T6 Coupon for Console?

wmthoram#7588 wmthoram Member Posts: 45 Arc User
First off I'll go ahead and apologize if other people have already brought up this topic. But is console going to get the coupon earning ability that is supposed to come with Riposte or is it only for the PC master race?

It appears that the T6 ship coupon is PC only.

Here is the release announcement for the console version of the Event. If you compare it directly with the initial announcement for the PC event, you can see that the console announcement omits the part about the T6 ship coupon.

It appears that it's not active for consoles.

Figures they have to pander to the PC players. Oh well, the game has been slowly dying on console anyway. I have no doubt when more console players realize that they're being overlooked like bloody 2nd class citizens. I've watched all the big name fleets and Armada's slowly fall apart over the years. I don't even play as much as I used to. I get on, do my admiralties and then get off.

I don't know why the decision was made, but my guess would be that it has something to do with the way ships are purchased on the console. I haven't played the console version, so I don't know if ships are purchased with Microsoft Points or with Zen as they are on the PC. Being that Zen is Perfect Worlds own currency as opposed to something like Microsoft Points that might play a factor into the decision.

It's purely a guess on my part.. I only play this game on PC.

Zen like PC. There just isn't as many people playing the console version anymore. Partly due to stupid decisions like this one to exclude console from getting something only privileged PC players get. I'm not usually one to get into the whole PC vs Console fight, because I used to be a PC gamer. But let's face it these days with more people building their own Pc's, companies like perfect world have to attract more of those types than people who just buy a console from a store. Because consoles are a lot cheaper than they used to be, where as even the cheapest PC build can run you around $500+.

To make matters worse for console gamers. I actually heard a rumor that perfect world was going to be coming up with a way to make turning large amounts of dilithium into Zen, which is how poor people like myself afford Zen store ships. They would rather try and force console players to spend actual money, which most console players just can't afford it. Studies show a majority of console gamers are poverty stricken. Somewhere around 27 ish % of console gamers don't even have a live subscription. I know I don't, if it wasn't for my cousin game sharing with me I wouldn't have Xbox gold, in which case I wouldn't even be able to play Star Trek Online.

Maybe console players will get them when Rise of Discovery hits, or at some point in the future

Unless I am in error. I thought Ambassador Kael addressed this on the live stream last night. If I recall, he said something to the effect that the T6 coupons are a test on PC to see how well it goes over and if the results are positive it might then rollover to console. I have heard some rumblings that the coupon system might not even last on PC, that it might be a one off thing. Console content is also a few months behind any PC release, so console players may get this feature at a later date. Just not sure I see a reason to bet getting upset over this yet.

This was indeed addressed by Kael in last night's livestream. The T6 ship coupon has not been approved for porting over to console as yet. There are apparently some issues there. Cryptic is discussing some other options for console, though. The coupon may or may not come at a later date, though.

I think you've missed something out. You can already turn Dil into Zen, and Cryptic are not going to take away this facility on any platform. It's the main driver of the game's economy.

As for console players being poverty stricken.....that's a bit far-stretched. I'd love to read this study, as I can't find one on the net, including on Google Scholar.

Figures they have to pander to the PC players. Oh well, the game has been slowly dying on console anyway. Again, there's no proof the game on the console is dying. It has about a quarter of the PC's level of population across two platform according to Cryptic's figures, and I will tell you this, as a player of the PC (9 years approx) and Xbox versions (1 and a half years), Console players get a far-easier ride that PC does. I'll give it that fixes are slower, but we already know that it's cost exercise for each patch on Consoles, but the Dil to Zen ratio favours F2P players massively (190-1 on Console and 340-1 on PC). I also always see plenty of people in-game, but I also concede that Console players are quite picky when it comes to games; and as for the requirement for Live, I highly doubt that is Cryptic's fault, and most likely a requirement to publish the game on the platform.

Cryptic would absolutely love for players to spend, after all they have a business to run, but consider that they give away 3 T6 ships during events, 13 Fleet Ship Modules per character (That's up to 13 Fleet T6 Ships per character), have at least 1 weeks worth of Zen Store giveaways, 1 Zen Store T5 ships per character, and giving that equipment is easily, and I mean extremely easy to acquire, why oh why do you think Cryptic are trying to force anyone to pay up. Give them some credit and splash out on something to show your appreciation to the Dev's here. You're not forced to pay for content (WoW, SWBF2 cough cough) after buying the game....which again, this is free (about 20GB on Console).

My old man side is about to come out. I remember when I was a kid we played outside, $1.25 at the movies would get you a ticket, drink, and popcorn. That said nothing good ever came from complaining about something to anyone. Not saying they will ban you or anything, the most they'll probably do is remove the post. In the future I wouldn't waste time complaining.

Maybe the info about it not being available on consoles "yet" should have been included somewhere here on the forums (such as the announcement thread as an addendum) instead of assuming people tune into the a livestream or relying on others to collate the info that is given there into a forum post.

I have to agree, their tendency to just give information in the live streams gets annoying.

Our community manager does not do a very good job disseminating information to the player base, and a lot of what we do get is full of bad links and type-o's.

PS+ isn't required for sto on PS4 so needing gold for the xbone is down to microsoft, I seem to recall them getting minor flak for saying "free" games but requiring a paid sub to play them.

Console version has a few good points such as the option to auto fire abilities although new items often lack that option and the games ability to decide when to trigger them can end up with you limping about in red alert status for over a minute after combat has actually ended. Personally I find escorts actually fun to fly on console with a controller whereas on PC I avoid them like the proverbial levodian flu

It lacks a ton of basic qol things that should have been included in the port, such as disabling auto hails, options to try and reduce the visual spam which can start to chug the console, not having jump and interact on the same key or the buttons to control the minigames.

More care and polish and I might have been tempted into dropping a few quid on zen for it but with the level of clunk I've said decided its not worth it. General direction of the game towards event based play is just reinforcing that alongside other things such as event ships being dumped straight into the phoenix gamble system that hint about the lack of care over towards console playerbase.

Don't get me started on the Phoenix Prize Packs. I bought 200 and never got an epic token. Only 1 UR and most of the others were blue or green.

I can get that people really want that Epic Token, too, but no one can consider the Phoenix Prize Packs unfair, because at the minimum, you get a Phoenix Upgrade out of it that has the same (worst case) or better Dilithium/Tech Point ratio then the Upgrade Tokens. And you will have to upgrade your gear eventually!

I'd argue the value you get from opening lockboxes or promotion boxes is typically lower.
