Thoughts on the Free T6 Ship Token

Today I finished the Free T6 Ship Token event – 3000/3000 vouchers and hit the now active claim button. The Token transferred straight away to my inventory. I had a quick read of the item description – as the mods have said (repeatedly) there is NO expiry date on it, NO use by date. You can freely claim the Token and stick it in your toon’s bank and leave it there for a few months before using it 
In terms of using it – yes, there are some restrictions; Firstly (and this is blindingly obvious) you can only use it to purchase a Tier 6 ship. You cannot redeem it against any of the T1-5 ships. I know people have asked about this and questioned this. But the clue to what the Token is for is in its name; “Free T6 Ship Token,” so this is not a problem. Secondly, yes there are some restrictions on what you can redeem the Token against, but those restrictions are trivial. Any ships listed in the “New” item tab of the C-Store are not available, so the Token cannot be redeemed to get the recently released Buran Class. But that’s not actually an issue. At some point the Buran and any other ships are going to move out of the “New” tab (because they won’t be new anymore) and become redeemable. You’ll just have to be patient if that’s what you intend to use the Token on. Thirdly, you cannot use the Token as part payment against any of the ship packs – this Token is for use to buy a single T6 ship.
Redeeming the Token is easy. A new menu option pops up, with selectable options, when you click on any of the available T6 ships – giving you the option to either redeem your Token to get the ship, or purchase it using Zen. The choice, as they say, is yours.
I picked the ship I wanted, used the Token to purchase it – and hey presto the ship was mine. I logged into one of my other toons and YES the Mods were telling the truth when they said that the ship would indeed be account-unlocked – and usable by any new toon after finishing the tutorial.
In terms of getting the Token; I did the event on each day. I hit all but one of the bonus days. I did not use the buyout option (because then it’s NOT free, just cheaper).
I didn’t mind doing any of the events, either for the event reward or for the vouchers to get the ship token. It wasn’t the waste of time, as some of the neighsayers ranted on about. It wasn’t a horrible grind. It doesn’t in any way devalue the ship you use the Token on, because this was not about getting an event ship – this was about having an almost free choice on the available in game T6 ships. It was what it was; something you had to work for to get. I think the whole thing was totally worth it
I got a free T6 ship unlocked across my account that I will be able to use until the sun sets on this game (may it never). For me, it was totally worth it.

PS: I know some peeps are going to have different feelings regarding all this. That's fine. But this isn't a rant thread *shock* - I have something nice to say to the Mods/Devs. And I don't have to defend that

People ask how long have I been playing STO - well the answer is simple: I have been here since the beginning. I just haven't always had a lot to say.

I already have all Tier 6 ships, to the token isn't so useful to me yet at least, and I haven't tried how it works.
But its nice to have the option for another time. Also, it is not like these events you needed to do to gain the coupons did not also reward the usual event rewards, and who can't use some extra marks and dilithium?
I used it on the JH Heavy Raider - it was quite easy to use, it is selected by default but you can choose to pay with it or not through a two option drop down menu
As stated, the 3000 coupon points are essentially gained as a side-effect of things you would be doing anyway, so heck knows where the whole 'it's not worth doing' group are coming from.
I'm not quite finished mine yet, little ways away but I look forward to picking up the Andorian Chimesh/Lethean Nemosin when I'm done (haven't quite decided yet whether the FED or KDF captains are more deserving of a windfall).
Thanks Cryptic, this is a nice way to add a little extra incentive to playing various types of content, and also to encourage players to explore the ship options available to them!

There is still one more Featured TFO coming by the Fall where you can get more T6 Progress Coupons.

And if they have 2 x double progress weekends you should be able to earn 800 + 650 = 1450 points if you do the event every day for 3 weeks.
If that isn't quite enough it might be worth buying the C-store pack that includes progress tokens and an ultimate upgrade token.

A moot question, because it's been answered already by the Dev's, Mods - and at the beginning of this thread: There is (currently) NO expiry date on the Token. It is safe for you to stick it in your toon bank until the end of time, with the caveat that may change in the future. You are under no obligation to redeem it the second you claim it. Unless stated by a Dev or Mod - your Token is safe, and can be kept for as long as you want it.
If you make the choice not to claim it - that's up to you
Remember: Their is still one more event to take place this year. We are only on the second one. So It is still possible to get your Free T6 Ship Token if you hit it every day this time and next. As I said in my OP; I hit every day and only missed one bonus day and still hit 3000/3000 towards the end of the second run
If they want this to be the model going forward - OK - it seems to work. When you gain the prize no more for you.

This is not the case for me. I own the Tactical pilot escort, but I'm unable to buy the 3 pack of Federation escorts.

Oh, they did remove the restriction, but not for all packs, I think it was mostly for the big Mega Bundles, but I may be wrong…

Not that important to me, I did use the coupon on Hestia Advanced Escort (...was it?), that ship is not a part of any pack...

I advise to bank the coupon, because I had 2950/3000 during this weekend. I was supposed to get 100 from the TFO but got 50 (3000/3000).
So I suppose we can't pass 3000.

It's exactly the ship I got with the ticket, and I am very happy about it.

That's odd because I still get more tokens. Are you sure you not hit the 3000/3000 limit?
Seems that a lot of us got the Hestia, Good!, its a nice ship.. and about the tokes, yes, you keep getting them, but does not register anymore, so you cannot see how much you have or anything once you are done.

Yes, i hope they do, i liked the system a lot, its practical and transparent for the end user..
For those that were paying attention when this started: This whole thing has been a trial run of a system that may become a permanent fixture of the game. So no, you were never going to be able to continue to gain more tokens. The caveat was clear: it was just for one token - one ship only.
IF, and that "if" is important, this turns out to be a viable thing for the community and the game, then it will be something they run again. But it was never intended to run continuously.
The Token can be redeemed for ONE T6 ship only, it cannot be used as part payment for a pack. The Devs were very clear on that. They were also clear on the other restrictions, which is why I would advise the following: once you get the Token, read the info on it, look at the original Dev post, and check the forum.
My intention here was to create a thread that a: showed that the Dev gave us exactly what they said they were giving us, b: that within the restrictions they listed, the Token worked and c: say a massive THANK YOU.
Because a free T6 ship is an awesome thing.
