Section 31 ship which (aesthetically at least) could very conceivably provide a 2410 Nova, assuming they follow the pattern of the Shepherd/Gagarin and Cardenas/Buran.

Gah, sorry.
I've just rewatched and realised that it's the Buran - I hadn't spotted the two lower nacelles before.
Quick question. Outside of ST Armada, have the Nova class been shown in any other media? I can't even recall seeing it in any of the shows or movies. I guess it probably appeared in the comics or books at least.

It was the main focus of a Voyager 2-parter "Equinox", as the USS Equinox was a Nova, the USS Rhode Island was depicted as modified Nova as well.
I have said to myself i would never buy another federation ship again.
Not because i hate the game or anything but i currently have...
All the command battlecruisers
Pathfinder
T6 Nebula
T6 Soverign
Caitian Shikaris Escort
Paladin Temporal Battlecruiser (T6)
Nautilus Temporal Science Vessel (T6)
Sagittarius Temporal Cruiser (T6)
Theseus Temporal Escort (T6)
Eternal Temporal Multi-Mission Science Vessel
Chronos Temporal Dreadnought Cruiser
Ouroboros Temporal Raider
And i currently dont use any of them on a character.
That being said i since i moved homes i have had the Equinox Eaglemoss model sat on my bookshelf aside my desk and when i have been waiting for loading screens instlations or other things, i have found myself staring at the model and the ship is just perfect, it looks so amazing in design and really seems like a underdog ship , and with the new T6 scaling i want to try it out but i have decided i will only do so in a T6 Nova.

I don't know if the game forgot the ship, but I did not.
Did we have any good ideas what ships it could be paired with? If it's a Scout Vessel, maybe it could be paired with a Raider? There are at least four Bird of Preys that have no Tier 6 upgrade available. The Hegh'ta, and the Ning'tao Bird-of-Prey might be my favorites here.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Of course, there is a "danger" that the new Picard show and the next season of Discover will introduce plenty of new ships that also need to be integrated into STO. Might be tough to find a spot to get less current ships in.
But there is also a "chance" that the new Picard show reactivates some old models? Maybe we get to see a Nova in the background or something.

I'm in the camp that thinks the Nova would be a great choice for a scout ship, and I think optimally they would release Klingon and Romulan (and in a perfect world Jem'hadar) scout ships to go with it. I could see a BoP variant being repurposed into a scout, as well as a new variant of the T'varo (something with a more Reman look to it maybe).
it wouldn't be the first time they've added extra to a ship type without changing it in the process of a T6 upgrade - the T6 guramba got a hangar, which the T5 version never had

was chatting with fleet mates today and realized that there was a little ship I really wanted to see updated and t6'd, my "nova" of the STO line-up and it would make a good pairing for a fed/kdf bundle with a t6 nova.... the fugly lil k'tanco dunno why but I like that lil bug. Could do w/o the fins on the bottom tho
